Between 1999-2010 tons of MMOs came out. It was happening so fast some of the lower quality MMOs would just get shut down after 2-4 years.
Around 2012-14 MMOs just stopped coming out, meaning that there's just nothing to kill off what's old. That's why FFXIV ARR, which is now 10-fucking-years-old is still considered the "new kid".
It was fun and has a lot of customization, but it's kind of dated and has a lot of DLC/expansions/microtransactions from over the years, can't imagine the playerbase is strong
Personally my favorite out of all the super hero MMOs.
If you do end up playing, you can use the "Style" menu to change/lock the way equipment on your character looks
I remember being really excited for it and struggling to play the open beta on PS3. I had more fun creating characters than I did actually playing. I wish I had friends who played it back then.
I still have the collector's PC edition lying around somewhere.
i just love how much freedom that game had. i was never satisfied with any other mmos after that. you could fly around all over the map from the first levels, and you could easily transform your character into anyone you want at anytime. which made my inner weeb very happy.
i really wish a proper studio was in charge, and that it also had a huge playerbase. it had so much potential
I thought the three different traversal styles were really cool. I doubt that was a new concept since City of Heroes probably had it before DCUO, but I had always wanted to play City of Heroes and never got the opportunity. Between missing that and being a burgeoning DC fan I was pretty happy with this game. I just wish I had stuck with it for any considerable time.
Play COH homecoming. It has a decent number of players and they're improving the game from where things left off.
No cost, and it's liberating that services you normally would have to pay for (changing name, server transfers) are entirely free.
Takes like 5 minutes to install, no reason to try it now.
I'm very hesitant to try and play an MMO. My personal life makes my play sessions too sporadic to make real progress or be a reliable partner to other people. Believe me, I'd be playing Everquest or FFXI if I could make MMOs work. Maybe sometime I'll download it just to experience even five minutes of The Game That Got Away, at least.
You can play CoH in your own time, there's no meta, the players are mostly old timers that are playing their 20th different character. I started playing last year, made about 15 characters, about 6 max level, just go and play a bit whenever I feel the urge. You can pretty much just start the game and find parties or just play solo.

If your addition issues with MMOs yea I guess I'd stay away. The good news is at least homecoming has no FOMO and the community isn't going anywhere (considering the lack of superhero games and mmos), so if you log off there is 0 guilt if you don't log back in for 3 years.

Really well made Diablo clone, but while it was free to play, spending money was a must if you wanted more inventory (which was crucial with absurd amount of loot you got in the game)
A Diablo-clone MMO made by passionate Marvel fans and written by actual comic book writers. It was the ideal Marvel game and it was shut down because the new CEO of the devs went full retard and botched the long awaited console release.
>download this >play Punisher >gun down Green Goblin in the tutorial >plopped down in the actual game world >shitty laptop almost croaks and dies
Kinda regret missing this one
I think I clocked in a couple thousand hours into this. As clunky as that game was it had so many cool ideas.
God I wish Ultimate Alliance 3 wasn't this weird kiddy beat em up. Super Heroes are a really cool concept for a top down ARPG. Way more exciting than fight skeletons and zombies for the billionth time anyway.
I liked it early on, after omega update (IE console release) it turned to complete shit. They stripped out all of the free rewards from the mini instances, splinters took ages to get, no more daily rewards, heroes got easier to get but harder to upgrade, just... Frustrating, super frustrating.
>get rid of Brevik >game slowly becomes better and better >game is at it's peak >suddenly omega >ruins everything >gazillion announces they are shutting down the game due differences with Disney >Disney actually plugs the plug like 2 months before the date
The last ~2 years were so fucking bad.
I got really into it and played it for a month straight 6 years ago. If you can get past the age and jankiness, it's really a great superhero game. Not CoH level, but if you're into DC the universe is pretty well represented here.
It's okay, they give away all of the powers pretty regularly now, but it's dying, and they're not putting in new content at anything close to a reasonable pace.
I'd recommend one of the city of heroes/villains custom servers, but if you really love DC, absolutely, dc universe has a ton of content, you're just not gonna be able to play most of it because it requires parties and people don't do anything but the most recent content or PVP.
champions online is novel, but also getting close to shutdown.
Me and my cousins played the shit out of this a long time ago and still the only MMO I ever played. Did the raids to get all the best gear and I was still and absolutely terrible Tank. Legion of Doom had better headquarters than the Justice League.
Was really good, shouldn’t have died down
it was alright. that's my official Ganker review
Wish I played it more. Always got overshadowed by WoW for me.
10 years ago would be good, now is a cesspool of multiple currencies that do fuckall and pay to win up the ass
Can you elaborate?
Play the free shit then if you get to the end and have friends buy a month to do all the raids and shit then drop.
I really enjoyed it at times
This as well
i remember being a little kid and playing it when it came out. was fun. i even skipped school to play it.
>A little kid 10 years ago
You're still too young for here
im 25 now lol
Exactly.
This shit is still alive? I used to play it on PS3, but never got too much into it

I miss this game like you wouldn't believe. I can't believe they just pulled the plug and now it's gone.

what's brevik doing these days?

Best Green Lantern game at least.
Remember the trailer being really cool when I was younger. Here:
I would play it if I could make a stretchy character.

Can villains and heroes play with each other
did mobile games killed MMOs?
