>moving your gaze slightly lower is too much to ask from burgers
Everyone growing up with subbed media is used to it so that they don't even notice any difference. On top of that they have an easier time learning new languages thanks to exposure.
lol holy shit it's a third world MONKEY
a MONKEY trying to speak HUMAN LANGUAGE
pfffffthahahahahahahahaha!
you must love BANANAS with your tranime, huh, monkey! Lol!
look its a Black person loving first worlder too dumb to learn anything
enjoy your blackwashing culture and dubs
Pffffthahahahahha the MONKEY is trying to speak human!
Listen, you can hear it ooking like the angry, shitty little third-world monkey it is!
Its grandma monkey probably got raped by humans when they set up a human military base near its monkey village, too! Lol!
Let me guess, you live in North-North Brazil aka the US. Enjoy your zoo.
this is wrong
dubgay is on his phone or browsing the internet while "watching" at 2x speed
saved
This is the reason I pick dubs despite hating how horrible the voice acting is. I can't immerse myself fully when I have to read subtitles.
>Immersed by bad acting instead
Man...
Isn't this a video game board? Shouldn't years of gaming have gotten you to have your eyes easily be able to take in everything on the entire screen? Video games have tons of HUD elements hidden in corners and some need extra awareness so your brain doesn't even see it as extra work to casually move your eyes to take in the entire screen.
Like come on lads this is an extra normie tier complaint that get 0 screentime aside from their phone, you shouldn't be having trouble with this.
>Immersed by bad acting instead
Man...
Honestly better than having to read subtitles because even some jap voice acting is bad. At the end of the day though we all know the real answer is frick the adaptation and read the manga scanlation.

>you will never be japanese
And that's a good thing. Wouldn't want to end up a ronery salaryman slaving away at a soul-sucking job working unpaid overtime and licking the boots of my seniors.
Yes, its a struggle. I grew up watching old martial arts movie so Im used to it. Except Hellsing, Japanese VA are almost universally superior. English VA are usually poor quality and uninteresting/poorly matched on top of it.
I don't understand how this is only ever a discussion when concerning chinese cartoons. Do burgers not know of the concept of subtitles in general? Such a baffling take.
EOPs don't need subtitles because everything that is not in Japanese is in English.
When the Korean movie Parasite won best picture or something, americlaps were all complaining about having to read the subtitles for a foreign film. It literally is too taxing for their brains to read subs.
Your average npc can't read.
you will never be japanese
>you need to know the language to tell apart a women's voice and a troony voice
It's not important to know exactly what they're saying.
the constant threads complaining about localizers not translating dialogue directly would say otherwise
Seems like people DO know Japanese then
OP is just a jealous EOP
There's a difference between you reading the room listening to people speak a foreign language and someone coming up to straight-up lie to you about what's being said.
I'm kind of ambivalent. e.g. see Ye olde English in DQ. It's a different experience, but it doesn't mean it's automatically bad.
At the end of the day, my rule is "if you mess with the script, you're playing with fire. If you get burned, don't come crying like a b***h".
The voice acting industry isn't taken seriously in murrica. Most Murrican VAs are either failed actors, or regarded as such. It's somewhat similar to the situation with nurses, where morons insist that nurses are dropouts who failed to get their MD, even though nursing is a completely separate occupation
>Most Murrican VAs are either failed actors
nah, theres some decent dubs BUT most actors being justice warriors for clout just turns me off completely.
Christopher Hackney, Matt Mercer, most of Atlus casting are decent, but when you have translators bullshiting muh represetation AND I can have Sugita talking instead thats an easy 'play it in japanese' for me
Oh it's like 14 whining nerds who cares. People who think they want a direct translation don't know what they're talking about. They would hate it.
Dubgays against the wall
I like Japanese voices because they're cute. Especially the girls.
