Because Metroid fans are minor grooming morons focusing on le "why no 6'3 man jawed muscle woman being le epic badass in my vidya instead of le smash doll" before the crappy spanish games got released. The last innovative Metroid was Other M and the series stopped there.

"The Baby" is mentioned more in this image than it is by Samus across the game's entirety of the runtime.

        >The last innovative Metroid was Other M

        that shit was innovative?

        >What about we actually try to expand on the universe and the GF deals as seen in Fusion, have cooperation with GF troops on a mission in the mainline entry games, have complex camera scenes and try to develop Samus' character a little more than "FIND THE METROID LARVA" as well as her relationship with fellow humans after she departed bird relatives?
        >Nah bro she is METROID now, let's try to remake that one game that is so perfect any attempt at getting close to it feels pathetic in comparison.

Yep, MercurySteam Metroid games were mistakes. Other M was far from perfection, but it was NEW, tried to expand like Prime expanded in MP2 and 3. Next Metroid should have been a corrected Other M, now all we'll get are le crappy spanish indie game with "le epicly designed and animated badass and stoic Samus".

At least MP4 will probably expand on the world in a meaningful way, hopefully.

    Op, I have a problem.

I did find super outdated, the controls and the backrounds just weren't doing it for me, it felt like it needed a touch up. I went from Super to the new 3D remaster, but I encountered different problems. I couldn't stand an FPS on console, the constant scanning felt annoying, and the combat was irretating because I don't usually play FPS on console, I actually grew a small disdain for it.

Is there any hope for me, or do I simply hate the Metriod Games?

    Metroid 1 - Aged bad
    Metroid 2 - Good effort
Super Metroid - Masterpiece, played multiple times
    Fusion - Amazing
    Zero Mission - Amazing
Samus Returns - Pretty damn good, but falls short of the other good 2Ds
    Dread - Amazing

    Prime 1 - Masterpiece
    Prime 2 - Masterpiece
Prime 3 - Perfectly acceptable, but not outright amazing

    Other M - Trash

People generlly do have a consensus

This is shared by a lot of people. The differences are in the weeds. For example, I think Fusion is better than Zero Mission because it has a more compelling story, better art style and visuals, higher difficulty and SA-X as a cherry on top. I've heard some arguments like Zero Mission is more open ended and the like but honestly the differences aren't great enough to where it can't be boiled down to personal preferences.

Other M is pure shit though and that's not debatable.

The open endedness falls apart when so many pickups are only available by the time the final boss is just 5 minutes away.

the only thing wrong with Super is the control scheme, more notably the fricking item toggle being on Select

Because it's possible to both enjoy something and be aware of its flaws, which metroid fans are apt at doing.

Fusion has great combat, enemy design and upgrade pathway.
Prime has phenomenal music and atmosphere plus the scan feature is great for lore and helps remove the big "Where do I bomb to get out of this room" issue from 2D metroids.
Zero Mission is one of the best ways to play that story and improves on Fusion's control scheme and feel.
Dread had great cinematic moments and lends itself to speed runs and personal challenges.

Pros and cons are part of what actual human beings use to decide whether they enjoy the game, instead of binary good/bad (Especially when every metroid bar "Other M" defaults to "Good")

They fricked up when they retconned Samus into being the Federation's b***h. Rather than her being an independent bounty hunter. Would've been the one scenario where given her backstory it could've suited such a whaman.

Because you're basing your perception on what shitposters on Ganker who don't even play Metroid are saying about the games.
If you do that for every series you'll find no one can agree on anything because the best way to shitpost is to shit on things that are popular and praise things that are unpopular.
If you want an actual general consensus here it is
    >Super is great and the best one
    >Fusion is slightly worse but still really good
    >Zero Mission is better than Fusion but it kinda drags near the end
    >Prime is amazing and on par with Super even if they offer different gameplay experiences
    >Dread's probably the second best Metroid game
Though take the Dread one with a grain of salt since it's obviously a lot harder for me to gauge the reception to it in comparison to the others which have been discussed online for decades at this point.

Played Super blind for the first time recently. Wouldn't say it has aged badly at all. In terms of things like boss fights and atmosphere, it's some of the best of its genre

Super has definitely aged, but it's not like it aged poorly, you could still pick it up right now and play through it and have it be comparable or favorable to other games.

The more story there is in a Metroid installment, the worse it is. That's why Dread is actually reasonably good, while Zero Mission, Fusion and Other M all deserve to be discarded to the refuse bin. Prime 3 as well, to an extent.

Metroid is supposed to be about exploring lonely alien environments, none of this call of duty crap about being constantly briefed by your CO who constantly talks to you and monologues.
