I really meant minimum... For me it's 30 minutes for a new game and 15 minutes for games I already played. If I'm not immersed after that I either switch game or do something else.

Whats the minimum amount of time you put into a game before dropping it ?

i try to finish every one of them, even days or months later, Persona 4, The Silver Case and Danganronpa 2 took like 4 hours in for them to become enjoyable

It's both. Imagine if people judged entire movies based on the opening scene or if they judged entire albums based on the first song. If I played a 20+ hour game for less than 2 hours then I would rather pretend I didn't play it at all.

1 hour. If a game doesn't capture your attention and enjoyment by 1 hour it is an objective failure. 1 hour is an extremely generous benefit of doubt period, these homie who say "It gets good in like...7 hours man" need to fricking drown in a septic tank. I work full time, I've got money to spare not fricking time, morons. I want my dopamine receptors firing like that Howitzer in the last Samurai, frick you, frick your 7 hour tutorial and frick jannies.

Most games dont even introduce every mechanic and feature within in the first hour now. You're dropping a game before you even see all of it.
      >I work full time, I've got money to spare not fricking time, morons.
Sounds like this hobby is no longer for you.
I also doubt your time is that valuable since you're posting here right now instead of doing anything else.

        >I'm going to bang my head into this wall for an hour and see if it has any meaning
        >1 hour passes
        >Yes this is fricking pointless and I do not enjoy it
        >Stop doing it
My time is plenty valuable homie because I just booked time off to take my girl to see the Minions movie, so I'm free to shitpost all night

You can have fun in an hour with one or two mechanics, the game doesn't need to have a tutorial for everything that will be introduced. Many games introduce new mechanics throughout, so I don't really get your point.

I finish every single game I pay money for, regardless of my enjoyment of it.
the only games I'll drop are those I'm emulating.
I can't even remember the last time I dropped a game though, I've been playing nothing but kino for months straight.

I only tend to ask 'is this game good/worth it' in threads started by people clearly enthusiastic about getting others to try a game they like, so I can lead them on a wild goose chase of trying to convince me to play when I have no intention of doing so.

jokes on you gay boy, I enjoy writing about games I'm passionate about regardless of if you play them or not, it's stimulating to breakdown why you enjoyed a game or movie on a technical and emotional level

depends on the game and what causes me to drop it in the first place. i've noped out in as little as 5 minutes but simultaneously tried to force something that wasn't fun for ~5 hours.

i think it depends for me, i can normally stomach slow starts if it gets really enjoyable
ideally, it should be good within the first hour, since first impressions are incredibly important

played battle brothers for about 10 min, but i knew as soon as I entered combat like 5min and saw that everyone's basically a board game piece that this wasn't the game for me. That's literally the only reason i refunded it. Should have used better character models

I don't track time, it's usually a portion of the game, and it honestly really depends, I don't have a minimum.
For example, I really didn't like boktai, but I did play it quite a bit before dropping it. On the other hand, I dropped No Straight Roads right after the first boss. I'll say that at least I gave the game a fair shot.
Also it helps that I pirate everything regardless of the game so I don't feel pressured to enjoy it or decide if I should refund it within a set timeframe.

I try to stick it out for an hour. More importantly than a minimum time though is taking a few breaks and trying it again. For instance I didn't really like Rain World until after I dropped it for like a month and came back, then for some reason it clicked. But there's a difference when the game is just boring, rather than being obtuse or frustrating. If it's boring it doesn't get a second shot if I'm still bored after 1 hour

Recently dropped KH Dream Drop distance when I was in the last world, after about 17 hours. Same happened with FF7 Remake at Chapter 18, after about 35 hours. Didn't enjoy the games at all, mostly just kept playing because I thought I should play DDS before KH3, and I dropped 50 euros for FF so I kept going just to get some value out of it. So really, if I play something I don't like I can drop it at the last second and not really feel anything other than relief, but usually 2-3 hours is enough to indicate whether I enjoy the game or not.

There is no specific time. If I don’t like a game immediately I’ll never play it again. Simple as. I can’t imagine forcing myself through games I don’t like, but I have a huge collection of games which look nice on my shelf. When all the ladies come over the literally squirt their pants when they see my collection of shirty games.

Not true for absolutely every game, but most. I can't stop thinking about them, even after I put them down for good. As a result, I have to be exceedingly careful about what games I pick up.

Usually 1.5-2 hours. I'm past forcing myself to try and enjoy games. If I don't vibe with it, frick it. Not gonna sit through a "must play classic" just because it's beloved
