Sorry, anon. Meant 2 has better bosses, easily. Otherwise 2 is too easy for me to like more. To be honest, my opinion could be changed. Right now, I think 1 is better because the levels are more straightforward and faster paced. 2 feels like a chore sometimes.
better bosses
better level design

gets you a better girlfriend because she'll say "oh look the dinosaur and baby are so cute can we play together" then you're in
Yeah, they’re both better than Mario 3. I don’t hate it, it’s just inferior. I thought a lot about this. I used to be on the fence, but there’s no question World is better than 3. The levels in 3 that require a secret exit to beat the level ruin it. I don’t think the power ups are as good even if there are technically more. It’s a more formulaic experience all around, imo.
Mario 3 was still a learning experience for Nintendo, and on a very simple machine. It's pretty great for it's time and Nintendo only improved on the formula as years went by and technology improved.
Mario 3 had the much better powerrups and level variety by miles. The issue is that the individual levels are incredibly short, and half of them you can blast through in 15 seconds or less. Then by world 6 they become incredibly hard.
The GBA version fixed some stuff by changing around and fixing a few of the confusing levels and the ones that relied on a single near impossible spot. And it allowed for moving back and forth through the different worlds like SMW.
No one understands a game that does not have a save feature. The levels are really short because the intention with each gameplay was to play to win. It makes sense for them to be short since every single time you turn the game on you start from the very beginning.
I would agree that YI > SMW > SMB3, but I don't think any of them are bad games at all. In fact, they are all great games. We all just have our preferences.
My only gripe with SMB3 is it had some annoying platform sections and some especially short levels which I didn't care for. Otherwise I had really no complaints.

Collectathon shit doesn't belong in 2D platformers. It's not "exploration" when most of the time it just makes you check every edge of the screen to see if the camera wiggles a little bit to let you know that there's something on the other side of this big pit or fake wall that you can't see.
Well, DKC games don't have a time limit, so you can enjoy the comfyness as you go. I think they did an okay job. DKC64 was pure shit in comparison. You had to do collecthathon shit just to progress to the end. At least the SNES games were not forced for completion of the game. Everything after DKC2 was pure collecthahon garbage forcing you to do it to beat the game, from DKC3 up through the Banjo games and Starfox Adventures.
2 started the 100% collectathon challenges that are annoying if you want to get all the secrets. They're not hard, but just time wasting. The only games I played that made the challenges fun was Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine, mostly because the freedom of exploration was rewarded. Everything after was just tedium.
that's the double edged sword of autism. they love seeing that 100% at the end of the level but if they don't collect everything it ruins the experience for them
Why was it? Do you remember? My only guess is people would have got upset that you played as Yoshi instead of Mario after playing Super Mario World. I can't imagine people who played it didn't like the game though.
when the game came out it got universal praise. anon was just the 90s equivalent of a cod baby who thought he was too mature to play games that don't feature dismemberment.
I've heard from a lot of people in Gen X that Super Mario World was where they lost the beat with Mario. My boss and uncle at least still hold the original NES trilogy and arcade games in higher regard than World, it's just something I've noticed around where I live that World wasn't as big a hit. I think I have like one relative with a SNES

that happens every generation. not everyone who plays games as a child sticks with it throughout the rest of their life.

Super Mario World was the original "New Super Mario Bros". It's the same formula, again, but easier. The art, music and set-up are also very similar. Of course it's not gonna have the same impact of the first 3. It feels like the first true rehash of Mario.
At first it was just too different from a typical Mario game. And it removed a lot of what people liked about SMW in going back and forth to different levels across the map. he map was really straight forward, but like every other 2D mario game that came after it for the next 20 years.
The platforming took a backseat to collecting and fighting enemies was more strategic egg making and throwing than the simple run and jump. The levels turned into trying to get through a complicated maze.
in 95-96 Donkey Kong Country gave the platformer players what they wanted.
Reminder Yoshi's Island was half Miyamoto hissy fit and half passion project by a bunch of (tat the time) new recruits. At one point the team had been reduced to a skeleton crew due to being shifted to N64 projects and they still hit it out of the park.
Yoshi's Island is good, but different. The pace is slower and some levels become a little maze-like. There's also the attribute that there is a bigger emphasis on collecting things in the levels. Overall, I think it was a good experiment, and many players will enjoy the game. But Mario is Mario. I think Super Mario World at its heart and soul was already built off of some already extremely appealing games, and it has the advantage. Either way, I think we got a good variety of strong games on the system. I defy anyone to play Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country 1, and Yoshi's Island, and not feel like they enjoyed some part of it.
What do you mean? You can replay levels you completed, at least for the GBA release that was true. Did the original force you to only play the newest level?
SMW2 and it's not even close
The bosses are better, but that’s about it. I don’t know how you could really think this.
how are bosses better in world? 50% of them are just reznor

I agree that yoshi's island is easy but it's not any easier than mario world. 50% of the levels you can just fly over.
1, obviously.
>rushed game
Vs.
>eurojank design thinly disguised in a jap game
Tough choice.

Notice how people will vote SMW2 when pitted against SMW but will vote SMW when pitted against SMB3. What is this slander against older NES games?

the big problem with smb3 is that there are too many levels that only last a couple seconds
Because they're old and don't play well nowaday. It's not that deep.
utter retard
Mario 3 was my favorite game growing up. I think zoomers hate Mario 3 because you can beat it in 2 worlds if you know about the flutes.

SMW2 has too much boring collectathon busy work. It's the DKC2 to SMW1's DKC1. SMW1 is the vastly better game despite still being inferior to SMB3
DKC2 was actually fun collection, though. Rewarded exploration and had an amazing OST.

Yoshi's Island > World
I like both, just think Yoshi's Island is much more fun and memorable.
the "collectathon" element of smw2 only bothers extreme autists. you aren't required to collect anything to progress
Autists are the ones that love the collectathons. Why do you think Asians like them so much?
that's the double edged sword of autism. they love seeing that 100% at the end of the level but if they don't collect everything it ruins the experience for them
1 easily. No one liked SMW2 when it came out. Everyone was disappointed with the baby shit.
who cares what a bunch of edgelord 9 year olds thought?
>t. zoomer who wasn't even born when SMW2 came out
i'm 37. No one liked it.

DKC is still a good game though.
Yoshi's Island is the closest a game ever got to true perfection.
SMW2 was an artistic masterpiece that no other mario game managed to replicate
It's 2 and even the devs know it with the heartfelt message they put in
Yoshi's Island is good, but different. The pace is slower and some levels become a little maze-like. There's also the attribute that there is a bigger emphasis on collecting things in the levels. SMW2 is a Yoshi game, not a Mario game. So comparing them is pointless
Still love the game I'll never understand why Yoshi's Island gives you absolutely zero choice when selecting levels besides the Extra shit you unlock.
>But my baby relay race
There's like canonically 10 000 yoshis. Like they put that much thought into it.
What do you mean? You can replay levels you completed, at least for the GBA release that was true. Did the original force you to only play the newest level?
yoshi island
>why?
is my favorite game
2. Not even close.
Yoshi's Island is one of the top 10 games of all time.
why?
