XIV unironically does the same shit. But the players have a different approach since a lot just care about RP and nothing else.

FFXIV gear literally does not matter. Have 610 gear? You will not notice 625 gear. Item levels are fucked on this game and worse yet they give you best in slot stuff for cheap tokens all the way through until level 90. To catch up on gear at level 90 it takes maybe a week if that to get those stats that people so desperately cling to spamming boring dungeons for. Stats they dont even notice. Gear is the worst aspect of FFXIV.

I've never cared about the nitty gritty of gearing or calculating numbers, so for me, it's only a pro rather than a con.
Why would gear matter in old content? If you want it to matter just do the content with min ilvl and no echo
