Who does this even appeal to?

I'm a photographer and I don't really get who would buy a game about photography in an age where everyone has some type of camera. The graphics aren't even that good.

Yup. That's the thing: the OP cannot fathom why people who work a terrible day-job would want to come home and relax in a nice looking virtual world, simply taking photos.

"I mean, come on, DOESN'T EVERYONE have the luxury to be a photographer like me?"

OP here. Even when doing a grueling manual labour night job, I was doing photography. You know that once you have the camera it is free to go outside and takes photos right?
The real world is much deeper and more interesting than this game would ever be. Only a turbo autist who cannot physically leave the room or a cripple would like this game

A real camera costs $2k starting and anything below that won't let you do any photography. Point and click is not photography no matter how much your manual labour-damaged brain copes about it.

You obviously don't care about your "hobby" if you don't seek to constantly improve. Isn't that the point of a hobby? An artist doesn't just draw straight lines all day

        >You obviously don't care about your "hobby" if you don't seek to constantly improve.
No that's called turning a hobby into a job, and it's a great way to not have any hobbies

You can be good at something without monetizing it, moron. And who the frick gets into a hobby and doesn't want to improve so that the hobby is more enjoyable? Yeah, go play tennis and never learn how to even hit the ball.

It depends on the hobby though, at least if you replace constantly with continuously.
For example. I fence. Getting better at fencing is an important part of the hobby.

So how do you get better if by not engaging with the hobby lmao?
You sound like a moron that doesn't comprehend getting good starts with being bad

              Anonymous

That's not what I'm saying at all. Some hobbies (for example fencing) you engage in to get better. Some hobbies with a low skill ceiling (for example puzzles or some card games) you engage to relax, and becoming better at them isn't part of the draw.
A hobby you don't engage with isn't your hobby.

My guess is someone got pissy that the only decent "nature" walking sim was a hunting game, so they made a photography game as an alternative.

To play around with all the controls on fancier expensive cameras

I'm an actual professional photographer who does weddings, events, and automotive photography with both digital and film cameras.
If this game doesn't let me shoot with dumb expensive shit like a Fuji 6x17 or a large format camera with hyper realistic exposure balancing which requires me to use an in-game light meter in a variety of real life equivalent locations all over the world then it's a shit and literally useless game.
If this game is just you taking photos with a digital camera and there is no variety or customization whatsoever, then it's an objectively shit "photography" game

I have no idea how this is what you got out of the OP.
I was asking who the target audience was here, since people who like photography would go and just do that. So far the only people who gave good responses to that question are:

      read the blurb
      >sim game
      >upgrade gear
      >sell photos to magazines
it's for people who want the minor dopamine hits of upgrading things and completing tasks, the photography aspect is secondary

I don't get paid for my photography, I don't even have an instagram or anything I post on. I do it for myself. People can draw too without needing a commission.

    Photochads, we WON.
But honestly, hopefully this game will include a decent in game economic system, possibly even a marketplace to buy and sell gear. At least last of the pleasure of photography as a hobby comes from geargayging.

I have no issue with simulators that simulate mundane things, but I have a hard time believing the graphics and variety in this game can be good enough to make the activity interesting. The Steam trailer certainly didn't convince me. But I understand it if the main point is to play with the camera technology and learn how different lenses and stuff work, rather than the environments being something really worthy of being photographed.

Has anyone played that? Are there any other gameplay elements other than taking photos? For example, can you die form falling a cliff or get bitten by a snake? Can you damage or lose equipment running away from a tiger? Do you get money/rewards that you use to explore further?

    Sounds like a nice concept.

I can't speak for that simulator since it seems to be wildlife photography, but I have always had an interest in portrait work. I would love to go around taking photos of strangers, but I don't have the guts to ask (or not ask). Photo mode in video games has always let indulge this fantasy.

Does this teach you about photography, how to beat use fancy camera features, and stuff?
I have a powerful PC, enjoy pushing the hardware, seeing what environments modern designers are capable of, the rendering, etc, and I feel like I could be good at photography if I knew more about it. So maybe it's targeted at people like me?

You might be a teenager seeing a student project for the first time.
Even if its not a student project, its an addition to someones portfolio.
Even if the game someone makes is absolute piss, its something that'll have taught them something useful for later.
Everyone can make games and call it a finished product now, we have enough people alive now to know this and follow through.
in the end, isn't that one game more than you've made, anon?
