No I'm not you illiterate moron. Existentialism is corny shit for 16 year olds and has nothing to do with the Will to Power theme present in all of Cyberpunk 2077. You literally become a supernuman (more than human) entity via Cyberware and the endings where you die and become a legend are 10000x less depressing than the ending where you become a 'ganic normie and live. Camus would dismiss the reckless abandon and pure ambition of V. as pointless or 'reactionary'

I get why you feel Cyberpunk 2077 is underwhelming. The hype was off the charts, so when the game didn't live up to those sky-high expectations, it was bound to disappoint. The launch was a mess with tons of bugs and performance issues, especially on older consoles, which made the whole experience frustrating for a lot of players.

The world-building is another problem. It's supposed to be this grim, dystopian future, but parts of the game look way too clean and fun, which totally clashes with the dark, oppressive vibe they were going for. This inconsistency breaks the immersion and makes the game's themes of corporate control and decay less impactful.

The endings are a big letdown too. They're all bleak and depressing, but if the story leading up to them doesn't really earn that kind of conclusion, it just feels off. Players expecting more varied or nuanced endings were left feeling jarred and unsatisfied.

Cyberpunk as a genre is supposed to dig into themes like corporate dominance and societal decay. If the game doesn't nail those themes, it ends up feeling shallow. Your point about the game feeling like a futuristic version of modern-day California is spot on. If the world feels too familiar, it fails to pull players into a truly immersive, alternative reality.

There was a lot of potential for an awesome, immersive experience, but the execution missed the mark in several key areas, leading to the disappointment you're feeling.

Allegedly, in the previous draft for Phantom Liberty, there were two endings, including the one where you end up on the Moon with Songbird. Also, Songbird was supposed to be your ride or die waifu all the way through. But then the devs realized that this is not "morally ambiguous" enough, because why wouldn't you pick Songbird and her ending every single time if there is no downside to it. So they removed it and made Songbird into a much bigger shithead than she was originally.

Jesus it's likely the only DLC they're going to put out why not give players what they want for the last outing? So what if it's like the anime, but you actually go to the moon with your waifu who you liberated. That would be fine. But no. Bullshit sequel hooks or whatever.

          >why can't the netrunner equivalent of a crackhead be my faithful waifu?
To be fair, Songbird in the first draft and Songbird in the final version of PL were very different. Songbird in the leaked first draft was such a trooper, that player had no incentive to go with Reed, because that was the obviously "evil" choice. She reveals to have saved Reed previously, she never lies to you, she never betrays you, she gives you what you want, there is no real reason not to go with her, unless you really like glowies for some reason.

            Anonymous

Looks like the draft got changed for the better, then.

That ending was ridiculous. The devs are so obsessed with the idea that V and the player must be egotistical morons that the idea of a neutral ending is out of the question for them. Instead of the ending being neutral, it's grimdark and actually fricking idiotic. V goes to Night City lacking cyberware, and he doesn't think about bringing a gun? Seriously? The first thing he would've done in Night City is get a hotel room, buy a gun and shoot any motherfricker who starts shit. But no, he heads straight to the worst part of town and gets beaten up by thugs.
I understand Panam cutting contact with V, as moronic as it is, because you can't have the ending be too overpoweredly positive.
In general I hate that this ending exists because it cheapens the impression I have of the game.

I suspect they wanted the coma to last a lot longer than 2 years, but couldn't be bothered to make aged up versions of all the required character models.

He was a scary fricker and you couldn't really beat him in the tabletop, if Smasher showed then it was time to cut and run.
In tabletop you just kinda had to hope you remembered EMP or has some really good hacks because otherwise Smasher would frick you up.

The final mission of the tabletop was actually the Arasaka tower, and Smasher was always waiting for you on the rooftop to act as the final boss. You had to either kill him, or at least incapacitate him enough because otherwise he just shoots down your escape chopper and you are fricked.