This. All the dub VAs sound like 40 year old roasties trying to act cute. I become physically ill listening to old hags trying to act like cute 16 year olds. The japanese VAs are actually believable
I'm convinced it really is just female VAs that carry the entire japanese voice acting industry, not that the men don't do a good job but as someone that is not from the US hearing what the average female character or young boy sounds like in english it's like nails on chalkboard vs maybe the occasional mildly annoying shrill because the character is being too moe or something like that and at this point we all know it's not because americans can't do better producers just don't want to
Holy shit guy break up your words into sentences. Also its not a matter of producers its a matter of making them as cheap as fricking possible so they hire janitors and randoms off the street for peanuts.
I've picked up on a lot of Japanese over the years.
Enjoy listening to the same 5 dub VAs homosexual
Look, if the same guy can do Piccolo, Vegeta, and Kuwabara and do them all spectacularly, then what the frick is the problem?
It's fine for a show only hispanics and Black folk watch, but if every foreign series is handled with the same standards then people are gonna start tuning out.
Vegeta is meh in english.
And you know what, so is Kuwabara in english.
ur a meshi
explain your reasoning
jimposters are about as idiotic as frogposters and catposters.
Same dumb preprogrammed opinions, same no arguments.
japanese v.a.: cute, post beeru photos
english v.a.: ugly, BLM/ACAB splattered on every social media, muh representation, ranting non stop (even IN GAME), THINKS THEY OWN THE FICTIONAL CHARACTER THEY PLAY
true answer: use original audio ALWAYS
The difference in attitude between jp and american voice actors is actually astonishing, jp vas feel absolutely honoured and show supreme gratitude to be playing the character, americans vas feel entitled to their character, it is THEIRS, THEY OWN this character they voice, THIS CHARACTER IS LITERALLY THEM AND MUST HOLD ALL OF THE SAME OPINIONS AND IDENTIFY THE EXACT SAME AS THEM
Crazy
No wonder americans are the most butthurt about the popularity of jp voice acting. They're used to eating shit since early age and when other countries don't enjoy same shit it makes them feel like they are not so MURICA #1 anymore. Maybe also because Hollywood is falling into irrelevancy fast, and their actor celebrities are slowly becoming nobodies. Nobody new to replace charismatic actors like Tom Cruise or Bruce Willis.
>p vas feel absolutely honoured and show supreme gratitude to be playing the character
That's called being a sycophant. Once you realize how much big business screws you on a regular basis, especially if you're a woman, you start realize the world doesn't owe you shit and that they should be grateful that you're even willing to work for them when any replacement they could get would be maybe a quarter as talented.
That doesn't justify letting a voice actor hijack a character
It does because once you're ingrained into people's minds, you're the only voice for that character that gels in their minds anymore. Look at what happened when P4G replaced Chie's VA. There's still tons of outrage over it.
As always the burger defending himself by presenting the same moronic dichotomy once again.
>well, japan might do it better, but at least we're not cucks, so we win
on a logical level i agree
although i watched Squid Game and preferred subs
Weebs coping and seething itt
I can't stand english voice actors for japanese media. I can only think of one thing that I prefer listening to the English Dub and that's the Funimation dub of Shin Chan done in Texas. That's it. Even Evangellion is awful in English. And it's not known to be awful, but I had to switch back to english subed. Most english voice actors do not comprehend proper emotional expression.
The WORST I've ever heard is the Excel Saga English Dub. Unwatchable.
https://vocaroo.com/16qgDPTimms9

accurate
you're absolutely right about the english vas but you're still a fricking neighbor
he's your neighbor?
Literally anything is better than valley girl prostitutes and old dudes with vocal fry trying to sound like young pretty boys, cope Black person.
Movies/TV/anime = sub
Video game = dub
Simple as.
Japanase language is butt ugly and the voice actors usually overact and end up unnatural
I fricking hate it
Your view of Japanese VAs is warped. English VAs often overact because the original Japanese is also overacted because Japanese VAs overact by default.
Can we agree about that white guy talking randomly japanse and embracing some shogun zen bullshit is cringe at least?
Who? Ken-sama?
i wish more VAs would overact like this
English theatrics and Japanese theatrics are different. Would be better if every nation just barred foreigners from enjoying their entertainment.
he's not wrong
watch any JP dramas (made for domestic audiences, not westerners) it's ridiculous, constant extreme close ups and overdone reactions, it's tiresome
It's because entertainment is a form of escapism and all Japanese people are taught to method act in social settings lest they stick out.
