Where the FRICK do I even start with this franchise?

I wanted to get into classic RE but there's like a million different versions of the first game:
>Resident Evil (PS1)
>Resident Evil: Director's Cut
>Resident Evil: Director's Cut Dual Shock Version
>Resident Evil: True Director's Cut (Hack)
>Resident Evil: Deadly Silence
>Resident Evil (GCN)
>Resident Evil Archives: Resident Evil
>Resident Evil HD
Which one do I play if I want to do 2 and 3 after?

Don't. You're too late, and you're not welcome in this community. Go find another franchise.

skip the first game it's bad, 2 remake is the best in the series and 4 is decent but not amazing
so yeah 2 good games in total

From the beginning. You can't appreciate shit about anything if you don't start from the beginning.

Everything after RE GCN is just a port of that game and that's the version that's referenced in later RE entries as the definitive version of events(inasmuch as Chris and Jill could both have gone through the adventure). It also has a lot of quality of life control features that were added in games that came out after the original RE, but compensates by adding stuff like the Crimson Heads

None of them, you can go straight to 2 then play 4 then drop the series.

Skip 1 because it's dog shit and go straight to RE2 remake and then skip 3, go to 4 (the best in the series) then skip 5 because it's just more of 4 but way way worse and clunkier. Skip 6 because it's regarded as a legitimately bad game. And play 7 and 8 which are amazing but still don't quite live up to 4

play RE1 remake on PC. then 2 remake.

RE1 is pure garbage. Just watch a longplay if you're so obsessed with muh'lore.
Don't play ANY of the fixed camera games. They're all badly designed sludgeware.

I can understand saying this about the OG game but the remake is kino and you are a low IQ Black person if you disagree.

It's still tedious and boring, better graphics don't change that.

Play 4 (Original is better imo)
Play 5 if you want, it's not that great
    Skip 6
    Play 7 and 8

Can't you morons READ before replying to my thread? I'm asking about classic RE (I've played 4) and more specifically which version of RE1 is the best to start with.

They are all bad and not worth playing. You got an answer you just didn't like it.

So there's no discontinuity between the remake and the original 2 and 3?

These games have internal discontinuity, the story doesn't really matter.

REmake for PC. Don't bother with ps1.

I recommend Resident Evil Director's Cut, but not the dual-shock edition because they frick up the original soundtrack in that version.

Ignore REmakegays, they're new and haven't actually finished their game.
For whatever reason, BioRAND, the RE Randomizer, has the fully patched PC versions of 1-3 just on their site. Capcom doesn't care.
      https://biorand.net/
Just click download, and it'll take you down to three options. Do not get the HD Pack, it uses absurdly bad AI upscaling, the games look like they're melting. Just get the middle package in the pic, "Resident Evil + BioRand", which is just 4.3gb.
When it's down downloading and unzipping (if needed) it should give you a folder with four folders inside it, which are labelled
      >biorand
      >re1
      >re2
      >re3
These are the full games, fully patched and playable.

        Forgot pic.
Also, when launching the games it will show a window after doing your config, just click okay. It's a mod menu to let you select what version to play, and the only other version is DEV BioRand, which you wouldn't want. It defaults to vanilla RE.

Thanks, but is there any particular advantage to playing these PC versions over emulation?

          >skippable door transitions
          >mod support
          >optional QoL additions like tactical reload and quickturn in RE1 and 2
          >disable RNG in 3 (optional)

Just start with whatever version of REmake is easiest for you to get your hands on or the non-Dual Shock Director's Cut if you want to play the PS1 version. If you plan on playing other classic RE I'd recommend making sure to play with tank controls if you play HD.

    Order should be RE1/REmake -> RE2 -> RE3 -> CV/CVX -> RE0

Code Veronica & Zero are the weakest installments.
