Fijibuyashi or whatever started directing with SS, which is when Zelda started getting shittier. I don't see how it's necessarily Aonuma's fault. He did direct Minish Cap though which was great.

ultrahand isn't simply about building vehicles it's a global mechanic of objects manipulation and it's required for quite a few scenarios outside of shrines (off the top of my head, the lurelin rebuilding quest, wind, lightning and spirit temples, the whole great fairies quest, the call from the depths quest etc etc)

if the point is a mechanic that can be ignored is worthless then it's so unbeliavably stupid I don't even know what to say, cuphead allows and even encourages pacifist runs that'd be like saying shooting is a useless mechanic in this game

It's strange because when I'm playing TotK or BotW I honestly had fun with it, I liked exploring all there was to explore, do everything there was to do, and had a good time doing it, and yet at the same time I feel like they aren't very good games, they are very shallow.

For example, the depths. What a waste of time the entire area is, complete and utter wasted potential. It's a MASSIVE area but there's not really anything of actual substence to do down there. There's 2 kinds of collectibles, and yes one of them is useful for stunning enemies, there's a few new monsters there, but overall it's the same repeated content over and over again. Some enemy camps with treasure / the upgrade crystals, those sheika camps with useless designs you will never use, and the only real reward is DLC armor from BotW that's hidden around various areas.

I mean I thought MM had asset re-use but this game is even worse. It's just not something I will ever want to play again.

      Anonymous

The Depths and sky are too shallow and samey. They feel like prime candidates for DLC expansion. Too bad that didn't happen (though maybe that's a good thing since they had the balls to push for an upcharge on TotK as it is).

It looks really good for the game when the only arguments for why it's bad are just disingenuous shitposts like this. The strongest criticism for both BotW and TotK is that Nintendo should have only made Tears because it's BotW but complete, and that's really it. TotK is still amazing.

They did Ocarina and Majora's with the same assets and are totally different games, why couldn't they do that with BOTW and TOTK instead of making their GOTY winner fully obsolete? Also the "dungeons" are trash, also the Lore is all fricked up even tho they are sequels the Sheikah technology simply just "vanished" and no one remembers Link. Masterpiece.

  45. 2 weeks ago

I'm reserving my judgment till the next Zelda game. Tears was a massive disappointment, but it was a direct sequel using botw as a template and reusing all its mechanics and world. With a new era of Zelda they will (hopefully) start from basically scratch again like they do with every other Zelda that wasn't a direct sequel. Nintendo always wants to reinvent the wheel with Zelda and they know they can't use open world sandbox as the selling point for a 3rd time. If the next one is a disappointment though it's over.

I don't think it will get better, I see Zelda going the Pokemon route, gamers that really knew what made it special don't buy it anymore but it gets the best sales ever every time a new one comes out because normies buy it and the franchise gets progresively worse.

I don't understand how people love TotK. I could understand it with BOTW because it was completely new but TotK has nothing that is actually really good.

    >map is the exact same so there's no more sense of exploration
    >despite not having to work on the map, we still end up with a shockingly low number of new enemies for a game the longest zelda game to make to date
    >story is still just told through flashbacks, so you have no real driving force since everything of real note happened eons ago
    >even that was messed up, because instead of unlocking the flashbacks sequentially, they are tied to the fricking locations, which means you are getting the story out of order
    >the actual dungeons are cool but they are still woefully short and incredibly easy to complete
    >vehicle building completely breaks the pace of the game time wise unless you go with the best vehicle that literally takes three (easily unlocked) parts to make
    >the exact same shrines with the same easy puzzles are back
    >the normal gameplay is still "go to X, do mundane task, collect Y, repeat" with most locations just leading to a shrine to gain a weapon and repeat
    >weapons are now even worse, with most of them being rusted
    >item crafting/combination looks and feels incredibly jank and stupid
    >item crafting/combination menu is a fricking linear menu that utterly ruins combat
    >the underground is just a giant inverted map with nothing in it except darkness and monsters
    >sky world is mostly just shrines, and still appears underdeveloped
    >massive glaring plotholes. where did the original shrines go? where are the divine beasts? why does it all feel like it never existed?
    >final boss is even more marvelslop-tier than last time while having a completely lackluster atmosphere to it
At its best, I was just replaying Breath of the Wild but with a DLC. It's the only Zelda game I consciously decided to put down and never play after four days cause of how disappointing and boring it was.
