did It? I just bought mine, got the cheap 64gb one and a 512 sd card, maybe I'll use for playing on the sun on my balcony a bit, also need something portable for when I need to go to the hospital to take care of my old parents,
was split between a deck and a laptop

Doesn't the 64gb model have slow flash based storage? have you noticed long load time on games? what have you been playing? i want to get one but im leaning on the 256 model with faster storage

no idea, bought it last saturday, is on the way, with a 64gb ssd games are going to the 512sd card anyway

I've been also thinking about using it with steam link

It's 2 lanes instead of 4 but not really noticeable on APU hardware, you can always replace it and probably should due to shader cache eating up space.

The key is to buy thd 64GB model and then throw at least 1TB in it for less than what valve charges for a 512GB deck.

      Anonymous

I got the 64GB and upgraded it's NVMe to a 1TB for the price of a 256GB. But you need to pry it open, I had a kit with tools that make it easier to pry open without damaging it.

Got a 1TB SD card as well for storing ROMs.

    Hi again,

I understand your motivation for going through all of the RMAs and I'm not suggestion you're doing it for other reasons. I am suggesting that your expectations on some of these units being defective may be misaligned from the tolerances that are acceptable on the unit.

A refund with the amount of playtime and when you originally purchased your units is very much outside our refund policy, but I don't want you to feel like you are stuck with something you're not happy with. The option for a refund in your situation is an exception based on all the conversations we've had. Trying to do right by you, who's so far not been satisfied with the product.

So if you would like to proceed with a refund, then we can do that. I'll hand you off to one of my colleagues to start that process.

What do I do? I wanted to buy another one to guarantee it's brand new but at this point I feel utterly defeated
I've been RMAing this thing for a year

1- rattling fan (likely bad bearing)
2- rattling fan but worse (Black folk who "fixed" it are worthless and probably left a wire loose or something
3 (replaced with second deck)- one of the trackpads was extremely mushy and oversensitive to clicks causing missinputs and had horrible haptics
also one of the joysticks grinded into the housing and one of the triggers was mushy, but I could've lived with these
4- for whatever reason they replaced BOTH trackpads and then when it came back the left one made this plastic clicking sound it isn't supposed to and didn't before, again the Black folk who "fixed" it just fricked it up
5 (replaced with third deck)- both the trackpads are oversensitive to clicks and cause missinputs, worse on the right trackpad

You sound like a gay, gay. No one is this unlucky

clearly whoever they contract to do the repairs (united radio) is a bunch of Black person apes and don't give a frick about putting the thing back together right, and I'm 90% sure any replacement units they send for RMAs are just previously RMA'd scraps which would explain why I kept getting dogshit units

Without seeing actual evidence it's difficult to judge, but this sounds like a really minor issue which probably would've gone away with use anyway. It's a bit hard to believe that you've now had three sets of trackpads on 2 seperate consoles and they were all defective.

my first deck's trackpads were fine
the second only the right one was fricked up, and then only the left one was fricked after they "fixed" it but functionally they were the same as my first deck's after that
both of them are fricked up on my third deck
clearly there is a severe lack of quality control for these fricking things

also the plastic clicking was only on one side of the pad, like I said they fricked something up putting it back together and I doubt it would've gotten better, if anything it was probably causing damage

Honestly anon, that is a far lesser problem than the other one you said you'd tolerate (analog stick grinding against housing and mushy trigger). The left trackpad is barely used anyway, and when it is, you basically never use it for clicking. I can almost guarantee this problem would have gone away over time as whatever components are rubbing together got eroded. I would have stuck with that one. This is the kind of thing I'd notice and go "huh" and then never think about it again.

                Anonymous

surely you can understand how infuriating it is to send something in to be "fixed" only for it to come back with a new problem it didn't have before, especially multiple times at that point

I didn't feel like it was acceptable for me to have to accept that or try to fix it myself considering what I had paid and gone through already
in hindsight I probably would have stuck with it out of what I've gotten so far but there's no way for me to know that they'll just keep fricking up and sending me things with problems, I mean surely the QA can't be that bad right?

