There are no JRPGs as good as some of the best American CRPGs (90s was a literal goldmine for WRPGs)
There are no Japanese dungeon crawlers as good as Ultima Underworld. Old SMT comes close but only barely.
There are no Japanese action games as good as the peak of American shooters. (Doom, Duke, Blood, SW, Quake, Half Life, Unreal, Turok, Tribes, the list could literally go on forever)
Metal Gear (the "peak" of Japanese stealth games) is nowhere near Thief.
There are no Japanese RTS games, period. I literally can't think of any. This is a genre solely dominated by western devs.
Even VNs --a genre that is saturated with decent-to-good games-- is inferior to the peak of American point-and-click games.
Japan has a long way to go still. Fortunately the modern western gaming industry keeps tripping on itself constantly, so it's not like they're going to get any competition.