>watch any JP dramas
Yes, Kyoto film is bad, nobody is debating that, there's a reason why people watch anime instead. What that has to do with my point is beyond me however.
So what the frick does that have anything to do with translations? Sounds like you have a problem with a culture that isn't 1:1 to America which is a completely different argument altogether.
I once coached some Japanese middle schoolers how to act in English. Some could not use their eyebrows to show emotions, even simple things like raising their eyebrows to show surprise. When you learn about their cultural concepts like tatemae, it starts to make sense why showing extreme emotions become novel ideas in their media.
That's not to say all Japanese media is like that. For example, Hirokazu Koreeda's movies are grounded with little to no overacting due to the seriousness of the subject matters. It exists, it's just not "popular".
it depends a lot, some asian dramas are basically on the level of anime live action like their current #1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ifgEQCevYc but then you have always 50% of the top 10 being random romantic dramas or love comedies, since I assume asian women only watch those and nothing else
but yeah, it's not ALL overly absurd and dumb, but the most popular stuff tends to be over the top
>no witty quips every minute
>no cringy cursing to make things more "adult"
>voice actors don't all sound the same gravely manly man + le quirky bimbo or growling empowered bawd
could be worse imo
> the voice actors usually overact and end up unnatural
Typically the animators account for this and have the character match the VAs energy. Dubbed casts usually feel high school performance tier due to their unwillingness to lose themselves in the role
Dub VAs are oftentimes even worse.
What languages sound good to you?
He's Chinese and he is coping because his bug language isn't elegant like Japanese
I used to watch everything dubbed, then I read Little Busters and Clannad and after hearing so much Japanese I will never watch anything dubbed again
Play/watch everything in its native language. Everything else is objectively wrong.
>Autists can't comprehend being able to pick up emotion and intent from someone's voice without knowing the words
Must suck to have zero empathy
Japanese va are doing magic.
Eng dub in Japanese media such as anime and games is fricked up because of troony voice actors. I couldn’t stand playing Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and 3 in English so I changed to japanese voices.
I actually liked Xenoblade 1’s dub a lot. Just finished it yesterday, is the 2nd one really that much worse?
Yeah, just watch the trailer and compare Eng to Jap. It’s much worse in English. They even changed characters names in English translation but I won’t spoil it for you.
Rex's anime screams are quite bad but everything else is pretty good
DQ11 dub is vastly superior to the Japanese voices.
>dub is vastly superior to the Japanese voices
Can you dubhomosexuals stop saying this for literally every jap games? No they're not better, and they're not even good, you didn't even listen to the jap VAs, you stupid frick.
>"I don't understand spoken english much better than japanese since it sounds gibberish most of the time."
japanese VA is too clean compared to native though
Japanese natural speech has a weird pace, it wouldn't work in theatrical work unless the point is to sound as "real" as possible. Though I wouldn't like English or my native language to be spoken "naturally" either, action movies wouldn't be the same without silly and cheesy one-liners. Many movies where the actors are made to improv a lot tend to need many cuts or are just terrible, like Ghostbusters 2016.
I hate weebs so much it's unreal.
>niche JP game
>Japanese sub uses typecasting so the performance is generic but decent
>dub uses shitty nobodies who cant voice act for shit because all the good one are busy or in union
>implying you can't pick up the melodies
What if my first language isn't English either?
based. kokoro is my favorite character from the furuiverse
I do speak japanese since I'm a half from my father side, but I don't really see why that even matters since I don't get why you'd ever want to experience something in anything other than the language it was made in in the first place.
I'm a big fan of french new wave shit and Hong Kong and Taiwanese arthouse and I watch them with subtitles. Why the hell would I want to experience it dubbed in english or japanese when I could instead be hearing the actual performances.
Same for vidya, I might not be like most japanese in this regard but I always thought that most japanese dubs for american games are goofy compared to the original, the same is true for the other way around.
Yeah everything should be experienced in their original language ideally
After the Bayonetta debacle, I don't know why people even bother with English shit.