Every single one of those issues boils down to "device was making sounds I wasn't expecting it to make", not "device wasn't working". And when it comes to sounds in your head, I'll stick to the Occam's razor principle that says it's far more likely that you're a mentally ill spastic that already hears various noises and intrusive thoughts and don't take your meds than the slim chance that somehow you're literally the only person in the world out of more than a million that had to RMA a device 5 times and still didn't get a "working device", and you being mentally ill is just a random coincidence and has nothing to do with it.

                >have a nice day
I don't have any reason to, I'm not the one off my meds and hearing imaginary noises in my head. Survival rate for your kind is even lower than troons, so I expect we will stop seeing your posts very soon, probably about the time your 8th or 9th RMA fails.

          >any replacement units they send for RMAs are just previously RMA'd scraps
Given that the Steam Deck happened over the whole pandemic thing, it's also possible that supply chain bullshit is behind these kinds of issues. Some parts don't stay in manufacturing for all that long because of how fast smartphone models move and whatnot, so a delay in design/prototype/whatever cycle can make it so some part isn't available when you'd need it. Then you'll have to pay double for an untested hack replacement or start cancelling orders and declare your toy EOL.

even when I did notice it it took me a long time to finally give in and accept I had to RMA it
after that when I got it back and it was even worse somehow I lost all faith in the rma process and got really detached from the thing and barely have used it since because why waste all my time reconfiguring it from scratch when it's still fricked up and I'm just gonna get rid of it again
I'm just wondering if it's even worth the trouble anymore and if I should just finally invest in a proper PC instead, but I know the answer to the is I'm not willing to and I'm just gonna buy another one

Anyone know if investing in one of these is a good idea for now? In Australia, you can't buy them directly from their store. I have to go to 3rd party sellers. Which is fine, as long as I'm not going to be fricked over by an offical release that has a better battery or something.

They may release a revision soon, but it's unlikely.
They probably won't release a new deck for several years, but do plan to eventually, is what it sounds like so far from what's been said. They want to let the deck sit and be developed around as a standard for a while before pushing out a new one is what it sounds like.

Deck trannies have no defense against this. They can only cope, seethe, and dilate when this shown, and it brings a smile to my face every time.

The Steam Deck is technically legal, but ethically an anti-MS pirate device. It harvests Microsoft's extensive investments in WINDOWS gaming and steals that value for Steam users. At a time when MS has recently been trying so hard to play nice with everyone, including Valve by putting MS Studio games on Steam, this is a product based on Gabe's personal spite against MS. I hope MS removes its games from Steam and adopts a war footing. Whether they do or not, Valve is treating this as a war and is on the offensive.

honestly doesn't fricking matter unless you for some reason want to play while camping.
USB chargers cost nothing and it has an usb port, and unless you support russia, your country has enough power sockets available on every bus, tram, trolley, train and boat so you will never be away from power.

Even then just a battery bank is a simple enough thing to do and you should already have one to deal with your awful power grid.

If you can use Linux and dont need heavier programs deck is good. It really depends on your needs.

what exactly qualify as heavier programs, or "using Linux?"

          Anonymous

Im not sure why I phrased it like that. What I meant was if you dont need windows programs the most. You can get them to run or use windows on it though so it really depends what you are doing or how comfortable you are using linux vs windows. It is a nice device and can be used as a full computer just fine. Great price to performance. The glossy screen is kind of a preference thing but I've heard it makes it slightly more dull. Here is the best comparison I've seen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jApCGIFS1JI
It makes more sense to get the 64gb one and upgrade the storage I think.

