1 has less bloat and I remember more fondly, but 2 has one of the best intros in gaming:

The European intro with the remix is so much better.

    2. Refined physics, more cars (especially the non JP ones) and I like a few of the added tracks.
4 is also better than 3.

      Really?
I heard that GT 3 is better than GT 4 because the latter has various technical problems.

4's physics are technically superior to 3 if using a wheel, but the steering for controllers is utterly broken in 4 which makes it feel terrible in the hands, and like every car has understeering and abrupt snap oversteering problems.
This is extremely evident if you play 4, then 3 or 5/6 immediately afterwards.
        >car starts to oversteer while turning right
        >in 3, 5, 6: slam the stick left and the steering will progressively countersteer, allowing you to adjust steering lock with coarser modulation (aka the "correct" way to handle control stick steering), resulting in either a clean correction or a nice drift if you keep on the power
        >in 4: slam the stick left and it instantly goes full lock, swinging you the other way, causing you to instinctively countersteer the other way, which swings it wildly the other way again, and by now you're in a bad cycle that ends in either a complete spinout, or you letting off everything to regain some semblance of control and hope
I used to think I just sucked ass at GT-style semi-sim racing games when I played 4, then got 5 expecting more of the same, only to find that I always felt in much better control.

Even with a wheel there is something incredibly fucking weird with how GT4 handles wheelspin that extends to Tourist Trophy (and is of course, even fucking weirder there), where if you get on the gas too hard instead of sliding the car just doesn't accelerate at all like the clutch is slipping. It's good on the front end and with cars that don't light up the rears but when I finally played TT it pissed me off so much I wondered how I ever put up with it in GT4 back in the day.

Also I thought 5 still let you over turn the wheel with a controller so cars would plow like GT4 if you used full joystick input.

            >where if you get on the gas too hard instead of sliding the car just doesn't accelerate at all like the clutch is slipping
Are you sure it's not fucky differential settings on some cars?

Well it torque dumping to the inside wheel would make sense but it doesn't really do that right, I'm pretty sure both tires smoke, and motorcycles don't have diffs. Like the TT license tests are so infuriating because you get the tiniest bit of spin and on an actual bike it would probably help your drive off but in that game it's like 0.3s just farts itself into the abyss instantly.

I never played TT so I avoided commenting on that, but it feels like forced traction control, right?

5's simulation steering option makes the steering behave pretty close to the way it does in 4, but since it's set to the non-sim option by default you'd have to go out of your way to make this happen.

Only on this contrarian shithole. The only thing 3 has over 4 is the better camera

This is a minor point, but the quicker and more streamlined menus in 3 are much better than 4's. The car dealership and tuning shop menus are a mess in 4, along with the unnecessary installation time for each part.

For the time GT2 had more realistic physics but by todays standards the physics are not that good. GT1 has exagerated drift physics which are novel today. At the time the hope was to just make GT1 with a lot more cars and tracks, the new tracks and cars were great along with the engine sounds. They added detail was too much for the ps1 in areas, the 3d wheels looked worse depending on the angle and made the game slower. The graphics in general have more clipping and are less solid but are very detailed.

GT3 has that boring feel with the physics. GT3 just feels like controlling boxes with wheels.

I still think 1 has my favourite simcade style. Exaggerated drift physics and cars that are always on the edge, but are also super grippy thanks to absurdly strong downforce and tyres.

Objectively 2 because the only thing it's really missing is SSR11, subjectivity is where 1 has an argument. In 1999 no one was ever going to pick GT1 over GT2, it's only going backwards where both games have been surpassed in physics, graphics, and content so other things may be an overriding concern. (except GT2 also has a lot of weird cars and unique tracks that never made it into another game)

      >In 1999 no one was ever going to pick GT1 over GT2
To be fair that applies to almost any sequel when it came out. In 1998 no one was ever going to play RE1 over RE2 either but that doesn't mean the first game isn't as good

2 has a worse performance (non-issue with emulators) and a more boring "feel" to it, but it's just more complete as a game and a better simulator.

        Fascinating.

If I may ask, does the pattern continue?
        Is GT5 better than GT6?
Is GT Sport better than GT 7?

          >Is GT5 better than GT6?
Not them, but GT5 is better because you got more stuff to do in it, like endurance races and special events. Also, tuning still plays a big part in the gameplay, unlike 6 which you can playthrough without any tuning till the very last races. Just be aware that the original release of 5 was messy and the best versions are XL and Academic that feature more content and better loading time. GT6 on the other hand has the most number of cars and courses, but so much less to do. I'd say GT6 is more arcade in comparisson, since it doesn't feature endurance races and tuning isn't as important as it was in previous games. Most races take 5 minutes to complete and the longest is 30 minutes iirc. Still a pretty good game, though, but I'd definetly pick 5 over it.

I know I can't plat 5 anymore but I still have fun with it tbh. My only problem right meow is the Behemoth 24hrs of Nurburring.-sp. I already did Lemans and getting lv40 A-spec offline was a real *gamerword* Wanna know the worst part? I already did 24hrs of Nurburg already and it gave me a car I already have and dispite it being F1 cannot race on F1 race. So I had to do it again, oh? The best part? Was 8hrs into race major T-storm knocked power out, I try again a few days later and power cycled thru, electronics turned off. All that for a 1 and 3 shot of getting a car I might be insane going for all golds. Lmao

Yea I want to second (or third, or fourth) the opinions in this thread that gt4 had really unsatisfying physics. Shame because the content was great.