What it means is:
>The english voice acting is bad and I don't know enough about Japanese to tell the difference between good and bad Japanese voice acting so it's an upgrade in any case since I'm not distracted by bad voice acting.
maybe, still weird how the japanese VA industry is revered even by their native.
Koreans and chinks fricking loathe the japanese but they still simp for their VAs. It's part love for their previous roles, part recognition of genuine talent.
I'll give dubs a chance when engineers stop fricking up the audio mix
Play KH 358/2 on English then nip.
Anglos can't even pronnounce Persona correctly let alone the names.
I like the pronunciations and the acting better on nip so frick off, playing a japanese game on English dub is the biggest sign of a normalgay.
It's harder to tell that the voice acting is bad when it's in another language
for EOP, it is
wrong
You may not understand possible awkward pronounciation or script, but you can still hear if the voice sounds right and if the emotions are genuine. I'm so sick of this "hurr durr need to know the language" excuse people use.
>you can still hear if the voice sounds right
This. Remember when everyone was sharing the other Mario dubs for the movie? We may not understand the language, but we can tell whether or not a voice fits a character and if the delivery fits a scenario
My problem with dubs in other languages is that I usually can't tell the difference between different voices for the same type of character. For example, most middle-aged male characters may sound the same to me in a piece of media and I'm not sure if I'm just ear-blind
correct
true at the start, but eventually you can tell
based OP
I started watched SUB and I am not a pretentious piece of shit
Whether someone can tell if voice acting is good or not, really dependents on how much they understand that language and hears others talking said language. Inflexions that sound natural in one language don't make them instantly natural for another. That's why those who were born learning one language will never sound natural when speaking another, unless they spend a lot of time learning and getting immersed in it.
This is especially true for languages that aren't from the same roots, like latin-based ones.
ITT: amerimutts that cant read
I played the Danganronpa series with subs. If you prefer the english dub you are a pleb.
Outside of Celestia and Genocider Syo, every voice is meh, and they had to hire SEVEN separate voice actresses for Junko Enoshima's split personalities, while the JP version only needed one.
I'm curious, what do you guys do when you watch foreign movies or anime? Do you watch an English dub?
>Implying anons even watch anything not made by Japan or the US
>You just don't know japanese enough to tell how bad some of the performances are!
I used to hear this shit all the time before I started learning nip and now that I know it enough to comprehend speech with no problem I still think original performances are better. I swear the only people who use that argument never even spoke japanese anyway.
Plus it's not like bad japanese voice acting isn't a thing or is that hard to find; just look at all the bouyomi memes about raiden in mgr or how death crimson still gets made fun of to this day, or hell even anime like the early seasons of yugi oh and that one episode in detective conan with the real life football players
sugeeeee anon chan wa
>burgers when they have to read while playing vidya
The dub is usually SO CRINGEY that I would prefer not understanding the words and reading a translation side by side. It’s just more natural.
>people tell me to play xiv with en voices
>all the women sound like 40 year old chain smokers with a brit accent
>the dragon in EW is just a pooloo
I'll stick to the fr voices.
Always use original audio. Only morons need it in their own language. You wouldn't watch king of the hill or telenovela in a different language would you?
Unless it originally has multi language, then free choice or whichever does the least damage to your ears.
If the English VAs suck ass, then I would rather listen to another language. Then it doesn't matter if they suck, I can't tell anyway. Or turn on subtitles and mute the voices altogether.
>"Why are you playing the game in Japanese?"
>"because I like it more"
>"Oh okay, cool"
Fixed it for you OP.
A lot of English VAs are also activist homosexuals, and when I recognize them I am repulsed. They despise us, yet I am supposed to listen to their voices?
the only english v.a. I respect was Kevin Conroy
>>"Oh, I didn't know you could speak Japanese!"
>>"I don't"
English voice acting just used to be THAT terrible
>used to be
>Here's your english dub, anon!
This is some hong kong 1980s dub levels of shit lmao.
do you speak korean though?
I don't, but the Korean one sounds better and that's all I need.
