Him
Martin O'Donnell
Yea Halo without his work is just a mediocre shooter. But Marty makes it feel operatic.
For me him and Jeremy Soule are my favourites. The games they made music for, I would not replay them as often and I have if it had different composer. I find it strange how both composers are "cancelled".
You already posted it, the best composer that is still active right now is pic related
Uematsu is still alive and only 63 years old, anon...
Yes but he isn't exactly active in the videogame industry anymore, aside from the Pixel Remaster Final Fantasy games he didn't work on anything other than videogame remixes/arranges albums of old Squeenix titles.
I misread you, I thought you said "still alive", looks like you said "active"
The bro who did the Kingdom Hearts soundtrack
Yoko Shimomura? Yeah, he's good.
bravo nolan
>he
legitimately remembered the name but not the genitals
Hideo Kojima
Ryu Umemoto
him or the chrono cross/trigger guy
skyrim guy
Him and Yasunori Mitsuda
>Bethesda literally takes the Soule away
The Elder Scrolls will never be the same again.
Wasn't he cancelled or some shit because "WRONG OPINIONS"?
>In August 2019, Soule was accused of rape by game designer Nathalie Lawhead.[37][38][39][40]
>He was also accused of sexual harassment by vocalist Aeralie Brighton.[41][42][43]
>He denied the accusations, with no charges being filed.[41]
>Materia Collective ended their work with Soule on his symphony The Northerner in response, and Soule's official social media pages were taken down.[44][45][46]
>Soule's music distribution platform DirectSong was also seemingly taken offline around this time.[1]
And just like that kino is no more.
And i almost forgot Tomoya Asano & Koichi Sugiyama. Those are the top four JRPG composers imo: Asano, Uematsu, Mitsuda & Sugiyama
Soken has taken the crown.
Keiichiro Okabe and that is a fact
For western: Guy that did oblivion
Japanese, probably OP's pic
You posted him.
He, Okabe and Soken carry the shit stain thats Square Enix by themselves
Now moving onto other genres aside from JRPG
For FPS games Andrew Hulshult might be the top contender in that area.
the dude from ff tactics and tactcs ogre
Why did square drop him from FF? Did he just retire?
He initially left Squeenix when he wanted to concentrate on his band, then he started to have health issues and decided to take a break. He did come back to Square Enix recently to help with the Pixel Remaster OSTs.
Ah i see, thanks.
He found his protege and replacement in Soken and handed the reigns over to him.
>reigns
>reigns
It's a very high IQ double entendre. The reins of control plus the reign of control. Get filtered!
Didnt he make several tracks for FF14?
the whole group of Falcom sound JDK when they were at their prime
After cold steel 2 it was never the same
For retro gaming composers from the 90s/amiga era i think Chris Hülsbeck is one of the best video game composers out there. His most notable work being on the super turrican games.
Uematsu is the John Lennon of video games.
nobuo too beat the shit out of his wife? wtf even more based than I thought
anyway tallarico deserves a mention
Tommy composed a good handful of great tracks in his day but has claimed a lot of other music and sound effects he didn't make that was just made by other composers and sound engineers he employed. Same guy that claims to have worked on games he didn't and reviewed games he DID work on on his TV show and gave them good scores while shitting on perfectly fine games he didn't. It's sad when a guy with talent still lies about what they did, because he didn't need to.
interesting, examples of games he didn't actually compose for but he still claimed to? I really like DKC and MDK so I hope it's neither of those
There's a bunch of games with music and sound by Joey Kuras who worked for Tommy's studio that over the years Tommy went from saying were made by Joey to by "us" to by himself (including the original THPS). Tommy has also blatantly lied about being in charge of sound for Metroid Prime and being "the first American to work on a Sonic game" in reference to working on Black Knight when Americans were working on the series as early as Sonic 2. Tommy even has several Guinness World Records that are complete bullshit.
This started coming to light when it was discovered that the "oof" sound effect from Roblox that was a big zoomer meme was actually from an obscure game Kuras did the sound for, and suddenly Tommy started to claim it as his own for a payday.
That said, stuff like Earthworm Jim and MDK are Tommy's work and they still rule. Again, sucks seeing a guy with talent decide to steal credit anyway. But after that Amico scam I can't feel bad.
Harry Gregson-Williams wins the best stealth game composer of all time i suppose? he worked on the Metal Gear Solid games. All of the soundtracks being quite memorable.
Masami Ueda
It's crazy to me how few works he's actually been a part of overall. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmOm5KyreRk
While Kow Otani doesn't have an extensive list of work on video games (most of his work is in anime and films) Shadow of the Colossus soundtrack is so well done that it's good enough for him to be a contender for the top spot in best video game composers of all time. One good soundtrack is enough to justify that argument.
Akira Yamaoka is best horror game composer of all time.
If anything his horror work overshadows his overall talent. The guy has range but Silent Hill's reputation precedes him. The guy can make a real groove when he needs to. I was pleasantly surprised to see him in the opening credits of Edgerunners.
Yuzo Koshiro and Takenobu Mitsuyoshi both worked on Shenmue, one of the greatest video game soundtracks of all time. Mitsuyoshi is probably the king of arcade aside from working on Shenmue, worked on all of Namco, Konami, and Sega's best stuff during that era.
Mitsuyoshi needs more recognition and more work. I really love his style and his vocals. Yuzo at least gets his due and even made one of his best tracks ever for Streets of Rage 4's opening stage.
Sega has/had damn excellent musical talent in its history. Look at the SST. And shout out to Zuntata from Taito.
These are the Elevator Action Returns and Kaiser Knuckle OSTs. Savor it.
Kenji Yamamoto that got black listed from the game industry because of the plagiarism with his DBZ music
I will say he had good taste in stuff to rip off. Stratovarius rules.
>Masayoshi Soken
>Nobuo Uematsu
>Martin O'Donnell
>Jeremy Soule
>Matt Uelmen
>Keiichi Okabe

>Motoi Sakaruba
