It has some choice individual scenes but it flows together like ass and tries a bit too hard to be funny and it doesn't feel as seamless as 2's balance of jokes and seriousness.

I think Will was perfectly justified after meeting his dad again and realizing Jack sold him off. Granted, Jack did go and get some innocent bums to be sold off to Jones, he probably could have gotten one more and trade Will back.

Nah, Dead Man's Chest is actually fricking great but At World's End has way too many cut scenes that were important like the one scene with Beckett and Jack that summarized Jack's actions that branded him a pirate to begin with.

Jack is at his best as a supporting character. He's allowed to be weird and occasionally brilliant when he's got more serious characters to bounce off of. He was a delight in the first movie, and great in the second, but the more focus he got the less interesting and charming he became.

And focusing on Barbossa's revenge sideplot was much more interesting to me than the actual Jack wanking in 5 with the constant chase from Salazar and that one good flashback scene. Will's son and Barbossa's daughter were not a fun duo for Jack to be bouncing off from. I don't even fricking remember if Gibbs was around in 5

I'm not sure that they've ever put out an outright bad album; though Curse of the Crystal Coconut is the one that I skip through the most it still has some amazing tracks. I have actually enjoyed Seventh Rum of a Seventh Son quite a bit, especially as I listen to it more.

Saw them live a few years back. We had a midget in the audience that got up on stage to dance around for midget saw, their drum kit was a fully stocked bar, and by the end of their set the singer was fricking wasted and got a crowed surf to the bar for another drink because he wasn't sure he could walk there himself. Then when sitting around outside afterwards he came out and sat with us on the curb and talked shit like he was always one of us. All in all it was a pretty great night. Also Barbarion were there and they are fricking hilarious

The Monkey Island series is great but after the first hour of the first game it kinda stops being fully centered around pirates, is weird in a charming way. Said that, I feel the whole pirates sub-genre is one of those that is great for all the non-pirate stuff each work includes. Even the first books about pirates say a lot of things that pirates historically never did

Since around 2006 when Microsoft hired every moron celebrity under the sun to promote their games. Which was at the same time the Wii came out and Nintendo called for everyone's grandma to turn to games as well. But officially done, I'd say with MK11, the one fighting game franchise I'd never expect to go full blown feminist.

Mistakes were made on both sides. Depp abandoned his family, replaced them for Heard, got a weird phase expected from anyone related to Hollywood at some point in their life except the payback came to him hard. Ended up slightly dismembered in a toxic relationship with a borderline psycho lunatic where him, as a man, unexpectedly ended up as the victim and nobody fricking believed him. A tad too big of a payment imo.

Free 2 Play used to be a hilariously transparent gimmick. Like whats the fricking point of being "free" when you eventually spend more than the price of the average game on having to buy features and content

Now it's the standard for shooters. Nothing about has changed. It's still a scam. People just embrace it now and devs that would have been peddling shovelware just a decade ago are now making bank off the shit.

So I don't know man. I guess from here on out its backlogs and replays for me where the FPS genre is concerned.

When after watching E3 and TGS I realised there's not a single announced game I'm excited about, and then it repeated for several years
That was somewhere after 2012-2013, and the fact that E3 is fricking dead now (after going to shit) just confirms that industry no longer cares about people like me (TGS still exist but there's frickall announced these days)
    1 >>>>> 2 >>>>> trash >>>>> 3 = 4, never watched 5
first movie was the only good one
second started out very weird, then was okay in the middle but then went to shit near the end and it was so bad that entirety of third movie was on the same level of bad
fourth movie was boring AND bad, some scenes had no point and were there just so characters could act like morons for no reason and waste screentime (that fricking pseudo-Russian roulette revolver scene lowered my IQ by 10-15 due to how stupid it was)

Titanfall 2. It was the peak example of two things
    1) People won't play a game just for fun, they need their entertainment to be a form of work unto itself. It's ironic, but if a game doesn't demand to take as much time as others to grind shit and "progress," then it's harder for them to justify fitting it into their schedule. Any time spent "just" having fun is better spent on a game that's both "fun" AND work
    2) What games get played is disproportionately decided not by their own quality or player-driven popularity, but by the words of talking heads. People bought into fads before, and it's not like fads weren't shaped by certain entities and networks before, but now, fads and popularity surrounding games is so routinely settled by e-celebs and the like

Those things have shaped the industry, as publishers cater to those two facets to make their game relevant and lively.

Oh absolutely, 100%. One of the most common and Black personish complaints surrounding why people don't get into fighting games is some misconstrued idea that they can't enjoy a competitive vidya without some aspiration to be the best of the best, with esport circuits full of veteran players being a heavily cited element to that. It's always the implication they take from ranked too, that it'll feed into some sort of structure competitive element for dosh, eventually. Trying to get the bag has completely warped people's perceptions of playing fighting games, their development, support from the devs, and so on.

            Anonymous

Only to result in a playerbase becoming smaller where the same names, it's like they're self predating themselves. And the games become a convoluted mess for the sake of competitive before dumbing them down in order to attract people. All for the lie of balance.

Sad state for such a great genre back then.

        Anonymous

Honestly, the esports chase just twists those two facets into singular, throbbing cancer. It is the definition of turning vidya into work, and its landscape is dominated and shaped by e-celebs.

I would argue to the contrary. That's what the industry wants to think, but they have consistently failed to artificially force large numbers of people into games that are bad. The public reacts almost unpredictably. Look at the popularity of Fortnite's Battle Royale mode, that wasn't planned, it just happened. Then the industry continually attempted to push people into similar GAAS titles that actually were planned out to be massive titles, and consistently they fail.

        Anonymous

It's really strange how fortnite dethroned pubg for battle royale, I wonder if the bridge moment played a part or was it because of free to play and more kids friendly?

        Anonymous

100% this, the biggest example of that for me is biomutant, thq nordic bought almost every major reviewer and streamer to play that game before and during release and no one bought or played that game still.

        Anonymous

But what you seem to be wording is more about corpo meddling forcing trends, rather than about e-celebs. You have a point if you want to say that corpos have been unable to use e-celebs as silver bullets, wrangling them through promotions to force the popularity of a certain title, but that doesn't speak to the efficacy of e-celebs as a whole. Not to mention it brings into concern the fact that such things are often limited promotions, and they often do work within the time frame they were paid for.

          Anonymous

The artificial use of e-celebs in promotions rarely seems to work unless there is already interest in the game. Meanwhile, when e-celebs aren't being funneled into promotions they are usually just following existing trends that formed naturally. They do act as a massive draw for such a trend and accelerate its growth, but it isn't like Twitchgay2000 is picking a random Steam game and turning it into a massive success overnight. Look at the big wave of FFXIV streaming from a couple of years ago. That was a game that had been growing consistently for years, its primary competitor cut their own dick off, and that accelerated its growth. Then streamers started getting on board, and it accelerated even more. Then Asmongold finally relented and tried it, and it hit critical mass. He didn't start the trend, he just followed it.

I disagree. You're putting it as simply adding gas to the fire, whereas it's easily observable within the fighting game and shooter space that they are undoubtedly tipping the scales of trends, and there's too many times where they most certainty are acting as driving forces akin to "Twitchgay2000." At best and in either case, it's splitting hairs over the exact degree of things: either way is still a disproportionate and distasteful amount of influence, but also I'm right and you're wrong so you're a doodyhead