>Try sub
>“EEEEHHHH?!?! ITKATAKI WA MOSHIMOSHI BAKA JENAIDESUKA?!?!
how dare japanese people sound japanese
>try dub
>"YEEEEEHAW! EAT HAMBRUG AIN'T WASSEP BRO?
Name one.
using japanese voice acting is only allowed if it's to protect yourself from hearing an awful english dub.
if you play a game that has a competent english dub and switch it off you're a homosexual.
if you always switch to JP just because of an inherent NIPPON superiority bias you're a homosexual and a moron.
I mean, now a days some english dubs are decent but some v.a. are insufferable b***hes, its not worth
Also, sound mixing suffers from people lazy work so frick subs
does anyone have a nippon superiority bias like that? I only ever see arguments for just always listening to what something was originally made in.
I don't see these vidya players going out of their way to watch the japanese dubs of american movies or whatever
I've watched some jp dubbed South Park episodes out of curiosity. Unsuprisingly, it's pretty bad and a lot gets lost in the translation. But I don't think any japanese person would call me a homosexual for preferring the original audio.
>if you play a game that has a competent english dub and switch it off you're a homosexual.
What makes English dub so special? Most people in the world don't have English as first language. You anglocucks are free to do as you please though, since exposure to foreign things like language frightens you so.
Do you not know how to read
Why is it only jp shit that gets this dumb argument about dubs anyway? Nobody takes dubs for foreign films seriously but there's an entire shitstorm when it comes to japanese media for some reason.
I've never understood why people consume dubs.
I saw this same debate with Squid Game too but that's just one show. Japan makes so much anime and vidya that this topic comes up more frequently with nip media.
It's a lowest common denominator thing. Foreign film is a bit more of a high brow thing so less morons make their way in.
calling it objectively better when you have 0 knowledge of the language may be an ignorant statement but you can absolutely call it better sounding. some languages inherently sound better than others, on top of that japanese voice actors are better trained and have different kinds of voices compared to english speakers, so if someone prefers that it's fair.
reading subs sucks though so i'm just gonna keep learning japanese
>Japanese dev makes a game with Engrish/English in mind
This is the only acceptable English dub scenario.
How are you meant to know this is the case before playing a game? It also doesn't mean the dub isn't bad.
>How are you meant to know this is the case before playing a game?
Some Japanese versions of games only have English dubs, also depends on the developer if he's a huge westaboo like Kamiya, Kojima and Itsuno.
Resident Evil games get Eng voices first, I think. I fricking hated RE8 voice acting, like why tf do a bunch of Romanians sound like calihomosexuals
games are tough to play in other languages, but movies and animation should always be watched in their original language. dubs are almost universally awful.
im esl and barely know english. i like jap voices
play using the voices from the country that made the game. it's really that fricking simple unless it's capcom or something
i play Genshin in Japanese
understandable because chinese is an awful earrape language
It's not that bad
>It's not that bad
I'll take it over the english ones
i fricking hate it. i cannot stand it
I listened to some c-pop to get more familiar with the language. It doesn't sound that bad, but it's certainly different if you expect anything like Japanese.
If I had to pick from CN or JP dub, I'd go with JP anyway because they take voice acting so seriously and act their best even in insignificant projects.
Mihoyo staff are openly otaku so it's acceptable
>game let's you change the vo per character
Say what you will about SF4 but that game has some good fricking ideas.
you don't need to be able to speak a language to be able to understand it
>metro 2033 dub
>stalker dub
Just awful
My friend started complaining to me about the Stalker 2 trailer voice acting which made the game feel "fake and inauthentic" or something, because the new guys didn't put on a funny Slavic accent.
I'm always surprised that the Metro games never get brought up in conversations about shitty dubs. I've played all three, and they are some of the worst game dubs I've heard. Maybe it's because they're slavjank games that nobody knows about, but all of them, Exodus especially, were pretty unbearable.
Dumb murric**t are all as moronic as OP?