A portable device with one hour battery life is not portable lol

you're absolutely delusional if you think the state of pc gaming in 1998 has anything to do with the state of it today. Are we just going to pretend that the last 15 years hasn't seen a massive wave of moronic graphicsgays spouting "muh pc master race" bullshit while pcgaming as a whole continued to decline into its current state

              >I can't believe I lived to see the pc """master race""" saying "700p 40fps is all you need, actually"

This clearly implies that PC gaming was all about frame rates and resolutions, and now you lived to see the day where it's not, which is like I said - nothing but a zoomer fantasy made up by homosexuals whose first PC game was Oblivion.

When Starcraft came out, we didn't cry how it was a 2D game running at 24fps, releases in the era where companies like id software were already out with advanced 3D engines and games like Quake 2, we played it because it was a good game. I don't even remember a single review in any game magazines from that period complaining that a game made in 1998 is running at less frames than most SNES and Genesis games made over 5 years ago. That's what PC gaming was about, quality of games, not MUH FRAMES.

nobody, and I mean not a single fricking person used the phrase "pc master race" in the 90s. The whole "master race" shit began in the late 00s and was predominantly driven by graphics and performancegays shitposting about how they could play ports of xbox360 games at a higher resolution with a more stable framerate.
So yea that anon who said
                >I can't believe I lived to see the pc """master race""" saying "700p 40fps is all you need, actually"
is absolutely correct. When anyone says "pc master race" they are referring the people who popularized pc gaming among normalgays, turned it into a performance arms race, and incentivized devs to stop making games that are uniquely made for pc in favor of consoleizing pc games and porting console games.
The era of pc gaming you're referring to was never part of the whole mustard race normalgay movement.

This is the problem with steamies deckies who would make countless mental gymnastics cope to ensure their branded device is a gaming powerhouse device not the master race and yes its cuz only cuz their fav brand corporate/company valve made a device otherwise it wouldn't even be praised eg

      It's outclassed

replies all bashing on it even if its better than deck and

I fricking hate control layouts like this. You can't rest your thumb in the the two bottom left buttons without the right stick getting in the way. Same issue with switch joy cons. It's awkward and uncomfortable as frick. There's a reason standard controllers have a diagonal offset between the upper and lower controls

The deck is one of the very few dual stick handhelds that doesn't have this problem

claiming ps vita layout is bad and making fake ass complaints
I only bought steam deck to replace general purpose computing device which was the best budget compared to other laptops
Reminder if valve did it Ganker would praise it but if other competitors better or even competed against Gankeralve Ganker would unironically seethe and make countless copetastics shit like steamwork

Is there a reason for the sudden rise in deck bait threads? I decided to buy one on a whim last week, then suddenly a a dozen “STEAM DECK LE BAD” threads start popping up, when usually it barely got 1 thread a week. Why the sudden spike in interest?

      ?
Ever considered that valve shill marketers might have made these threads like the other console marketers here

This should've been the price from the start for mid and highest tier models and

Its the first mainstream GNU/Linux device since the Nokia N900 back in 2009. Unlike the N900, Microsoft can't put their guy in the driver seat of Valve and run the company into the ground in return for 5 billion, so they're employing all the astroturfing against it that they can.
There's also a ton of Windows fanboys who have never used anything else, and get scared of the prospect of anything being different even though SteamOS is super easy to use and developers are starting to target it meaning game compatibility is only going to keep getting better.

      1. Forced meme comparisons to Nintendo Switch were taken seriously by some Nintendo fans who therefore seethe.
      2. It's proof of the growing viability of Linux as a gaming OS, so the losers who seethe about Linux gaming naturally seethe about Steam Deck as well.
      3. Shills for Chinese handheld PCs seethe about the fact that they can't shill their garbage effectively without presenting it as an alternative to Steam Deck, because no one gave a shit about this niche market until Valve entered it and people won't click a handheld PC thread unless it's about Steam Deck.

Yes, there are games that are too old to work with Wine or Proton, but the term "abandonware" doesn't imply games from any particular era. There's Proton (Wine) for 32-bit Windows games, DOSBox for DOS games, and frankly I don't know that you would use for the stuff in between.

SteamOS 3 is built with Arch, but its not Arch for updates. If you put it into Arch mode, then you have to treat it like Arch and ignore SteamOS updates.

