>follows the movie
You're fighting flamethrower dudes and flying mechs in the first level alone, and the fist is just for if you're out of ammo or farming more ammo. You spend like 90% of the game shooting people with various different guns, lol.
Okay thinking about it, that was a nonsense thing to say. Other than going to the chemical plant and ending the Joker on the clocktower, Sunsoft just kinda went apeshit.
Also the Batarangs are the best weapon, they infinitely pierce and do damage like every tic it touches an enemy.

It does have a "licensed game after the fact" vibe
I gotta play the racing stages of the Sega CD Batman Returns, looks likes so much fun
Final Fight Batman is a fantastic console beat em up but it's a Silver medal to Contra Batman. Nothing to me ashamed though, it's a tech marvel while also being a pretty good love letter to Batman TAS.
Burton's Batman didn't seem opposed to killing people. Even the first movie, Batman knocks one of The Jokers goons into a giant bell and throws him down a bell tower to his death. There weren't too many fight scenes in Batman Returns. But I feel like the video posted above was the scene that made Konami want to make a Batman Returns beat em up. I do feel like the game captures the tone of the movie really well.
>Iirc spiderman and Godzilla were also in this game.
Also Arnold who slowly becomes Hulk as you damage him, and then his Hulk skin explodes and he becomes The Terminator. Nutty shit.
Sega published games for some of those characters around the same time so they probably had rights to use them for a while. It's like how Spider-Man was in Tony Hawk 2 'cuz the same devs had his rights from making that PS1 Spider-Man game. I'm guessing modern comic companies (Hollywood owned) probably wouldn't let that fly today, iirc it was even a pain to get Disney to allow Marvel vs Capcom 3 to happen despite the Capcom/Marvel games being legendary and beloved for so long.
They did ultimately have to change the sprites in reissued releases though.
no one really gave a shit back then, video games were garbage toys for kids that weren't expected to be taken seriously or to be noticed by copyright law or anyone who cared.
Well, Revenge of Shinobi came out the same year Tim Burton’s Batman had been a massive hit with a crapload of tie-in merch, so I can see why WB would be protective over the IP.
I think you’re generally right when it came to Japanese only releases though. They got away with that sort of thing a lot.
Batman Returns on Sega CD has fun driving segments.
It’s not the best, cuz none of them are but the driving levels! You should try it.
Also, the NES, SNES, and Sega Genesis Batman games (from previous posts) are pretty good but you’re getting different gameplay whether platformer levels, beat ‘em up, etc. so you gotta try them all to see if you like that particular flavor.
Batman (1989) (Arcade)
Batman Returns (SNES version)
Batman Forever The Arcade Game (Arcade, Saturn, PS1 & PC)
Batman Begins (PS2, Gamecube & Xbox)
These games are the very best retro Batman games.
These were one of the good games to pick up back then. The only ones I didn't enjoy were some of the genesis ones for these. Surprised those are usually good
Nes,snes and ps1 had good ones but they're all way too expensive now since they don't release that many games anymore
Absolutely. One of the funniest and dumbest games ever. It was going to be much bigger and then got scaled way back and it's super obvious. On top of that every design decision in the game is baffling. I love it. I replay the game every so often for a good chuckle.
[...]
But I should also mention that it's charming because you can tell how ambitious it was. That's why I like it so much. It's like Sonic '06 for Batman. Solid ideas, but executed so horribly that it's just kind of shocking how the game even works.
>The game features various endings depending on how the last few sections of the game are played. To get the "good" ending, Batman must disarm a signal device before facing Ra's. This is never made clear to the player beforehand, however, and as such the ending most players will get is one of the 3 "bad" endings which consists of Batman defeating Ra's who then sets off the bombs he has set up around the globe, ultimately resulting in his success. This initially caused confusion among gamers and critics as to why "beating" the game essentially had Batman failing to prevent the death of 1/3 of the world's population.
Kek. It’s wild to me that a Z list Jap developer like Kemco of all companies got the Batman license.

He does the same thing in the latest Batman movie. People kept praising that movie for being a "realistic" take on Batman while I kept autistically sperging about him tanking bullets like Robocop and the retort was always, "the batsuit is really good armor" lmao okay cool tank armor bro. Even if it's magically invincible armor I'm sure getting shot with tommy guns is still gonna knock you around and hurt like a motherfucker.
But we all know the only people who sperg about licensed games are weeaboos who think Japanese gaming devs are gods for coming up with rip offs of Western cartoons like Mario and Donkey Kong

I don't think that. I think the games are shit because it's stupid to make a game out of a movie, and also because the games are shit.