Your adventures in NC and the people you meet are a part of a young man's ridiculous chrome dream to become a NC legend that will eventually come to an end one way or another. PL ending is the best deal you can get out of your situation. Realistically, V only has these choices: Its either grow up and choose to live like the rest of people, or die chasing that neon dragon
The normiest ending(and probably the canon one) is the one that you go to the moon station. You live, you are still a chromed up god in NC, meaning that you can still repair bridges with your "friends", and Johnny gets his closure. Pick that one if you dont like the rest.

      >the Sun

It's straight out of Faust: you obtain everything you ever asked for (before the Relic heist), and it just makes you more desperate to get back what actually matters (a body that isn't on its last legs).

You're even more of a brainlet: the Tower, much like the Devil, asks V whether there are sacrifices worse than death.
Considering in the Tower you still have Mr Blue Eyes messing with you (try paying the robber and see what happens), it might even be a worse deal than giving your soul to Arasaka.

        >Considering in the Tower you still have Mr Blue Eyes messing with you
This is your assumption right? You have been out of touch for 2 years due to surgery. Everyone in NC considers you dead, and you are chromeless. You are pretty much useless for him.
I think Blue Eyes was in PL mostly for Songbird. If you take the Tower ending, Songbird lives and probably becomes Blue Eye's puppet.
        >sacrifices worse than death
This choice does feel like death, but in the end of the tower ending, you see V throwing a smile onto the camera, meaning that its not really over.
I guess V had an ego death with that surgery and has to live with that for the rest of his life. Now what this new life will bring to V, its up to anyone's own head cannon.
Me? I won big in Stockmarket during my time in NC, so a luxurious, chill life of not giving a frick, is my V's future.
I think someone from CDPR(maybe it was the scenario writer, I dont remember) said that living in NC is like trying to survive and in the end its all about making in in one piece, despite of the city's numerous promises of extreme pleasure and glory.

His eyes turn blue because he's receiving payment, the same thing (eyes turning blue for a moment) happens often whenever characters do something remotely. This is not an indication Mr. Blue Eyes has anything to do with the situation

This guy gets it. Cyberpunk is pro-glory.

Only a massive pseud would focus on it so much since they are getting second-hand accounts from his work, including the ones that didn't know that The Will to Power book was partially fake.

For a long time people assumed that last book was legit. A few years ago I was chatting with one of the Wisecrack writers and he didn't know it was a forgery. He also didn't know that Indians were racist as hell which was funny.

It wasn't normies but actual scholars. Having the last book from Nietzsche being focused on that concept gave it a greater importance, when in reality he just saw it as a fundamental force of nature and didn't discussed it much in his later works.

Achilles' pursuit for glory led to his folly.

Ultimately, according to Homer, the countless warriors who fell at Troy served the wills of the gods, similar to how V can end up being a pawn of Arasaka, Militech, and Night Corp (if you believe the theory that MBE works for them).

Achilles rejected glory over and over again in the Iliad, and even regretted his actions while in the underworld during the Odyssey. He only rejoined the battle after his gay twink lover died.

Achilles refused to fight because he democratically elected basaleus wasn't holding up his half of their social contract. Achilles (like all ancient greeks) was fundamentally a mercenary. Also pretending he was gay is a modernist slander and makes no sense because the thing that begins the whole story is Achilles being denied his rightful sex slave girl

The game makes it quite clear you are on borrowed time and to make the most of it. The conversation with Dex about blaze of glory or the quiet life, the whole Aldecado questline of stagnation and corpo jobs or rebellion, Judy's quests, River's quests, even some notes like the Odyssey excerpt. Its all about V facing the impossible and still rising to face it and try to overcome it.

Every roleplaying game should end with your character at max level fricking dying in battle or doing some epic stunt, just like the ttrpgs that spawned them. Nobody plays the cyberpunk tabletop and then decides to have their character retire happily with a wife and kids.

Something something dystopian cyberpunk settings happy endings are cliche or some shit. The game was hammering the idea of legacies and what you leave behind hard in the 1st act and stuck with it to the end so no matter what you choose you're going to die, the only thing that matters was what you left behind. But this is a dytopia, so it ultimately doesn't matter what you leave behind because it won't make much of a difference at all, but hey, at least there's a drink called V now...