Because Japan Devs have a weird obsession of making young women VA'd by 40+ British hags
Case in point: Alisaie and Tataru in FFXIV
The Japanese have a way higher standard to their voice acting where being a VA is an actual career choice instead of C~D List actors trying to make a living like in the west
VAs in Japan have their own variety shows and can fill up stadiums full of fans for live readings and shit, of course I'd pick Japanese for anime styled games, why the frick would I pick the english?
I'm not knocking ENGLISH VAs though, just dub-voice overs for anime styled games. Western RTS voices still play on repeat in my head after 20 years.
Isn't localization voices mostly up to the localization team?
>Japan Devs
>implying
homie they couldn't give less of a frick about the eng dub, they never acknowledge it.
>meanwhile at nintendo
>uhhhh tomorrows the release date do we have any girls working here that could do Peach's voice
>nails it
for movies/shows i will watch it in the original language
for western games (yuck) i play in english
for jap games i play in japanese most of the time, unless it's an action game without subbed battle quotes and stuff like that (although i'm learning jp now anyway so i might aswell go full jp for everything)
Catherine has a nice English dub though
>the dub is more professional and soulful than the original
any other examples of this?
Weren't some of the voices in WC3 done by Blizzard devs themselves? Pretty sure the voices for the Battlecruiser in SC and Thrall in WC3 were among them.
obviously some are, but the ones that had professional american actors are still leagues below the russian ones
I would literally listen to a chinese voice actor with lung cancer than americanized troony shit.
>Japanese game
>Huh! Hyah! Toh! Ha!
>English dub
>GRR! YEAH! TAKE THAT! YARRGH! EAT THIS!
>tfw playing games in Arabic
it's so rare to have game dubbed in that language that I have to play using it everytime especially for second playthrough
The West can not and will not understand "moe" because anything characterizing younger characters or the notion of cute is inherently seen as pedophilia.
Non-English Western dubs can sound decent even with cute girls. I've watched some alright Italian dubs.
Could also be that some languages just are not "cute" no matter who voices it. I have a hard time imagining a Dutch dub as anything "cute" because of how the language sounds.
>I have a hard time imagining a Dutch dub as anything "cute" because of how the language sounds.
I actually feel something remotely similar with any language that resembles Spanish. It sounds so unintentionally melodramatic and silly, I just can't take it seriously.
I'd probably need a machete to my throat to ever take the language seriously.
we need someone with no shame like melonpan or chris chan to testify before congress with waifu infographs to show the boomers true cuteness and melt their rotten hearts
Chris-chan will only hurt the cause.
melonpan would make a great culture embassador
Frick no, get a real otaku up there
>my opponent, John Johnson is a reigay. a vote for Jack Johnson is a vote for an America that knows Asuka is best girl.
I don't speak it but I've listened to enough Japanese throughout my life thanks to anime that I can understand about a quarter of what is said without effort.
>I hate subs because the text distracts me!
Can these people actually not fricking read?
incase there's some autistic weeb in here, if you could find me JP subs for 1999 HxH i'd appreciate it. don't think they exist though
don't the raw iso rips include translations?
I only watch youtube videos, it's been a while since I used a raw DVD, I forgot if it works on a PC or if you need to burn it and run it on a DVD player.
https://kitsunekko.net/dirlist.php?dir=subtitles%2FHunter+X+Hunter+%281999%29%2F
come on kid, step it up
Okay, now show me Uchuu Patrol Luluko.
FRICK
Only Japanese games I play in English are DMC, MGS and Xenoblade Chronicles 1
Are you too spastic to understand that "it's better" can mean "I enjoy it better for whatever reason" and not just "I can tell that those actors performed more skillfully in their language than these others did in mine"?
Also, there is no evidence to the idea that if you don't speak a language then you're completely incapable of evaluating somebody acting in that language. Much of acting is about expressing emotion, and you should be able to tell when somebody is doing it well.
Japanese voices on average can do some hype yelling because of all their vowel pronunciations lead to significantly easier elongation compared to English.
because the dubbed voice actor fricking sucks and cringes me out and otherwise i dont care about the dialogue so i just leave it on japanese homie
woah anon you can't say that word here unless you have a pass. you do have one right?
When I play Castlevania SOTN I play the Japanese version with the English patch. Not because the Jap voices are any better but because the English voices just sound so shitty. For all I know the Jap voices sound shit in their native ears.