    Why did the PSP flop?

      Anonymous

because people were buying the console and not the games. Obviously piracy was rampant but even among people who didn't jailbreak their psp the attach rate was abysmal.
When the psp came out mp3 players with the ability to do video playback were expensive with the 1st video compatible ipod coming out around the same time as the psp and costing $300-$400 depending on storage. As a result dropping costs of the memory stick pro meant the psp was more viable as a portable media player that can also play games as opposed to a console that can function as a media player.
tl;dr selling units isn't enough you have to be able to sell games too

Can I play Way of the Samurai 4 on the switch? Can I play Ace Combat 0 on the bus? Can I play Rengoku Stairway to HEAVEN on a couch then get up and go play on the bed uninterrupted?
The Steam Deck can do all of that. I don’t understand how people can’t get how handy that is, it’s literally god tier. It used to be that I had to switch between between consoles when I’m in bed but now I have it all on one device and I can move that device around with only the cord to worry about. What are you guys missing here?

      Anonymous

      >What are you guys missing here?
The ability to think for themselves. The people shitposting understand all that, they almost all are guaranteed to to have a switch after all, but the deck isn't made by their holy chosen corporation. It doesn't matter how much better it is, it must be snuffed out precisely because they know it's the better system.

          why 256 over the 512?

256 has plenty of storage if you add a 1TB SD card and an anti glare screen protector is also cheap. Best value version tbh
But I got the 512 myself

I already bought a 512 gig SD card because it was mega cheap a while ago
I'm just a hoarder by nature and I don't know if 256 will be enough for me to be comfortable
I'm more wondering how the screens compare, I've seen some people say the 256 screen is actually better

Also a bit of a hoarder myself, got 512+256 and space is running low. Granted, I got 73 games installed on the damn thing. Might grab a 1TB SD card and stick the 256GB in my phone.
Screen quality is slightly worse with anti glare under ideal conditions, but with daylight the anti glare one is nicer to look at.

I'm also terrified of opening the thing myself, I would have a fricking heart attack if I fricked it up somehow

Its up to you. I went with the 512GB version before we knew how easy it would be to upgrade, but also added a big SD card and haven't really filled up either one.
256GB plus an SD card is probably the best option if you're lazy.

what do you think of the 512's screen?

also this is a really stupid question, but if I'm using the thing in desktop mode which the better default download location, the SSD or the SD card? I don't want to wear out the storage unnecessarily and don't know where would be better to write stuff by default

          Anonymous

          >what do you think of the 512's screen?
I think its fine, don't really have any complaints. I am impressed most by the night mode allowing play in low-light conditions without eye strain, but it also works nicely in brightly lit locations.

          >if I'm using the thing in desktop mode which the better default download location, the SSD or the SD card?
I mostly put stuff on the SD card, unless its something I know I'm going to be keeping around long term and playing a lot.
Seriously doubt you'd have any kind of storage problems with 256 or 512 plus an SD card.

I mean like, if I downloaded an anime ep or something would it be better for the health of the device to have it save to the SD card or internal storage by default?

              Anonymous

You shouldn't have to worry about an anime episode hurting the health of either.

                Anonymous

I just mean in terms of general wear on the storage by having the default location for bigger downloads being one or the other

                Anonymous

If you're worried about it, just put your media on the SD Card. I've got my media on there and haven't had issues.
Keep in mind that the SD Card gets formatted by the Steam Deck as the standard Ext4 format, which Windows being non-standard can't read by default. So if you're running Windows its not really any easier to put media on the Deck itself or the SD Card since you'll want to copy things up wirelessly.

                Anonymous

I was just worried that if I set the SD card as the default location for everything that would wear it out faster, like if I torrented a show to watch or something
if I have an external hard drive I connect to the deck through a dock and I put files on that using the deck, there won't be any of that frickery with windows will there?