You pick your endings at the end of the game, but you need to unlock them first. You'll always have the access to the Arasaka ending (because it's the worst one, get it?), but Rogue, Nomad and Johnny endings need to be unlocked, usually by completing their storylines.

It is possible, but then it changes the intent, and ceases to be cyberpunk. Misery is an important component of cyberpunk, without it you just have your run of the mill sci-fi story.

Honestly, Edgerunners blackpilled me on Gainax. Hiroyuki Imaishi is a one trick pony and really just reiterates on his previous work, without any progression. He does the same thing over and over again. And if I'm going to be brutally honest, the show made me realize how dull anime as a whole actually is.

The last shot of the Tower ending is V, wearing pretty plain and unflattering clothes, slowly slipping into a crowded street and disappearing into a crowd of NPCs. Its V’s worst fears come true, just in a slightly different way.

They come on to you at a set place in the story and you either say yes or no. Had a pretty gay scene where this dude you were helping out invites you up to talk and it's incredibly homosexual erotic yet apparently he isn't gay? Very weird and uncomfortable

You talking about that rocker guy Johnny knows? He is gay and he tries to frick your ass at several times. There's more gay scenes where he grabs you and almost kisses you even if you don't pick the gaymance options.

River is not gay. Which is even more hilarious, because his quest chain follows the same beats for both female and male V. So yeah, even with male V he comes off like he wants to ram your ass, but if you actually try flirt with him he actually goes "dude, wtf, I thought we are bros?". Yeah, because I guess we all set up romantic dates for our bros, right?

That would explain it kek. Didn't have time or just too lazy to change the story beats so he still comes on as if you're a woman. Should've just made him bisexual at that point, hell make every romance bisexual who gives a shit

                Anonymous

                >Didn't have time or just too lazy to change the story beats so he still comes on as if you're a woman.
Yeah, apparently, CDPR didn't intend for all the companions to be bisexual, but because the story beats are essentially the same for all genders AND the romance lines are already recorded (because both voice actors were recording everything in one go), making all companions bisexual is just a matter of flipping a romance flag in a console.
I have no idea why CDPR never bothered to make them bisexual in some patch, because that's ridiculously easy to make. I guess they were afraid of Kotaku again, because as we know, the mod that turns Panam bisexual is perfectly fine, but a mod that does the same for Judy is comparable to holocaust.
No seriously, those are the Nexus double standards.

      Anonymous

You basically follow the romanceable partner's quest chain to completion. The game goes out of its way to telegraph when the romance is about to get locked in.
And there is only like, one romanceable partner per gender (unless you want to be gay) so it's not like there are romance conflicts.

Also pretending he was gay is a modernist slander and makes no sense because the thing that begins the whole story is Achilles being denied his rightful sex slave girl

Thank you proving my point that vainglorious pursuits are a hunger that is impossible to satisfy.

I think the endings being sad or bittersweet is in keeping with the IP. The problem is that it's a little too close to reality. Imagine a chink living through the Cultural Revolution reading Kafka. Yeah it's good but given their circumstances why bother?
The US and the west in general is in decline and those of us who live here know it. Reaffirming that isn't meaningful.

Death is the main theme of the game. Johnny and V are both facing it, and their survival hinges on the other's demise. Even in the Phantom Liberty "Good" ending V's legend dies. The endings are only sad if you can't accept the reality of the situation. V spending their last moments surrounded by friends and the people they love is a victory, even if it's melancholic.

      >Cucking is the main theme of the game. Johnny and V are both facing it, and their survival hinges on the other's cuckening. Even in the Phantom Liberty "Cuck" ending V's legend dies. The endings are only sad if you can't accept the reality of the cuckolding. V spending their last moments surrounded by friends and the people they love is a victory, even if they get cucked in the end.

Either you live the quiet life or go out with a bang.(or you sell out to the japs). Only real endings are nomad and don't fear the reaper.
