I don't believe in this. I believe there's a motivation crisis. people in the 70s-90s (depending on which industry) and before had two huge advantages going for them:
- reasonable compensation for their work, in terms of purchasing power. do anything, get paid fairly for it. do better, get paid even more.
- no problems finding love as social media hadn't ruined everybody's brain yet and obesity hadn't ruined half of all women yet. so men had a REASON to want to earn as much money as they could. they had wives and children at home.

then specifically for video games there's another reason: in the 2000s games still had soul so it felt gratifying to work on a game, for its own sake. now games are lootbox gambling traps and padded filler shit to fleece hardcore fanboys. when your task is to make a soulless money extraction mechanism and your audience is framed in terms of who is the most gulligble, vulnerable, wealthy victim, it would be much harder to stay motivated. this goes for games but I guess it also goes for anything on the internet as everything online is a scam. it's like working as a telemarketer or salesman of sorts. it's not what people passionate about VIDEO GAMES would want to do, yet it's what game development has turned into. the medium died with 7th gen, horse armor, day one patches, WoW...

The developers have to make the game work at 720p-1080p on base Xbone/PS4 and it gives a lot of headroom for higher settings, resolution and frame rates on the newer consoles and PC.
With next-gen games devs target 720p-1080p on Series X/PS5 and call it a day, not bothering to optimize further because it's already playable on those systems.
Watch the video, none of the versions can maintain 60 FPS even when just running through an empty corridor.
Which means they all spend most of their time around the lower bounds of that dynamic res scale.