Because I haven't yet heard an English dub that didn't make me throw up a little in the mouth. I mean, Japanese voice acting school is pretty bland, they have, like, limited amount of voice templates that every VA has to adhere to, but at least they train their VAs and expect them to adhere to some standard. Americans, on the other hand, recruit their VAs by leaving the vocal booth open and waiting until some nerd wanders inside by mistake.
This guy gets it. It's not that the Japanese dubs are particularly good, it's that American dubs are insufferable
>>"Why are you playing the game in Japanese?"
>>"bro, the voice acting is so much better than English"
>>"Oh, I didn't know you could speak Japanese!"
>>"I do"
>>mfw
Japanese hides the video game tier acting therefore making it better
I love how Japanese VA homosexuals claim they are sick of hearing the same 3 voices in every English dub implying Japanese voices have any variety.
>sultry 25 year old "grandma" voice
>overly cutesy/angry high pitched female voice, always screaming or whispering
>booming male voice
>effeminate male voice
Wow such variety.
At least twice more variety in that list alone than in an English cast, yes.
I'm still amazed when the voice actor for Potemkin also voices Terry Bogard, Faust, and Carmine.
That dude is fricking talented as frick.
The Jap VA industry is simply WAY bigger than the english dubbing scene that I can name a ton of characteristic voices if you'd like.
Learning Japanese so I can both understand and call out garbage "translations."
Is there something special about listening to JP voice (in a JP game) that triggers people when it doesn't for other languages? When I play STALKER, aside from one run to hear the funnay maymays GET OUT OF HERE STALKER COME IN DON'T STAND THERE I play it in RU despite not understanding any of it, but I doubt anybody would give me a hard time for that
One exception is that if a game's country of creation is China and default language is Mandarin I will 100% be switching to any other language possible, sorry not sorry
>>"Why are you playing the game in Japanese?"
Because I'm learning it. You should too.
>botw comes out
>everyone shitting on VA
>gays start shilling the JP version
>posts the zelda crying scene
>eng dub has zelda start quietly sobbing because everything's gone wrong
>jp version has zelda do the typical anime scream cry and bawl her eyes out
At first I was gonna make fun of you but then I remembered the english VA scene is like 3 men and 10 women who all can't VA for shit
people who like japanese stuff have brain damage
>t. learning japanese
used to be a subs only guy. but recently that started changing a bit. mainly because
>i played FFXIV, which had solid EN VA
>some JP VA are REALLY starting to sound too tropey to me.
not just in terms of delivery, but also the vocabulary. i don't even speak japanese but there are so many generic phrases that i've heard a thousand times. the heroes, the villains and the girls all often use them. honestly i'm starting to get sick of it. it feels rather uninspired.
that doesn't mean i'm dub only now, but at least i consider it an option now.
It's only the weebtards that are autistic about that kind of shit. Pretty much everyone else in the world watches dubbed media.
What the weebs do no tell you is why they actually prefer subs however.
The writing for tranime and Japanese games with that art style are so fricking bad, they would cringe themselves to death just by hearing people recite the horrible dialogue in a language they actually comprehend.
Bazinga!
This. Watching and enjoying tranime as a grown man is about the most pathetic thing imaginable, next to being a literal baby fricking homosexual. It's always enjoyed by feminized, low testosterone, underdeveloped not-men who can't skin an animal or replace a transmission.
Plus, Japanese acting is overemotive and moronic, and westerners don't replicate it for good reason. Our theatrical culture is rooted in Shakespeare, who was a masterclass in subtlety and conveying emotion through movements, glances, and wordplay. But the slants have bad eyes and ugly, unrefined faces, so they have to compensate by talking like morons doing a Nick Jr voiceover, yelling "OOOOOOAAAAAAA THIS RICE I HAVE JUST EATEN IS SO VERY TASTEEEEEEE."
did a japanese person piss in your cereal or why are you so butthurt
>who can't skin an animal or replace a transmission.
