It's just a glorified video output, it won't even upclock the system's internals like the switch dock does, what's the point

I want to hook it up to my monitor and be able to plug in peripherals/Ethernet and don't want to shell out for some shit 3rd party hub/dock if they're making an actual one

same, I want to bring it to my friend and play tekken 7

the anker hub is pretty legit even outside of the deck

It keeps this massive thing in a vertical position so I can find somewhere to place it, and it doesn't brick it when I plug it to my monitor (I fricking hope at least).

you can restore the original switch clockspeed in handheld mode via cfw
it's literally just a flag in the code, the Steam Deck has no need for that because it's already running at full speed, while the switch 90% of the time runs at like 80% speed hence the battery

When the figure out how to implement persistent docked USB storage in steam UI.

I have it on a 512gb sd for a few games and some regular computer stuff i can only do on windows. It works great because it leaves the steam os ssd installation alone. This is the guide i followed https://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/how-to-install-windows-steam-deck/

how’s the performance using steam os vs windows?

I much prefer windows just because i know it better. But steam os is fun too. I play primehack on steam os. Windows is really fast on the sd i have. I got this one for $65. I use a program called glossi or something along with steam big picture so that the controls work.

is that an external USB/microSD or an internal one? I'd love to be able to dock it and restart in windows.

I have it on a micro sd card. When the deck is off, you just have to hold volume down and power to select it as the boot device every time you want to boot into it.

shame the Steam Deck didn't use windows

Takes very little effort to learn to use linux, fricking homosexuals. I'm practically tech illiterate and I can do it. Wangblows has rotted your brains

i mean i've never used a linux build before the deck and it is exactly like windows operationally with a slightly different ui

modern linux is quite literally the same as windows except it has native command line access, which doesnt REALLY even matter anymore after the powershell updates a few years ago

          linux sucks
I tried uploading an image from desktop mode on the deck and it wouldn't even work

What the frick does that even mean? When the drive isn't plugged in, you can access the files? Are you delusional?

Idk but i use a nice little usb c hub that i got from best buy which has a usb c port, usb a port, and hdmi on it. The brand is j5 create. If I need more USB ports or if I want to use ethernet I can plug in the one on the right to the one on the left. The technet one was cheap, i got it on Amazon for a few bucks. The other one was a little pricier but that's because I bought it at Best buy because I needed it that day.

Tard question, but do these things work for the Switch? My dock broke a while ago so it's been impossible to hook up my Switch to the TV.

You know.. i dont know. I remember being in Linux on my switch and using a hub and using regular USB devices in the USB c port but if your system isn't hacked I'm not really sure.

a dock just holds something, anon
anyway if you have to plug a cable in the top then it isn't a "dock" by your standards either

Who knows. They keep dumping firmware updates for it in the package repos but it's nowhere to be seen.
Just buy the JSAUX one at this point if you're impatient.

Will the JSAUX dock let me go above 800p without switching to desktop mode?

        Anonymous

That's not a limitation of USB-C docks, anon, it's a limitation of how Valve does things in a gamescope session
Getting different dock hardware won't change anything, you need to modify gamescope and recompile it and potentially also some variables in /usr/bin/gamescope-session

docked SteamDeck has problems (i have one and wanted it as a TV console for pc games)
    >0 video output settings. I'm locked to 4K, 30fps on my tv.
    >input lag
    >desktop mode has an issue with HDMI audio output that only puts audio in the left speaker
    >when waking deck and TV, sometimes the entire resolution scaling is fricked and you have to replug
    >switching between docked and portable always causes visual problems in some games
they'd be moronic to release an official dock while the docked experience is in this state. they're mostly software issues that can be patched over time but it doesn't seem to be a high priority yet.

      Anonymous

why would you not be able to modify the video out??

        Anonymous

not sure who you're asking, me or steam. I /could/ look into modifying config files of Gamescope (the game mode), or compiling my own version of it, if that's what it takes.

but I just want an easy, mod-free device. plug and play. in the current state of Gamescope/steamdeck, you plug your deck into a dock with a screen, and the SteamDeck uses whatever the native resolution of the screen device is and nothing else. you can still select resolution in-game, but because it has to upscale and is (maybe not for every dock) locked to 30fps at 4K, there's a performance hit, a lag hit, and is just shitty. maybe it works fine on 720p/1080p screens, but it's a pretty big oversight when many screens natively use a resolution that the steamdeck cannot handle.
