I do like my cheap ram and ssds, but they don't make up for how fucked gpu prices are.
At this rate I'm planning on not upgrading for at least 8 years. Surely the prices will normalize by then right? RIGHT!?
Oldfag here. Never post so this will be a long one. I’m no Ganker homosexual because I really don’t care to discuss financial shit but if you take a lookie at treasury yield bonds measured since the 70s, each time it’s radically inverse to the S&P a recession follows. Right now the difference between the market and bonds is MASSIVE yet the market has slowly trended up still. If you also look at the same chart the market goes slightly up before a crash. 2008 was an exception.
I know anons will just say muh money astrology but ceos held some massive convention a few months ago and the thing talked about other than working from home should end was a recession is coming.
The point of my post and blog is save money. Don’t fall into debt. So long as you keep your job, you’ll live like a king. This recession is going to suck balls for a lot of people for a long time. You’ll be able to buy a comfy pc while others drown in student loan or car/house payments they took on when the market was booming and have kids and then get laid off. Prices of goods will stay high for awhile even still.

They will stay the same for a bit but eventually go down pretty significantly but high enough where your average person won’t be able to afford anything. On the other hand, if YOU prepare now, it won’t affect you so long as you keep your job. Save money and you’ll be able to buy a compute probably 25% or more cheaper than they are now.
> You’ll be able to buy a comfy pc while others drown in student loan or car/house payments they took on when the market was booming and have kids and then get laid off.
Well this is probably going to be me then. Really though I only have $1300/mo mortgage and car per month, which is a chunk, at $60k a year I’m pretty sure I can’t get fired from. Could be better could be worse
You’re good….as long as you keep your job. I keep saying this before the biggest part of a recession is job loss and one reason the federal reserve won’t stop interest rate hikes and why we aren’t considered in a recession (even tho we’ve had two consecutive quarters of negative gdp this year which is LITERALLY the definition of a recession yet even Wikipedia changed its meaning). A 1300 mortgage is actually very good, anon. Rent in most cities is near 2k or much more depending on the area. And that’s for a literally shitbox.
Just don’t spend more than you can afford right now and you’ll be fine. I don’t know about this thing tho where you think your job is safe. I do highly specialized interface management for an IT healthcare company that makes billions. I was told to my face my job was too important for any lay off, but I won’t be the least bit surprised if I do get laid off. No job is safe, anon. Companies will squeeze every penny to save their stock. You are irrelevant.

The mortgage is actually about $650 with $300 on top for insurance and home warranties and things, and another $300 on the car. We bought the house at $150k Feb 2022 right before interest fakes spiked, it’s a tiny home but it works for our purposes, I’m pretty happy I made this deal when I did. plus in only a year and a half the home’s value went up $30k estimated, hot diggers

Well there’s always selling the house, really. I’ve got $10k stored up I can pay a mortgage for a few months as I sell it for more than I bought it for, would have to figure out the next thing though
When booting most games (but surprisingly not some select stuff like Diablo 4) they quickly stutter before freezing the entire screen to a black or dark green solid color, is this a sign my 7~ year old AMD RX 480 is crapping out? I re-plugged everything and confirmed power connection to the card, uninstalled reinstalled drivers etc. Will probably just pick up something slightly better than my old card to replace it, what do you guys recommend, it doesn’t have to be cutting edge just a little better than my RX 480
Depending on your location you can still luck out with a 6700 XT for roughly $250. I wouldn’t bother with anything below 12 GB VRAM even at those prices, especially if you plan on sitting on the card longer than a few years.
i have an RX 550 and she's struggling to run most games coming out nowadays. i'm seriously considering upgrading to an RX 5500 XT, and you should consider upgrading to something else too
>why are pc parts getting more expensive?
They're not. It's just that the economic system is adapting to the excessive amounts of newly printed money over the past couple of years so money itself is losing its worth and causing everything to cost more money.
Any reason why a more intensive game like Diablo IV would run perfectly but something like WoW classic will nearly instantly gpu crash? I’m wondering about directX misuse or something
Forgive me for being a blizzdrone
No I’m the guy with the probably dying RX 480, I’ve got an Intel CPU though. I was wondering if some programs were bypassing the dying GPU and running on the CPU, maybe that’s what’s happening
Yeah I have, didn’t seem to work last night but I re-reinstalled my drivers after that test when I went to sleep, will test again when I get home. It’s weird you can install the latest drivers and then when you open the tool it says there’s a new update that wasn’t included
Maybe its a frame limiting thing? Does your gpu ramp up more when playing wow?
Maybe. I almost want to see if I can underclock the card for now
>Tfw was about to start rebuilding my dying PC
This world is enormous gay! I'm stuck playing emulators and indie games currently, guess it's not so bad but there's no way in hell I can do what I want
Was going to start 3d modeling again... Time to kill myself apparently
It's the massive inflation. Everything including PC parts will keep getting 5 -10% more expensive every year.
We have to pay for the lockdowns, Ukraine war and now Gaza war.
>bit the bullet a couple months ago and went from 1070 to 4080
No matter when you buy, you will be buying at inflated prices. welcome to the new world, enjoy your stay.
>If I wait enough to demand to go down the prices will go back to normal
What's next, if we fix the economic crisis the current gas and pretty much anything prices will deflate?
The economic system is based on up only
There's no such thing as settling with less profits and not constantly increasing prices unless something goes very wrong
So start breeding and a way to colonize another planet fast because you need multiple people to pay for your pension and keep the ponzi afloat
You should consider what you actually need instead of what you want to get. Everybody would want the highest and newest, but if you wont use it the way you are playing then you might as well get something older and not as high tech. It will save you some money.
Futureproofing is an argument, but at some point you lose more by going too expensive because you want to be safe. I went from playing in 60 fps on an old laptop to playing 165fps on a 1080 monitor with everything smooth and that is all I wanted.
Kys anime poster weebtard
only gpus and mobos tbh
>only the most expensive part is getting more expensive
try to look at the bright side. cheap ram, cheap ssd, cheap aio, decent looking cases are also cheap nowadays. also most hardware has argb now
I do like my cheap ram and ssds, but they don't make up for how fucked gpu prices are.