                Anonymous

External drives can be whatever format you want, so that is also a good way to move files over, or access them from the Deck.
If you're super worried about wear and tear from pretty undemanding media use external drive may be a good way to go especially if you're only going to use Kodi on the Deck when its hooked up to a TV.

                Anonymous

I have an external drive I just bought to use as cold backup, I'm just worrying about this because of what I've read about flash storage wearing out with use and since I would be using the deck for browsing too I'm worried about randomly downloading images and videos and stuff to the SSD by default would be bad for it's long term health

                Anonymous

By the time you'd run out of write cycles for any of these drives, much better drives would be available cheap.
Just back up anything you don't want to lose, and keep in mind the SD card is easier to replace than the internal drive.

          >what do you think of the 512's screen?
Have you used matte displays before? I personally hate matte displays, and the 512gb models screen is just that. It's dull and fuzzy compared to a standard glass display. Some people like them for having less glare, but if you're not commonly playing outside or something then it's just a grosser looking screen for no real benefit. I avoided matte displays like the plague if I can help it

Note that either way the screen is one of the weaker aspects of the deck. It's just bad in general, regardless of model

I feel you. I personally sort of like opening consoles up and making modifications and such. Also the Deck is the most end user friendly thing ever.

But as other anons have said, a 256 with a big ol SD card will probably suit your needs if you really want as little fuss as theoretically possible.

Also Switch emulation is solid fyi. There's a current issue with Ryunix at least where you can't play full screen without it just blacking out on you, but windowed is fine.

how is piracy on the deck? easy? any weird Linux stuff?
id imagine it's as simple as adding the pirated game to steam so you can run it under proton.
is there any way to configure it so you get steam's vulkan caches, even for non-steam games?

            > any weird Linux stuff?
The desktop mode is a buggy piece of crap that is prone to crashing, it crashed 2 the first day. Also some issues like kde wallet pop ups everywhere. Using it as a pc is crappy, when I connect my drawing tablet (do pen mini7) to the deck the deck Wi-Fi gets screwed up and I have to restart the device.

This is the problem with steamies deckies who would make countless mental gymnastics cope to ensure their branded device is a gaming powerhouse device not the master race and yes its cuz only cuz their fav brand corporate/company valve made a device otherwise it wouldn't even be praised eg [...] replies all bashing on it even if its better than deck and [...] claiming ps vita layout is bad and making fake ass complaints
I only bought steam deck to replace general purpose computing device which was the best budget compared to other laptops
Reminder if valve did it Ganker would praise it but if other competitors better or even competed against Gankeralve Ganker would unironically seethe and make countless copetastics shit like steamwork

Yeah, what the other anons said, it’s pretty much the same. If you want to work with mod managers like Ryu Mod Manager or MO2, you’re gonna have to use compatibility layers like Steam tinker launch or wine. In windows terms you’re basically just running an app to run another app.
It’s a case by case kinda thing, you might have to add a line in the command prompt for Judgment, you might not need it for MGSV and so on.

The steam deck isn’t comfortable in bed, I’ve tried and my back just gets sore to the brim. I think it’s just due to the weight or something.

how is piracy on the deck? easy? any weird Linux stuff?
id imagine it's as simple as adding the pirated game to steam so you can run it under proton.
is there any way to configure it so you get steam's vulkan caches, even for non-steam games?

      Anonymous

      >how is piracy on the deck? easy? any weird Linux stuff?
Most annoying part with Steam Deck piracy are repacks. Due to their arcane compression algorithms, some of which only work on Windows, it's really hit or miss with them. I had more success with Dodi repacks, fitgirl repacks fail with me one way or another (e.g stuck installations, corrupted files etc). However when the installation is done, there are third party apps (e.g Lutris/Bottles+BoilR) that automatically add your games to game mode as long as you set it up correctly. It's kinda finicky but if you're used to playing around with game files it's not that bad.
      >is there any way to configure it so you get steam's vulkan caches, even for non-steam games?
No idea but FWIW there's an upcoming update to the Linux graphics driver that will supposedly do away with shader caches in games that run with DX11.

why bother with 3rd party apps when you can just right click to add anything to steam?

