lol what did you spend $300 on? Did you listen to Ganker?
What switches did you use btw?

I'm using Outemu Silent Peach V2's right now. Sound about the same as a membrane to me, maybe a little quieter.

I used Boba U4 which are pretty much equivalent to the cherry silent reds in terms of silence, but are tactile and feel better.

Did you not fill the hollow areas of the case with some foam to suppress the resonance? Your laptop is so quiet because there's not many empty sections for sound to ping around.

Yes n, I bought all the fricking foam... polycarbonate plate, gasket mounted, etc.
Still way louder than the membrane keyboard that I settled on.

              >tactile
Doesn't that defeat the point of silent switches? It makes a noticeable sound that makes sure you know you clicked a certain distance. Never used a silent tactile switch though. After hearing what regular blue switches sounded like I stay away from tactile switches in general.

I figure you have tried silent linear ones already, but if you haven't maybe give it a try.
I figure a good membrane can rival it though. Even cheap no name membranes are ok sound wise in my opinion.

I imagine you're thinking of the "blue switches" which are designed to make an (annoying) sound.
The linear (bobagum) and tactile (boba u4) are both equally silent, bobagum might have been a tad quieter but the difference is not really that noticeable unless you're really concentrating on listening.
I already min/maxxed as much as I could, mech keyboards just suck for silence.

I got an 'mx keys' keyboard, it's about as quiet as it gets for a membrane.

I'd say any linear switch with like 1-1.2mm actuation distance is perfect though. Really depends what you're looking for. Might even want a greater actuation distance if you are constantly misclicking.

There's super quiet linear switches and some not so quiet. Doesn't really make a difference though in game.

Cherry switches sucks. Go get a hotswappable boards and put aftermarket switches in.

For competitive gaming, it's recommended to use linears, because they're very responsive.
Personally, I love the feel of clickies, but they can be really loud, so I get a slighty expensive boards such as Q5 Pro and I use something like Kailh speed bronze to get the clicky switch feel while keeping the noise to minimum.
Even if you don't like custom keyboard autism and prefers gaming keyboard, you can always get something like Blackwidow 75% or one of those Hotswappable ROG boards. They feel pretty premium out of factory, and a good entry point for someone who want customization without delving too much into custom keeb rabbithole.

Optical for life though unless you care about typing accuracy.

They will to keep up with all the competitors but .1mm actuation is pointless. You'll breathe on them and they'll activate. .5mm minimum is plenty and that's still too low of an actuation point for me.
It already has the reset .1mm in terms of letting go and be able to activate it again which is more important.

Heaviest linear you can afford is the only one that's relevant. Everything else is you getting scammed.
    >ultralight
You're not good enough at anything to derive theoretical (emphasis on THEORETICAL) performance from having to apply .00000000000000000001 less pressure to press the key. This will mostly consist of you getting frustrated accidentally pressing keys until you get used to it, where you'll just be where you started.
    >tactile
Worst thing ever for gaming and not really useful for the small amount of typing you do, even as a coder (you stop and think most of the time.) Maybe some competitive touch typist (is this a thing?) would derive benefit from it. For 99% of people it's just a nerd flex.
    >clicky
Pay more money to make keyboard obnoxiously loud. It's like those teens that purposely make their car brap louder but gain no performance benefit. It's stupid when they do it and it's stupid here too.

If you don't have a BIG ASS BACKWARDS L SHAPED ENTER then you are less than shit. And no, before you say it I don't mean ISO you moron burgers.

the peak layout is rare enough that there isn't much selection for that, or I would consider it. It's lonely at the top. Anyway, losers game in the dark so it's not necessary anyway.
