As far as I can discern it's tangentially-related to Fallout 3 at best. It's built off the same engine so of course it shares similarities, but in terms of RPG mechanics / gameplay systems (and obviously putting the world back in the post-apocalyptic American west), it's much more like the original two Fallout games. Bethesda Fallout is fricking obsessed with this weird romanticized version of American culture frozen in the 1950s and that was not a central point of the original games at all
Fallout 3 is brutally badly written I replayed it because of the Indian memes, it was worse than I remembered it. Fallout 4 is better than Fallout 3 all you need to do is install perk and skill overhaul mods and thats it you fix that shit. And New Vegas is by far the best in the current vanilla state.
Fallout 1 has a great plot. Fallout 2 is worse Fallout 1 but its decent.
It got the same exact gameplay, the same exact graphics. Its literally just a fallout 3 expansion disguised as a new game. You edgy gays acting like new vegas is in a completely different dimension is the reason this fandom is so fricking moronic
What Fallout 3 needs is more mods than New Vegas to be a good game. Shit like Vault 112 makes no sense, you kill all the Vault Residents there and you get good karma lol. Bethesda didn't program an option to just kill Doctor Braun a huge miss there, what a bunch of morons and Col. Autumn is a really shitty villain. Everything else i can believe, I'm willing to overlook the Mechanist vs Ant Hoe shit because the Mechanist is in Fallout 4 so he has character growth and he becomes evil. There are some good aspects to FO3 but very few are the writing.

Fallout 2 is set 200 years after the post-apocalypse and they had access to advanced pre-war tech all this time. If anything doesn't make sense it's people still living in bombed-out buildings full of filth and subsisting on pre-war canned food (so the vast majority of Fallout 3).

I swear people I meet who play 76 are some of the most chill people on the planet. It's all those New Vegas reddit gays who get pissed off if you like anything that isn't New Vegas and spegg out about it.
Watching the Fallout fandom has been like watching a hurricane hit a volcano. On one hand, if I like anything Bethesda does, I'm a basedboy Bethesda shill. On the other hand, there are those autistic Sperggs who can't let people enjoy anything but the first two and New Vegas.
Literally when new vegas came out. Peoples hate boner for bethesda is so big that they claimed outer worlds was a good game and way better than fallout.
>When did the Fallout Fandom go so shit?
Any answer other than "when Fallout 2 came out" is written by kids too young to have access to the internet in 1998. There was a huge schism between fans of the two games back then that only "healed" when Bethesda purchased the franchise. Even then, it's more of cease-fire than anything.
Unironically with the announcement of Fallout 4.
The game itself is fine and virtually I don't really give a shit about it's quality because I'm just gonna turn curie into a skimpy wolf b***h anyways for a majority of the time.
But I visually noticed after Fallout 4 was announced that the general tone of the Fallout community went from chill dudes like Thenthapple and ShoddyCast who took a more serious tone, To dudes like Oxhorn who made shit in a very cutesy/goofy way.
Hell, Even ShoddyCast themselves were taken over by the annoying gay who runs the channel now and I really miss the storyteller shit compared to the gametheory shit he's created.
Don't really hate Fallout 4 myself because I've got about 2k hours in the game just from fricking around with mods/making my own and at this point the franchise has gone to shit anyways.
But I will admit that it had this weird "Disney" effect where it tried to turn everything goofy and cute compared to the prior dark and gritty and in turn caused the fandom itself to devolve into a weird "cute and friendly" imitation compared to it's prior chill nature.
Which in my opinion ruined the entire thing.
>it had this weird "Disney" effect where it tried to turn everything goofy and cute compared to the prior dark and gritty and in turn caused the fandom itself to devolve into a weird "cute and friendly" imitation

>weird "Disney" effect where it tried to turn everything goofy and cute compared to the prior dark and gritty
I'm trying to figure this one out.
When EXACTLY was this previous "dark and gritty" era of Fallout happening according to you people?
You CAN'T be talking about Fallout 3, right?
>1-NV
Honestly, I'm not even sure if I would classify those two as dark and gritty. Honestly, humor was always a pretty major part of Fallout all the way back to the first one - in fact I'd argue all the way back to Wasteland.
Fallout 1 had more skew towards the darker elements than Fo2 (although the humor in F2 is vastly exaggerated, just as much as it's understated about Fo1).
NV has it's fair share of jokes, if not straight up silly setups and scenarios.
But my point is that the only Fallout game that really, REALLY completely changes the tone, is Fo3. Which is actually the only Fo game (maybe with Fo4 because I haven't play that one much) that does not understand the "dark" element of it AT FRICKING ALL. It's by FAR the most silly, goofy, stupid, cartoony game that came out of the franchise. It's the absolute peak of turning the universe into a childish cartoon. Even what little I played of Fo4 honestly felt more serious and downbeaten than Fo3. Especially when you consider shit like fricking Zeta.
Obsidian is to creative storytelling genius what Bethesda is to hack pulp idiocy. They both so far surpass anyone else in their field that they will be remembered 1,000 years from now as a kind of yin and yang of fantasy, a Manichean duality of speculative letters. For every sublime, luminous beauty that Obsidian has gifted the world, Bethesda has cursed us with a tedious, banal ugliness. It is unfair to compare the two directly on any one point, because Bethesda is in every way the anti-Obsidian, patently sterile, parasitical, and inferior, but so much so that it becomes a monument in it's own right, and counterbalances Obsidian. Could one exist without the other?
Obsidian obviously could. But it is only by the contrast that Bethesda offers that we can truly appreciate the full depths and heights of Obsidian. Our understanding of RPGs would be incomplete if Bethesda had never set development to games. It is through only the abject failure and futility of Bethesda that we can approach an apprehension of the true scope and scale of Obsidian's hitherto inconceivable greatness. Perhaps this is what Avellone had in mind when he wrote about the Bear and the Bull. If Obsidian is a civilizing hope in the image of NCR, truly Bethesda is like unto Caesar. It is only reflected in the awfulness of the one that we can fully see the goodness of the other.
>as a kind of yin and yang of fantasy

NMA has been way too lenient on Fallout 2 apologists over the last 10 years. Its glory days are long behind it.
