Isn't this a video game board? Shouldn't years of gaming have gotten you to have your eyes easily be able to take in everything on the entire screen? Video games have tons of HUD elements hidden in corners and some need extra awareness so your brain doesn't even see it as extra work to casually move your eyes to take in the entire screen.
Like come on lads this is an extra normie tier complaint that get 0 screentime aside from their phone, you shouldn't be having trouble with this.

The voice acting industry isn't taken seriously in murrica. Most Murrican VAs are either failed actors, or regarded as such. The difference in attitude between jp and american voice actors is actually astonishing, jp vas feel absolutely honoured and show supreme gratitude to be playing the character, americans vas feel entitled to their character, it is THEIRS, THEY OWN this character they voice, THIS CHARACTER IS LITERALLY THEM AND MUST HOLD ALL OF THE SAME OPINIONS AND IDENTIFY THE EXACT SAME AS THEM

No wonder americans are the most butthurt about the popularity of jp voice acting. They're used to eating shit since early age and when other countries don't enjoy same shit it makes them feel like they are not so MURICA #1 anymore. Maybe also because Hollywood is falling into irrelevancy fast, and their actor celebrities are slowly becoming nobodies. Nobody new to replace charismatic actors like Tom Cruise or Bruce Willis.

I once coached some Japanese middle schoolers how to act in English. Some could not use their eyebrows to show emotions, even simple things like raising their eyebrows to show surprise. When you learn about their cultural concepts like tatemae, it starts to make sense why showing extreme emotions become novel ideas in their media.

That's not to say all Japanese media is like that. For example, Hirokazu Koreeda's movies are grounded with little to no overacting due to the seriousness of the subject matters. It exists, it's just not "popular".

it depends a lot, some asian dramas are basically on the level of anime live action like their current #1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ifgEQCevYc but then you have always 50% of the top 10 being random romantic dramas or love comedies, since I assume asian women only watch those and nothing else

Japanese natural speech has a weird pace, it wouldn't work in theatrical work unless the point is to sound as "real" as possible. Though I wouldn't like English or my native language to be spoken "naturally" either, action movies wouldn't be the same without silly and cheesy one-liners. Many movies where the actors are made to improv a lot tend to need many cuts or are just terrible, like Ghostbusters 2016.

Whether someone can tell if voice acting is good or not, really dependents on how much they understand that language and hears others talking said language. Inflexions that sound natural in one language don't make them instantly natural for another. That's why those who were born learning one language will never sound natural when speaking another, unless they spend a lot of time learning and getting immersed in it.

My problem with dubs in other languages is that I usually can't tell the difference between different voices for the same type of character. For example, most middle-aged male characters may sound the same to me in a piece of media and I'm not sure if I'm just ear-blind

Because I haven't yet heard an English dub that didn't make me throw up a little in the mouth. I mean, Japanese voice acting school is pretty bland, they have, like, limited amount of voice templates that every VA has to adhere to, but at least they train their VAs and expect them to adhere to some standard. Americans, on the other hand, recruit their VAs by leaving the vocal booth open and waiting until some nerd wanders inside by mistake.

You collect trading cards for yellow 8-year-olds as a grown "man."
You have never had a single W in your life, and your death will be miserable and lonely.

It's usually about tone and cadence for me. English voice actors tend to be reserved and dead-panned.

American voice actors sound obnoxious and white. I’m not playing a samurai yokai slayer game with a dub voice that sounds like an Ohio housewife. That’s moronic

the only bad voice acting in a japanese game i recall off the top of my head is shiro-no-sho in replicant, and yes I can into nip and nip tonality

if I listen to dubs it's usually because it's a JP dub, like in case of metal gear solid, or sometimes I watch JP dubbed western shit for practice and memes, I played most of the new AC games in JP, watched breaking bad and pulp fiction in japanese etc... you almost never hear bad voice acting in modern productions even if it's a whogivesafrick dub of a TV series

Think, that means that the devs built the game around the english voices. They picked the voice actors themselves and directed them. Not the same thing in most jap games where they never consider the eng voices.