          Anonymous

Because some of those things won't work unless you have 3rd party apps

          Anonymous

BoilR automatically downloads and adds artwork for each game in Lutris/Bottles/any launcher' library and it works pretty well even with pirated games. Lutris/Bottles are useful to properly manage some games with snowflake requirements and/or easily change version of wine/proton launcher etc.

You get a portable version of cheat engine, extract it to a folder on the desktop
You use Steam Tinker Launch and go to a games properties to have it launch with STL, you then go to the menu and click "game menu" then you use "Custom Command" find the cheat engine.exe and use "Fork Custom Command" now cheat engine will open with that game

Depends on what games you play

Most of what I play runs equivalently on both platforms, but ends up looking better on the switch OLED's screen, so I tend to use my switch more than the deck. But if you're playing a lot of games that aren't on the switch or have performance compromised, then get a deck

If the deck were 100 grams lighter and had an OLED screen then it would be no contest

Having had both, deck is better and there's no need to hack it

It just serves no real market. Too bulky and battery intensive to be a real handheld. As a piracy machine, everyone who pirates games in amounts enough to matter has already hacked their much more portable 3DS/PSP/Vita or just does it on their much more powerful desktop. As much as you might not like it, The Switch being so user friendly a legitimate moron can use it, is very important to the Normie market.

      Anonymous

What a bunch of bs, deck is superior to the Switch and I say this as someone who has a switch. It's just as user friendly if you only use steam on it and the Switch is way harder to use outside of recommended stuff like hacking it where as on the deck you don't even have to hack it to do things like pirating

Bait aside, I will definitely give credit to the fact that the switch runs its native games better than steam Deck does .

PSP was a great emulation machine 10 years ago, not anymore and Vita is somehow awful at emulation, it can't even do N64 or old MAME well. Can't speak for 3DS because didn't even think it was worth hacking since an emulator came out so soon.

        Anonymous

I can speak for the 3DS, it's my second favorite emulation tool next to the deck but it pales in comparison to the amount of shit that the steam deck can run, anything that isn't a handheld and anything With 3D graphics outside of 3DS games It is next to impossible to run for the 3DS .
It works great for any handheld prior to the 3DS and 3DS with the exception of the PSP.

If you've got like 200 bucks and you're dying to try one out you could buy them on eBay used from Japan

But that's the point. Why would you care about emulating fancy 3D titles on a portable? No one is playing Doom Eternal on the Switch Undocked.

            Anonymous

I'm not talking about fancy I'm just talking in general, literally you can't even play gravity Rush on a 3DS because anything with remotely challenging 3D graphics is too much for it to run .
You also can't even play Nintendo 64 games on it or anything like that, any non handheld is too much for it, it doesn't have to be DOOM Eternal levels of graphics but Even something like Luigi's Mansion Is impossible to play on 3DS .
If you're looking for something that plays like Game boy games and stuff like that then the 3DS is perfect, I literally could not recommend a better console for handheld gaming for non 3D titles, but if you want something like Wii u games that you can play on the go or GameCube games or even Nintendo 64 games, the steam deck is where it's at.

Chances are, if I had a problem, somebody else had the exact same problem, asked a question and got an answer.
This is also the reason why using non-English Windows or an unpopular Linux distro sucks.
You can usually type stuff into Google and get an answer.

Everyone should, especially garbage like HP, considering HP junk has around 40% RMA rate because of batteries that inflate in them constantly or USB ports that stop working.

Deck's RMA rate is around 5%, which makes it objectively 8 times better than useless HP trash you and your pajeet friends are trying to shill here.

                >either way laptops for the pricepoint of the deck aren't bad
But they are extremely bad and completely useless for gaming. Literal 2000$ can't run games worth for shit when not plugged in and chugging absurd amounts of power, and here you are pretending a shitty 500$ with 8GB of RAM is gonna be a gaming device lmao.