The apocalypse is not coming
The boogaloo is not happening
Your /misc/ fantasies will never be real and all your "manly" survival skills will never be put to use. Maybe you can impress other LARPers on Ganker, but real people don't give a shit.
Holy fricking homosexual.
No one said anything about "survival skills" you feminized, doughy, soft-handed queer.
Men hunt. Men fix things. Men leave their homes to do real work with their bodies and minds. You do none of these things, because you're not a man, and you never will be.
did your dad touch you in the bath?
He probably bathed me once or twice as a baby, though it was mostly my mother after she quit working to take care of her infant son.
Lemme guess: you were fatherless, homosexual? Is that why you turned to cartoons for ugly yellow children?
You're definitely touch you, troon
>dubhomosexual
>"tranime"
>"weebs"
>normalgays do it so you should do like them!
Yep, it's time
and?
You don't have to understand a language to feel the emotion behind it.
>used dubgays' moronic logic
>never learn english because of this
>never learn japanese because of this
>never interact with any other language because of this
>remain an ignorant frick forever who keeps spewing crap and making a fool out of himself online
No, thanks.
>give an anime dub a chance
>characters saying yeet in a fantasy setting
>immediately close tab
Not enjoying the superior American culture? Lmaoooo what a thirdie I bet you even READ! NERD!
American localizers and VAs love inserting western memes into Japanese media. They often do it with the express purpose of pissing people off, and they get away with it.
Doesn't even need to be memes, unfortunately. Really something fricked about Japanese to English "translators."
>inb4 "he doesn't know" / "that ain't a girl"
but isn't that character a girl?
wouldn't it be weird to say you sit like a girl to a girl?
it's a gender bender show where the brother becomes a girl
It's both a blessing and a curse to have English as a first language.
Would be lame if everyone on the planet knew what I was saying, but they all had also their own languages I can't understand. I'm glad I'm not anglo
No, it's just a blessing. Nearly everything that matters is in English or has been translated to English. No other language is worth being native level proficient in besides maybe Japanese.
>game is set in 2002
>game is retranslated for a remaster
>npcs start saying memes like simp and absolute legend
>signs you are in for kino
>collect Japanese Pokemon cards as kid (and also as as a adult)
>learn Katakana and Hiragana from reading the cards
>always watched subbed anime
>be somewhat cognizant of what they are saying and learn from them while also enjoying the show
>can now watch raws and understand about 65% of the dialog
>dont have to support the awful opportunistic localization industry
dubkuks cant stop taking Ls
You collect trading cards for yellow 8-year-olds as a grown "man."
You have never had a single W in your life, and your death will be miserable and lonely.
I've been learning japanese for 6 months 2 hours every single day
gonna make it bros
Japanese games are not worth playing.
It's usually about tone and cadence for me. English voice actors tend to be reserved and dead-panned.
American voice actors sound obnoxious and white. I’m not playing a samurai yokai slayer game with a dub voice that sounds like an Ohio housewife. That’s moronic
the only bad voice acting in a japanese game i recall off the top of my head is shiro-no-sho in replicant, and yes I can into nip and nip tonality
if I listen to dubs it's usually because it's a JP dub, like in case of metal gear solid, or sometimes I watch JP dubbed western shit for practice and memes, I played most of the new AC games in JP, watched breaking bad and pulp fiction in japanese etc... you almost never hear bad voice acting in modern productions even if it's a whogivesafrick dub of a TV series
>BTFOs Subgays by delivering all his best lines in the middle of a really difficult boss fight
English is the original language for Devil May Cry you dumbass, personal choice from Kamiya himself.
>Overacted hammy performances from English actors are okay if the lead dev gives his stamp on approval
Think, that means that the devs built the game around the english voices. They picked the voice actors themselves and directed them. Not the same thing in most jap games where they never consider the eng voices.
I can though.
>weebs get btfo left and right
good thread
>turns on fantasy game
>English audio is the default
>Everyone has a Californian accent
>no one can pronounce anything correctly
>experience ruined
>decide from now on to play with Japanese audio
>anons reee
>mfw
Listen to Jeritza von Hrym's S rank in Japanese vs. in English
Then you nigerinos will understand
