drop the series
Play 4, 5, 6, 7 and 9.
Never play anything else.
You mean X. IX was absolute trash.
TOTAL ZOOMER DEATH
have a nice day to death
drop the series
Play 6 first. Emulate the SNES version.
>emulate the censored version
Emulate the iconic translation and the only reason so many people remember FF3/6 today, yes. Pixel ass is a small price to pay
I have only played 1 and absolutely hated it. Literally just a waste time on random battles simulator.
4, 5, 6, 7, 10. Then drop it.
This but replace 10 with 9
9 was so mid, frfr
6 is my favorite but I think 4 is the most traditional, defining Final Fantasy game. First one that nailed the formula.
i'm not a huge rpg guy in general, but i've been enjoying 6 so far as my first
Whichever one interests you, they are all independent games so order doesn't matter.
5, 7 and 8 are personal faves of mine
I don't think there's a wrong place to start, it depends if you can stomach the four niggas in a line genre or if you need something that seems more actiony. Then it's how much do you care about the graphics being good.
6 then ignore the rest
Play XII or V if you want and actual RPG with gameplay competitive with the rest of the industry, XII is going to be the most modern and V if you want the SNES flavor.
Play VI and VII if you want to experience the best stories the series has to offer, same as above, VI for the SNES flavor and VII for the more modern approach.
Play I and III if you want to know the "roots" of the series.
Play II if you want to get informed enough to be contrarian in Final Fantasy threads.
Play IV if you want to know the roots of what would eventually become VI and VII.
Play VIII, X, and XIII if you are a lobotomized animeshitter.
Play IX if you like the art style, but there's not many other reasons to play it.
Play XV and the MMOs if you like eating shit, I guess.
or, play Tactics and laugh from your ivory tower about how a spinoff mogs every mainline game released.
>Play XII or V if you want and actual RPG with gameplay competitive with the rest of the industry, XII is going to be the most modern and V if you want the SNES flavor.
Same. These are peak mainline FF gameplay thanks to the party building aspects. The difficulty is also just right, not too hard, but never too easy.
>Play VIII, X, and XIII if you are a lobotomized animeshitter.
Gotta call you out for this though, you are posting in an anime website.
anime I like = good, anime == VIII, X, & XIII = bad
What anime do we like?
VampD and Vagabond
Should have specified Zodiac Age for FFXII if you want the Job system.
As for FFV, I think all versions are equally good but iirc only Advance gets the Enuo extra boss.
>Play VIII, X, and XIII if you are a lobotomized animeshitter.
This. 10 is borderline trash and the other two are worse.
10 is cool if you are in for gameplay though, sphere system is basically an older version of XII license boards minus the equipment and it's the only game where you can quickswap in battle.
FFT ain't even the best square published tactical rpg.
They are all separate stories and universes until explicitly stated otherwise in sequels(e.g. FFIV after years and X-2), so it doesn't matter.
Pick whatever looks the best for you, personally I like IV, V and XII
There’s multiple good starting points for the FF series. Most people say that 4, 6, 7, 9, and 10 are all good picks for a first Final Fantasy game, look into each one and see which appeals to you the most.
the gba version
The one, that sparks your interest. Otherwise VII.
ff7 with 5x speed hacks.
Play Final Fantasy 4, Final Fantasy 6, Final Fantasy 7, Fallout, Final Fantasy 8, then listen to the Final Fantasy X soundtrack on youtube, then drop the series.
Play it in order by release date but skip any turnbased or atb slop
4,5,6,7,8,9,X,X-2,and Xll stop here
Tactics are the only good spinoffs
Play XIV if you think or are already a Tranny
/vr/ HERE, DON'T LISTEN TO THESE homosexualS
Start with EHRGEIZ
>ironic weebs weeping over the KINO that is FF VIII
Disc 2 is boring and sucks. Refute it. You can’t.
There was a good disc beyond 4? And that's just because the final dungeon can be a challenge with the locked commands.
> There was a good disc beyond 4?
What are you even talking about? FF8 israelites in serious denial.
I was agreeing with you by saying all discs sucked but the 4th. Though I guess the 1st at least gets Edea's scene.
