My fucking library, which won Library of the Year just a few years ago from some national publication, got rid of video games. I'm still seething about it and it's been years. I can only assume people kept stealing them, but I live in Kansas so there's a relatively small number of blacks.
Libraries are usually locally owned and operated. They get some federal and state funding (usually), but all of their policies are based on the immediate community so you'll see a wide variety of services provided depending on where you live.
I unironicalliy miss going into a video store, perusing the games, and checking one out. Played a lot more games I wasn't sure about, but ended up loving (and found some that I'm glad I found out wheren't very good)
I might pick up gamepass. It's not the same, but probably the closest I can come to what I used to like. IS that the closest thing?
GamePass has a lot of lesser-known titles. Places like Ganker or gaming websites tend to focus on what's big or popular. A lot of independent devs or smaller releases get overlooked. People that only like to play the biggest and best won't really find themselves at home on GamePass. But if you like branching out and trying new things with no foresight about what you're getting into, GamePass is a goldmine. I don't have much time, but play 10 or 15 games per month out of the GamePass library and am pleasantly surprised more often than not.
they made it easier to get games with a subscription. the internet literally killed video game rental. also kids dont play video games anymore they just watch youtube and vtubers on twitch.
Everything you buy as a digital copy from a distribution platform is defined as a rental in the eula retards. With the exception of GOG, which is why most pirated games are GOG versions.
one other reason is the decrease of game related get-togethers and alongside that - way less local coop games
I can imagine those were very popular, to rent for a bit, play with buddies, quick pick up and play stuff
I doubt people rented stuff like dragon quest for a week, but I can be wrong
rental stores are no longer tenable as a profitable business model and demos exist for almost every platform now. the lone blockbuster in oregon serves as a temple to nostalgic capitalism and pilgrimage to people reliving their past as a religious experience. there are independent video rental stores that still exist. it's also impossible to rent out games with the highly speculative retroon market in current year.
Nooooo it’s a good thing you posted a frog you’re evil die die die!!!!!!! (this is how leftists think, mindfucked into suicidally locking themselves up in chains and laws and pedophelia which is a good thing!)
I briefly worked at a movie and game store in 2017. you could still rent stuff just like the good ol' days. last I heard, a lot of their stores were shutting down though. if you're in TX look to see if there's a Movie Trading Company near you
yeah ship over millions of third worlders a year to come live off welfare and cutting the balls of our native children and pretending they’re women, such progress
I worked at Blockbuster around 1998-2000 (can't remember exactly) and I don't remember having any issues with games that didn't exist with movies. Granted, there was only like 5 black kids in the whole town and I never saw them in the store.
third worlder here. 15-20 years ago I could rent a game for a weekend for the equivallent of 5 dollars. As a kid/teen it was more than enough to beat most games SNES/N64 games. I played dozens of games through rental that I would never have otherwise because my parents sure as fuck werent going to pay 60+ for a game every week
alright, i just always imagined that in third wold countries they basically only sold bootlegs. like went to some eastern european country in late 90s and everything at the market was bootleg. clothes, games, movies and all kinds of shit.
Gamepass muh niggie
israelites
/thread, through some illegal and unconstitutional israeliteery we basically can’t have anything nice (that’s a good thing!) I dissgree
You already do that for a decade?
Just speedrun games on steam and get a refund
you can loan games from library and there are several digital video game renting services
I know they have dvds but I don't remember seeing games in a library.
well lots of libraries do have some games
Like you've ever been to a library
To be fair, I haven't been to one in a long while.
Some libraries even stream movies these days. They're trying to be hip and cool these days
The library in my city allows people to "preorder" games before they even have them.

Interesting. Must be a fancy library
Depends on the library, not him but mine has a selection of games going back to the ps2.

>buy new game for $60
>lend it to 3 friends
>sell it on ebay 3 weeks later for $45
>everyone got to beat the newest game for $5
Problem solved, unless you're a retard who bought a digital only console
oy vey not if i use my secret technique, DLC israelitejitsu
Gamepass exists

sad
I'm disabled so all this reminds me is when I had to ask other people to buy games for me so I'm glad Steam came along
haha retard
don't call him that

I miss the smell
Redbox. I rented Spider-Man and Detroit from it. Not many of them have games anymore though.
Almost every gas station or Walmart has this.
Where can I rent non-PS5 games though?
redbox stopped game rentals years ago because people kept stealing games
These don’t have games anymore and if they do it’s PS5 only.
So they don't have games!
DOHOHOHOHOHOHO!
>open credit card
>rent movie
>cancel credit card
>free movie
>Good Goy Points tank as a result of opening credit cards
Hipsters will bring this back. They did the same with Vinyl.
The last video store we had around here sold vinyl and funko pops, and all sorts of crap. Didn't help it in the end.
Video stores here survive on candy sales. I guess those are candy stores nowadays with video renting as side business
Just pirate it and delete it after 5 days. Donate $5 to charity each time you do this. Solved. Anything else I can help you with?

god damn imagine if I rented starfield instead of bought it, I wouldn't be out 100 dollars
Isn't Gamefly still a thing?
I haven’t seen it advertised in years. I always heard it was impossible to get anything recent.
Gamefly has every new release

shut the fuck up israelite
>pay money for product
>time passes
>lose product
boomerkeks unironically thought this was an ok business model
Nooooo it’s a good thing you posted a frog you’re evil die die die!!!!!!! (this is how leftists think, mindfucked into suicidally locking themselves up in chains and laws and pedophelia which is a good thing!)
You can but you have some gay excuse why this is bad
I briefly worked at a movie and game store in 2017. you could still rent stuff just like the good ol' days. last I heard, a lot of their stores were shutting down though. if you're in TX look to see if there's a Movie Trading Company near you
I don't miss blockbuster or hollywood video.
yeah ship over millions of third worlders a year to come live off welfare and cutting the balls of our native children and pretending they’re women, such progress
How come they can’t even take over a shithole with a bunch of poor sandnaggers?
You used to be able to rent video game SYSTEMS, as well. You could rent the whole fucking Nintendo alongside the games.
kino…
People actually brought shit back then, most of the time anyway.
I worked at Blockbuster around 1998-2000 (can't remember exactly) and I don't remember having any issues with games that didn't exist with movies. Granted, there was only like 5 black kids in the whole town and I never saw them in the store.
woah
Because everything is digital now you fucking retard.
Why even make stupid threads like this?
gamepass and psnow or whatever are literally just game rentals
Just pirate them you fool.
Did you guys actually rent games? Only reason I used to go to Blockbuster was because they had a 2 for 1 clearance shelf for games.
third worlder here. 15-20 years ago I could rent a game for a weekend for the equivallent of 5 dollars. As a kid/teen it was more than enough to beat most games SNES/N64 games. wouldn't buying bootlegs been more efficient? my parents usually bought some snes bootlegs or burned ps1 discs
bootleg ps1 discs carried me all the way to 2006 but bootleg cartridges weren't as common around that time for me
alright, i just always imagined that in third wold countries they basically only sold bootlegs. like went to some eastern european country in late 90s and everything at the market was bootleg. clothes, games, movies and all kinds of shit.
