      >its all beyond repair. we are guaranteed a lost generation
This has to be by design.

It doesn't seem like there is any reason to keep PC and console gaming alive. Dedicated hardware will continue to go to the wayside as Phones and streaming get more powerful. Talent and customers don't want to move on because of attachments to the old medium of the media. Controllers, TVs, consoles, disks. People on this board is smart. I don't need to spell it all out to you.
So the only thing left is to strangle the console market to death in its sleep. No more "nostalgic" fans caught up in physical tactile gaming. Just full on mobile and VR streamed games. Mobile and VR media promise so much money that the money you lose in the short term must be dwarfed by just a few cash shop horses can make in the future. Why wouldn't they hurry up and groom the next generation of "gamers" to forget all about consoles and name brand studios?

      >subway surfers made 155 million dollars in 2022
      >Halo Infinite has made approximately $98 million
These people do not care about "gaming history". They've been promised yachts in Monaco, and they'll get them because every thridie and tween with a phone will pour 100s or even 1000s of dollars into a game like subway surfers to get a sparkle pink skin or sound effect.
Of course I'm just saying a bunch of shit people already know. Other people can probably put it better than me. It turns out people want a $25 unique sparkle pony skin attached to their accounts because they are the digital equivalent of a furry.

          >No, I think that microsoft is just incompetent and years of mismanagement and frick ups ended in them just giving up.
I wholeheartedly disagree. Whenever someone fricks up close to us, we always assume they are malicious. Whenever someone further away and higher up in authority fricks up, we always assume they are stupid. Its too easy to dismiss this stuff as "Aywe yeh mate day dun stooped big on now roit I tell u wat". If they were truly as stuiped and incompetent as we want to believe they are then their companies wouldn't exist. Yeah, I get that is a controversial take, because the only thing we've seen in the media critiquing them is about "how stupid they are". And its easy bait to take, but there is so much more going on there and ignoring all of that to just say "they're dumb" is a copout to some other questions that are probably worth asking. Somewhere, at some level someone knows what they are doing and why. And they are probably the ones benefitting the most.

Doesn't matter. If you think they are dumb, then you can stop there and stop asking questions and go right back to thinking what you want. Which is probably "I'm so much smarter than everyone else". Or you can start asking real questions. There are dumb people, but not all of them. Some are useless idiots but they are serving their purpose if its stopping you from even asking real questions. You get your ego headpats, and whoever is telling those other idiots what to do everyday so they can make billions of dollars gets their billions of dollars. Someone somewhere knows what they are doing and they're making a lot of money off of it. A few idiot "MBAs or executives" doesn't change that.

                >every single MBA or executive in every company has a 80iq or lower
                >Somehow their companies still don't collapse
Your math doesn't add up. As much as you hate these people or their companies, they still manage to make bankroll every month and go up and to the right. So they have an excuse. I don't see an excuse for thinking the people who are running successful companies and turning profits aren't capable of doing either of those. You might not agree with the definition of success or the methods of wage growth, but maybe that is why they are C suite. I'm not even saying its fair. Just that there are probably way more things out there most people aren't aware of and will never be aware of if we keep falling for the "Well they are just stuiped" bait.

the smart programmers aren't making videogames, they're working for basically every other industry (hospitals, military, finance, actual tech) that will pay at least 3x more.
If microsoft wasn't publicly owned then some other their top talent might look over the videogames division but this is insane moron world. the more intelligent you get the more you realize this.

Definitely. And I think they want the smart AND passionate programmers out. Passionate nerds can be difficult people to work with right? It wouldn't surprise me if they didn't mind driving people out like that. From a company perspective dealing with them must be a pain. No matter how much we may like them. I'm thinking of people like Samwise or Julian Jensen. Julian might be a great great example of it. Great programmer, but very hard on his thoughts and principles on design. He must be a modern company's nightmare. good point

Yeah, everyone knows gamedev is shit and I guess developers finally figured it out. They won't get competent people anymore.
Back in the day, you might at least have creative control and get to make something historic. Carmack left his mark on the world. But why would you want to waste your life making corporate slop which will be forgotten in a year? At least when you do the same thing making shitty business UIs you get paid well with much less demanding hours.

the problem with gaming is that it was attracting people who wanted to dev as a lucrative career and not people who were passionate about what they were doing, and because it became lucrative for these passionate studios that found huge success, the marketing and corpoisraelites got involved and starting kiking everything up like they always do. games will ironically only get better as AAA slopfests continue to fail, developer pay gets lower, and "muh career" normies hemorrhage from the industry.

I mean you make a good point: How could people so fricking stupid be in charge of these companies? It HAS to be malice at some degree.

But I don't thikn it's to every degree. I think they believe they're making the right business choice because reality to the is just numbers on paper. It's not products, it's not services, it's not people, it's not creating a product people enjoy and buy. It's a pure math formula of "If I put this much money in, based on previous trends, I get this much out."
And this is such a moronic way of looking at reality, even in fields that ARE hard-math and science fields, that it results in some of the most moronic people imaginable being promoted to the top of these companies based on arbitrary skills, qualifications, and yes- malicious factors like nepotism and bribery.

        >This has to be by design.
        No, it's not.
Xbox genuinely put all of their eggs into the live services and mobile streaming basket. The Xbox One and the Kinect was the decision from on-high at MIcrosoft, and Mattrick was just the spokesperson delivering the bad news.

When it blew up in their faces, they quit trying to understand video games. They came to the conclusion they could just buy their way to success like they have with every Microsoft product before, and that's why they've been lost and adrift. Apparently, people's tastes are more expensive than what Microsoft bargained for.

console gamers (which includes PC) are not phonethirdies. sure you can make money off turd worlders shelling out money hand over foot if you hit the jackpot, but 99% of phoneshitter games fail miserably, and console gaming is on its own still a multi-billion dollar industry and developers and corporations would be extremely foolish to ignore that. the problem of course is that console development has become bloated with useless make-workers and filled with ideological propaganda, and it will never be profitable as long as they keep prioritizing their ideology over profits and what consumers repeatedly say and show that they like and dislike.

Why can't they just hire people who fricking know about and care about fricking video games? Why do they hire these fricking suits to be moronic video game CEOs who don't know jack shit about the product they're selling nor have a sense of humor in anything, at all? You need a sense of humor to sell entertainment products to some degree.

Instead we get airheaded bimbos who are hired because their skin is brown and has no value as a manager nor as a PR spokesperson. If they're going to be a puppet, at least get a lovable one.
