But the target audience for games is eternal child 30y olds.
I’m not even thirty and I’m simultaneously too old and too young for most games.

I’m married and have shit to care about so I mostly play things that I can play on and off without needing to remember a lot of story (gameplay focused stuff) or multiplayer strategy games where I can play a couple games then stop for the day.

When I realised that games will be maximizing profits from now on and there aren't enough smart people with good taste to make a profitable market.

I'm not even the target audience of Ganker. I remember the first time I saw a halo 3 thread and had to truly question if these anons were being ironic.

I mean, there's tons of games being released that I still like but I would say around the big Modern Warfare boom. That's when gaming culture first started to diverge from what Ganker loves in general and was the beginning of the decline.

I wish videogames were still aimed at kids, those are the games I liked. Sadly they're now targeted at the same kids who are now 30

When every multiplayer game now tries to be the next best thing and keeping you hooked daily. Battle passes, daily challenges, log in bonuses, etc. It feels like if you weren’t playing since you missed out on unlockables forever.

    never happened
however I do see more and more political messages injected into "AAA" "games", and that turns me off, but the vast majority of games I se and like seem as though they are targeted at people like me
    and that''s another point:
there are so many games out there why focus on what you don;t like?

7th gen. There's still some good games, but there was a huge shift then.

The rise of parasocial streaming, pewdiepie on south park territory was the first "huh I don't feel like the target demographic anymore". It's more of a gradient. I can culturally comprehend down to about 23-24 year olds. Earlier than that and it's all greek to me. Battle royales and fortnite is the other one as the latter really exemplifies the sparkly garishly colorful vibe going on now. Monkey's paw for wishing brown and bloom grimdark would end.

Now I just cling onto a few lingering legacies where I can still be the target demographic. Chiefly Arma or Total war. I already expect Xcom will pass me by since they aren't working on Xcom3 and are too focused on that marvel shit.

Somewhere around 7th Gen, with the death of the AA industry, perhaps due to rising costs that came with HD, and general changing trends that I did not identify or want anything to do with. Dishonest practices blooming or on the rise at this time too.

I disagree. As someone who's been into gaming since the mid 80's, I can tell you that the selection of games is the most varied it has ever been. All the stuff I loved from the 80's and 90's all have thriving communities and new games coming. Fricking R-Type of all games came back, a series I thought would never happen. Compare that to late 00's where nearly everything was a military FPS. My only issue is that the amount of new content is anemic, but is it still coming which is good enough for me.

    I think it was back in 2007. I could've bought a 7th gen console but I just didn't care.
