If you develop unrealistically high hopes, it's your fault.
Kill hype, enjoy game. That simple.

Games as a whole are fundamentally bad and therefore can never be as good as hype would make you believe.

Why do you listen to hype? If something is announced that interests you enough to know you'll buy it when it comes out, quit looking at any news or discussion about it and just go in with blank expectations

it was pretty much what i expected an open world souls to be. what i didn't expect were the bosses being ridiculous, i was expecting das3 dlc at the most

You can literally just tell people a game is good enough times and they'll start to believe it

Was i the only one that thought ER didn't feel like a cohesive world but more like a theme park?

I have not finished my playthrough yet but the world design has consistently been my least favorite part of the experience.

Not really since every single Souls game didn't try to capture a grand scale in world design like ER attempted to do. They felt more like dungeons in semi-open setting. Every encounter and location were unique in other games since they didn't need to fill the open gaps in a huge world. Since ER reuses a lot of stuff without really filling the spaces in a meaningful way it felt more like a theme park than an actual world with a history.

not really true given there are often lore reasons for certain bosses being in certain parts. I actually found a lot of places that seemed like the devs put a lot of thought into presentation but could be easily missed if you arent paying attention. One big an obvious example being the ulcerated tree spirit in mount gelmir. The tree in mount gelmir is cut down because they are rebelling against the erdtree, the spirit that normally protects the trees is corrupted which is why its ulcerated one.

Then you have spirits all over the place that say some lore stuff, the giant swords that do too. In castles you sometimes have portraits of people which shows alliances or whatever.
The world had a lot of lore.

I have no idea what you mean by that. Maybe if it felt like a theme park i would play it more. The world is very cohesive imo but also unbearably stale which is why their open world attempt sucked ass.

An unexperienced game has infinite potential, a game you play suffers from its real limitations and shortcomings.
The point of hype from a marketing perspective is to aggressively close the deal and make the sale, not give a perfect representation. And beyond that, hype is personalized, but the game's actual experience is not.
