Run a low level game with no freakshit in like OD&D or savage worlds or maybe Ironsworn and everyonce and while run a quick one shot with the system your developing as a test night and work out the bugs. Maybe it is poopy but it's an opportunity to learn and grow and try new things. You can do it.
It was in one of the older printings of the AD&D2e PHB. Not the black bordered one (which had honestly pretty mid art) with the Barbarian guy shouting a door open, but the one with the guy on a horse on the cover.
Imagine going back to 1992. You play DnD with your bros from school. Everyone everyone shows up on time week by week and clearly communicates despite being introverts with landline phones. You don't have the entire monster manual memorized and there's still a sense of wonder and exploration. There's no streaming porn so some art of a cute adventuress with some cleavage still sets your imagination on fire. There's no cell phones so the players are a captive audience, no ringtones breaking the tension or people needing to be brought up to speed after staring at Instagram.
tl;dr: Don't bother. Trying to recreate the good old days will break your fucking heart.
I suppose to be fair it's a nice creative exercise if nothing else. I keep around some old books for nostalgia reading and type campaign ideas/background into a Google doc when work is quiet.
They game you make, anon.
I believe in you.
I really needed this bc I’m working on a system right now and I feel it’s pretty poopy

Design by subtraction anon. Make it simple. Or have cards. Players love cards.
OD&D
Dungeons & Dragons
lol at those smug dipshits happy they killed this dragon fetus
I imagine even small dragons would be able to cause trouble on their own.

l'm almost sure the art you posted is just old art for D&D

Yep, stared at it a million times as a kid. Loved my book and miss it.

the first campaign i played the gm read out the secret door location under the encounter boxed text on two separate locations
i announced i'd be running the next game
I know you're right and it kind of makes me want to just drop the hobby, but it's also kind of all I have left.

>mfw was born in 1991
GOD IF ONLY I COULD HAVE BEEN BORN 10 OR 20 YEARS EARLIER
IT COULD HAVE BEEN SO FUN
I want to go back
HackMaster.
I second this Hackmaster 5th ed really focuses on the low power/relatively low magic end of things.
Symbaroum. It's fucking perfect
No.
I've played a few games of cribbage thatve done it.
Can confirm. Skunked the fucker.
OD&D, Basic D&D or Advanced D&D