they will normalized in the sense that these prices will be considered normal by then, sure
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Yeah but on the bright side wages will also increase to match inf-AHAHAHAHA sorry couldn't keep that one up

So you're saying I should be buying gold right now?
With the inflation we have now GPU prices will more than double in 8 years. It is never coming down unless the whole economic system collapses
Anything is better than the dumpster fire that is 2021 prices imo
>3070 costing $1700
No way, we are reaching the limit of die shrinks
cheap ram yes
cheap ssds, big no no
no dram, built with qlc flash, high heat output, will fail in 3 years or less

always post your budget or don’t bother. Most likely you should be looking at RX6000 cards before they are all sold out.
Replacing my old RX 480 looks like it’s $150, can’t I just go for the $200-250 range and be okay or am I wrong for thinking so?
Depending on your location you can still luck out with a 6700 XT for roughly $250. I wouldn’t bother with anything below 12 GB VRAM even at those prices, especially if you plan on sitting on the card longer than a few years.

>buy an expensive pc
>use it to browse Ganker, watch youtube and play games from the last century
yes
This is me except I play games from this century. They're only about a decade old.
>spent the weekend emulating 00s Java mobile phone games on my gaming PC and OLED monitor
everything is more expensive
my favourite ravioli soup in a can has gone up 75% in price in 2 years. the west has fallen
>chicken and pork are no longer the cheap meats because they're up 100%+
Clown world indeed
>used to buy a bottle of ice tea for 1.19€
>same bottle costs 1.79€ now
Westfalen has fallen
I'm still waiting on parts to drop in price
I won't bother until I can get a gpu under 500$ that isn't shit
>STOP THE HAPPENNING NOW
you are right here forever
>why are pc parts getting more expensive?
They're not. It's just that the economic system is adapting to the excessive amounts of newly printed money over the past couple of years so money itself is losing its worth and causing everything to cost more money.
>buy a console
>buy cheap keys or wait for sales
>enough saved money to buy a car

No I’m the guy with the probably dying RX 480, I’ve got an Intel CPU though. I was wondering if some programs were bypassing the dying GPU and running on the CPU, maybe that’s what’s happening
Have you tried a full driver reinstall with DDU? That would atleast rule out a driver issue.
Yeah I have, didn’t seem to work last night but I re-reinstalled my drivers after that test when I went to sleep, will test again when I get home. It’s weird you can install the latest drivers and then when you open the tool it says there’s a new update that wasn’t included

Everything is getting more expensive. But after Ukraine and Israel get their share Biden will be tackling inflation and forgive student debt.
two more weeks
Ze zog wants wants you to switch to cloud gaming so you wouldn't be able to behave like a chud

I feel like I lucked out when I got a brand new 3090 for like 1000 bucks about a year ago.
I bought it for Stable Diffusion.

Whatever.
Can't buy decent gpus without having to put up with gay zoomer rgb slop anyways
