Which would a dragon that hoards books, scrolls, codices, etc as his treasure be more likely to do:

>a. Allow adventuring scribes to make a copy of a book in their hoard since the dragon gets to keep the original anyways
or
>b. Aggressively prevent adventuring scribes from making copies as it “devalues” the original

He would try b) but would likely get bullied for being a nerd dragon who can't even establish a proper hoard.
Then after he's slain there would be the discovery of his hatchling porn collection.

Also B fits more with the trope that dragons represent the unrepentant greed of the wealthy and need to have and hoard more and more.

I don’t think either. The former seems too generous for a dragon, and the latter seems too abstract a notion for a dragon to care about (unless we’re talking Shadowrun dragons).

I think the dragon would allow adventurers to read or copy from his horde *if* they bring new things to add to it as tribute. New plays or poems or dry but important things like a port’s log of goods get a few hours, journals by famous people and “lost” works get a few days, and ancient grimoires of forbidden knowledge gets you as much time as you want and a favor from the dragon.

          >You can't just talk about generic fantasy concepts because that would be breaking the rules.
"No racism outside of /b/" is also a rule. The text of the rules itself means nothing if they're not enforced, and talking about generic fantasy concepts is as core to /tg/ as racism is to 4chan.

Dragons are a fairly constant theme across most games, like elves or dwarves or rogues.

Wizards get a special exception because they tend to vary a lot beyond "do magic, usually learned, often mysterious".

    A. For the price of a new book or scroll + an additional copy of what they are copying. More copies means more books and scrolls to collect, different editions. I've got this scroll written by sir magnificent himself sealed away!
It would be a very bad day if the dragon ever needed to use their breath weapon to defend the hoard.

Beings obsessed with knowledge are normally also beings obsessed with being the smartest in the room.

You don’t stay the smartest by loaning your books out.

    C. The dragon hoards knowledge itself as treasure. However, being learned, they are not unreasonable. Provide them with a written work of equal intellectual value, and a copy of the requested item may be provided.

Dragons aren't dumb enough to care about physical NFTs which means it's hoarding books for the contents and knowledge that isn't shared or used is worthless. Repositories of knowledge have value. Lost works don't.

      >knowledge that isn't shared or used is worthless.

It is worth just as much as gold that isn’t shared or used (you know, that thing dragons are famous for hoarding normally?)

Dragons hoard gold to sleep on and because it's shiny. Don't be an idiot.

Who the fuck wants to sleep on books.

Disregard that I've written a character that got trapped in a magical library under preservation magic and ended up sleeping on books for centuries. Also, in fairness, she went insane.