It was still ok back then. They didn't use it as wack political propaganda yet
I was always curious to play this 'cuz it looks like "what if we put Mortal Kombat style gameplay into an action platformer" and to think they did it before MK Mythologies: Sub Zero.
Never played it tho 'cuz you're the only person I've ever heard say it's actually good, people always say it's bad and that the controls are confusing.
>But Batman was increasingly portrayed as more dark.
Yeah until he wasn't with the Schumacher flicks, causing them to double down on the darkness with TDK. And as much as I like TDK, I gotta say I'm a little underwhelmed with the Matt Reeves Batman basically taking the same approach just in a slightly different way. The DCEU overall was not great, but I am a little sad we didn't get any solo Batfleck because at the very least, those movies were willing to have more "comic looking" stuff and not have to go with a gritty serial killer/terrorist reimagining
Not sure if it's true, it doesn't make a lot of sense, but could have swore there was an article saying that Michael Keaton was going to play Batman again
i didn't take a count, but there were a lot of hot people. it wasn't at a venue that serves food and it was on a sunday night so only the real ones were there
>have you gotten into clowncore at all?
Well, idk what that is, but I had a brief Juggalo phase in my adolescent years

This game is hard, not quite Hard Corps hard though
I've been to a couple ICP concerts before and they're pretty fun, as more of a rock/metal fan they definitely fill the sort of niche of like an Alice Cooper or GWAR but for rap shit.
I don't think I could stomach a gathering even back then though, camping out and multiple day long festivals aren't my thing at all.
>This game is hard, not quite Hard Corps hard though
As much as I like The Adventures of Batman & Robin for the Genesis/ MD has a quirky gameplay style to it, that feels like a cross between a run and gun, with a vertical space ship shooter and some beat 'em up elements to it. You can still punch and kick enemies when they are in close range. But as a 'run and gun' the game really encourages you to use the charge meter to shoot down multiple enemies at once. Also, the game is reliant on the weapon upgrade system. The game discourages you from button mashing the fire button. As for a game based on the animated Batman & Robin series, I don;t think it uses the license as well as it could have. Konami's Adventure of Batman and Robin game does a better job capturing the look and music of the cartoon series. But I still like the Genesis game, and the soundtrack is bonkers, and very un-Batman like.
Well yeah it's not literally a run n gun, just similar to one which is often surprising to people cause I think you just expect it to be more of a beat em up. It's actually pretty unique in how it plays, and there is a certain flow you have to get used to. You can't play it like a run n gun, and you can't play it like a beat em up. It has its own thing.

It seems like the The Adventures of Batman & Robin was designed to be rapid-fire proof, as in game controllers with turbo buttons won't help that much because the game is designed to force you to use the charge meter to do maximum damage.
>ICP merch >didn't sell until it went on clearance
The best part about ICP is you don't need to put effort into making fun of them, the jokes just write themselves.
I never realized Batman's armored look began with the Burton movies. As a kid I just never noticed.
Hell I didn't even really notice he was all black vs. the black and grey of the cartoon or the blue and grey of the comics, somehow it all just blurred together as "Batman" to me and I didn't notice differences
>I never realized Batman's armored look began with the Burton movies. As a kid I just never noticed.
The Burton movies (and the first Schumacher Batman) at least attempted to streamline the body armor and make it look like muscle, the Nolan movies (and now The Batman) don't even try and just are like "Yeah, bulky body armor", no imagination or style.
the strangest thing is, even the animated movies have the inclusion of Bruce Wayne is his bedroom being scarred and torn up, meaning even with all his skill and armour he still gets fucked up but you just have to headcanon for live action that he has to act like hes not in constant pain and recovery when in public
>the Nolan movies (and now The Batman) don't even try and just are like "Yeah, bulky body armor", no imagination or style.
this isn't fair to begins. he is very much intended to have a bulky monstrous look which the suit reflects.
The Batman 1989 suit was made to look like muscle, the Batman Returns suit was made to look like an art deco statue. There still needs to be a Batman film where he just wears spandex. At least the Phantom movie had the balls to just have a buff guy in tights running around
Sunsoft wins just because they didnt try to do anything like the comics and just gave him a laser gun instead
That's Return of the Joker, the first Batman game follows the movie.
They still gave him a rocket pistol though.
>follows the movie

They all suck is the truth
There was this funky Batman adventure game released a long time ago. Wasn't a "great" game by any means, but definitely interesting.
That looks cool. I'll check it out.

The best retro Batman game has to be Batman Returns SNES with its Final Fight-style gameplay.
Final Fight: Batman Edition
In all fairness, that's how Batman acted in Batman Returns. He was basically walking down streets and kicking the shit out of thugs.
accurate enough to the source material.
Wow he exploded that big guy. That movie was weird.

Revenge of the Shinobi. It has better gameplay than anything posted in here so far.
Why were nip game devs like this? It’s not like copyright and trademark laws didn’t exist in Japan in the 80s/90s. It’s a first world country.
Iirc spiderman and Godzilla were also in this game.

You make just enough changes so it's not identical then you can argue that it's an homage which would be protected under law.

Multiverse with MvC
Batman (NES)
Return of the Joker (NES)

No, it wasnt, it was bad.
I honestly lost track of those movies, but your wrote a great post.
So long as the script is very very good; engrossing, we're straight.
But on the other hand, the oversaturation of content.. I myself don't get it.
the Arkham series is actually retro, with all its dark deco and such 😉
I love Harley Quinn for being hot
