They have a song from chrono trigger but no stage.
That's not me predicting Crono, I just find that fact weird, I don't know what stage it even plays on.
Think my favorites to see at this point would be other N64 characters, but from there I don't have a stand-out pick. Juno, Paper Mario, Glover, Gex, Rayman, and Joanna Dark all seem reasonable.
Could get weirder and go for like, Buck Bumble, Jack from Harvest Moon, James Bond
Doubt they'll go there but there's also a ton of great PS1 characters that would look good in the style. If Sonic is allowed there's no real reason Crash isn't, aside from Crash not being in official smash. Cloud probably has the best shot out of a PS1 character but it'd be lame if he was just a backported moveset.
There's also come you could pull from IPs already there, like a DK64 Kong, Ninten, Skull Kid, Geno, Eevee.
I hope we don't get any more backports, but if we do, Peach, Snake, Villager, Rockman, Pac-Man, Banjo, and Rool are the ones I'd like more

There's a (not 100% consistent) trend of the added characters having items in their moveset or just being fast and having good combos. That at least makes enough sense to me for why Sheik but no Zelda. No Peach is sorta weird though.
Should also be noted that the first version of this only added characters that could be really similar to base-game ones, namely Doc, YL, Ganondorf, and Falco
Hopefully no more Rareshit. Conker ruined this mod and I'm tired of pretending he gets a free pass just because of the aforementioned Rareshit, and for not being in a Smash game.
Why are Dark Samus and Lucas in there? I thought the point was to only include characters that would have been around when Smash 64 was originally out.
In early development the smash remix team was mostly doing clones to understand the engine and character creation, plus it wasn't a serious romhack like it is right now (they even have their own competitive circuit).
Not a fan of those characters but I give them a pass just on that factor alone, same for Doc, Ganon and Falco. Wolf is pure pandering to combo rats and Sonic is free attention from rostergays.
I know I'm a filthy Genogay and all but Geno really should be a character they add considering he was still somewhat relevant back then, hell to my knowledge many wanted him in 64 and Melee. Dark Samus didn't even exist but I don't mind the addition much. Of course, a most surprising pick would be James Bond