Okay yeah I agree then 1st disc and 4th are good but 8 drops the ball for disc 2 especially, which is arguably the most important disc.
>ironic weebs seething at each other, can barely communicate
Still better than talking with whoever thinks VIII is an acceptable entry. Should be grouped with FFI NES lol
4, 6, 7, 10 and 14 are good starters. if you have some JRPG experience, you can add 1 and 5 to that
7. Then 8. Then 4 (2 in the US). Then 12. Then 13. Then 15.
The rest don't matter. Play 9 if you are desperate, it has some nice areas.
>Then 4 (2 in the US).
Nah fuck the US baby mode shit. Get either a fantranslated jap IV rom or any of the 3D ports, you'd be surprised at how challenging such a simple FF can be if they bother making the enemies dangerous.
>try to play the first FF on PSP emulator multiple times
>always lose interest early despite liking the concept
Something about this game is just not very fun to play despite having a lot of good points, especially when it actually fucking works unlike the NES version.
its just a generic dragon quest rip off anon. theres nothing that special about ff1/2/34/5.
wow its hecking based because i slam attack on easy mobs for like an hour and than steamroll a bunch of content until i can't repeat
V is the one with the job system though, you get to do some fun shit with the various combinations. IV Hispanices it up enough despite lacking gameplay variety, but you need to avoid the US baby mode verison.
Can agree that 1 to 3 is kinda meh, but at least is surprisingly well done outside of the original game.
Whatever, don't say you haven't been warned. SNES IV is braindead even for FF standards, that includes Advance and PR
*US SNES IV. Original japanese is fine
5 story is literal nonsense and its the subjob system doesn't add enough to make the stale standard jrpg combat any fun.
4 story is limited too much from being a snes game. play the 3d version if you must.
idk i just don't care for the first 5 games though i do like a few of the older dq games especially 5. dq more things just feel more viable than ff which most bosses are immune to everthing and every standard mob dies in 1-2 making 99% of spells worthless
>5 story is literal nonsense
To be fair it's very intentional. They made a lighthearted story just for the sake of having a game for the job system.
I agree that 3D FFIV is a better version, but if you really want the SNES version you can probably find a romhack with fantranslation around.
>most bosses are immune to everthing
iirc all IV bosses are vulnerable to Slow and Sap, the latter is damage over time.
V bosses are also vulnerable to Slow except Neo-Exdeath.
But yeah, it's a problem with the entire series.
>and every standard mob dies in 1-2 making 99% of spells worthless
First of all, enemies appear in larger groups in older games and might kill a party member or two if you aren't fast enough by ganging on them. Second, characters that rely on spell casting are usually unable to do any decent physical damage so it will be the only way for them to be useful at all. Once you get AoE spells they are possibly your main source of DPS instead.
Other than that, status spells are worthless but thankfully you get weapons with secondary effects so you can hope to reduce enemy DPS, especially later on when mobs do not die in 2 hits.
>but at least
Forgot to add "the first" after this. I was the anon who actually tried playing FFI multiple times, even the NES version for the lulz.
Play whatever you think looks cool
IV. It's short but still encompasses the bulk of what "Final Fantasy" had become and would remain through IX.
V is right after it and that's pretty different from IV, unless you intentionally stick to similar jobs.
VII is also something else with the materia system and we don't talk about VIII.
IX is what looks like IV the most, to the point I'd define it a spiritual sequel.
6-10 was the starting point for 90% of the English fanbase so pick one of those.
>skipping IV and V
If you like it play X
If you like that and don't mind 2D games try 4 and 6
If you like those try 5
If you don't mind really old 2D games try 1-3
If you want a somewhat contemporary homage to the older games try 9
If you like MMOs try 11 and 14
If you like the playstyle of an MMO but not the social aspects so much try 12
If you're feeling really adventurous try 13 and 15
If you haven't already, play V. It's a seriously underrated game with a lot of stuff to try out and many particular mechanics you see in future games came from here.
Such a fucking shame that the closest thing to FFV system is XII TZA of all things. Should be the standard for RPGs, especially the part where your characters also get different outfits and change jobs any time if you wish to test different things, or even run jobless