Dell's consumer and gaming offerings are garbage. The only good machines they make are the business line precision and xps and even those are inferior to thinkpads.

                >Dell's consumer and gaming offerings are garbage
Literally every gaming laptop is like this. This is not a Dell issue, it's an issue where gaming laptops need to be plugged in and suck well over 100W of power, otherwise they suck ass, making them not actually portable in any way, and not comparable to handhelds that use hardware that doesn't throttle up to 90% when not plugged in. I can give you similar data for anything you want, even 3000$ laptops struggle to run games at 30fps.
So basically what you're recommending is that people spend >1000$ on a laptop with 1 hour battery life that runs games like Witcher 3 at barely 30 fps, and that it's a better choice than the Deck which costs half as much, and can run Witcher 3 at close to 60 fps for slightly over 2 hours at max TDP. Do you now understand how moronic you are?

                At 720p?????? Come on man..
If someone wants better performance they would buy a gaming laptop
It can also be used for more than just gaming and is more useful in that regards. Just for the extra utility and being able to use it for work related stuff makes it a better sell then the steam deck

Still better than the deck when running at 1080p. And everyone who's when you unplug the battery in gaming laptops performance suffered,on integrated graphics it doesn't. Also the cpu on that laptop is worse than the i5 1235u, that cpu is an old 10th gen cpu from intel and that's quite far behind modern stuff.

People took Gaben saying the pricepoint was painful to mean it was at a loss when it was never stated directly. It's the same for the fact that it only sold 1 million units when that was a speculated number from a KDE developer who wasn't affiliated with the company. Valve aren't in any way obligated to share anything to the public about their company because they are a private company. There are no shareholders that will force Valve to do anything with the device like doing a revolt and making Valve immediately discontinue a 10% discount for 1 year old hardware when that would decimate most companies' balance sheet.

Laptops are built like crap to meet the margins that allow for that to happen, even with gaming laptops for the most part. That's why business laptops nowadays are the only viable laptops for long term usage because they are built like tanks and are expensive. The Steam Deck isn't business laptop grade good all throughout but stuff like the speakers and joysticks are at that level which wouldn't be that expected in a $399 dollar base price. Valve's only real issue is quality control and cheaping out on parts but it's not surprising given it's their first attempt at making PC handhelds.

Only the speakers are good the joysticks, have a weird loud click sound when I move them. Doesn't really scream quality when my old xbox one controller doesn't do that.

The igpu is still a bit crap and to be expected, integrated graphics are still quite bad.

Alright ,though I still don't really see why you are trying to shill a deck over a gaming laptop when a laptop can be used for a lot more than just gaming. Whilst the deck, no I tried to use it for other tasks but it just shits the bed. Also the screen is a bit too small.

                >though I still don't really see why you are trying to shill a deck over a gaming laptop
Because the Deck is a portable handheld device, a gaming laptop is a gimped desktop, which can't be used if you're away from a power socket for anything other than web browsing, making it a completely useless and pointless gaming device.

The product wasn't selling at a loss imo, the cpu is worse than the i3 1215u but the gpu is better. The deck is also using omega cheap components in the 64gb model (64gb eMMC ain't good)

Nah, they've already said any revisions in the near future will just be iterations focusing on battery life, better screen, etc. Deck 2 is a long way off, probably a couple of years. I can definitely see them releasing a 1tb "premium" version with extra bells and whistles before the end of the year, though.

For Deck 2 I'd like to see a user swappable battery and SSD, better sticks, USB C port on the bottom, and redesigned circular concave track pads along the lines of the Steam controller, as that shape lends itself more to radial menus and provides some guidance/resistance along the edges when used in games.

Swappable battery is pretty much dead, like seriously even in laptops it's becoming rare to find .
Why allow people to swap batteries when you can just have them trade in the device itself for a new one

By the way, the frame the battery is in makes it annoying to get this stuff underneath, you basically need a hair dryer or heat gun
