If you start any encounter by stealthing first and then activating Turn Based Mode and hitting the first attack to force a Surprised condition on the mobs, you get a free turn to do what you want and trivialise anything.

The most baffling thing is 5e doesn't really even let you make bad builds. You have to intentionally sabotage yourself with multiclassing to make a bad character. It spoonfeeds you all the tools you need.
Stop thinking you need to be a level higher than your enemy. There are multiple ways to completely destroy them.
