What's the logic behind this? I would assume the game makers would do everything to make heir games available as widely as possible.

That exclusivity is being paid for

I see. Do we have any data on exclusivity vs releasing on all possible platforms? To me it sounds counterintuitive to limit sales just to cut front costs especially if you're a big company with the ability to buy the marketing yourself. I would imagine some small developer would opt for this.

Like the other anons said, Sony paid. It's essentially a calculation. You take a large chunk of money upfront from Sony, enjoy sales and buzz for a few months or years, then double dip with a rerelease later on and get more sales. They hope that this greedy strategy nets them the most money but since the game didn't sell as well as whatever projections they had, they're abandoning the strategy.

It's fricking boring. The combat is so mind numbingly braindead. The side quests to find cats are not fun. The pacing is fricked because there's so much filler spread in between the recreated moments from the OG 1997 release. It's completely devoid of soul.

There was tons of ways to watch the game two years after the fact and a ton of reviews. If you release it two years after the fact everyone will know your shit stinks and won't buy it. They also had the audacity to sell it for 70 bucks two years after the fact.

Zoomers don’t care about Final Fantasy and the boomer audience has fractionated into half a dozen different audiences that all differ on what they want Final Fantasy to be.

This - it's very similar to the Sonic franchise. People know what it is, but it has a stereotype of attracting a certain kind of person. It's a legacy franchise, where it made its bones before most modern gamers were even born. There are some great titles but many middling (or plain bad) ones as well. And yes, the modern fanbase is so fractured and have so many different ideas about what they want. I haven't played a mainline FF game since 9, so my opinions might be out of touch - but even then, I'm shocked that people come into these threads saying the problem is they went away from 4 homies in a row. No one wants that shit anymore; keep it away. It will not sell your game.

I wonder what they are going to pull to try to get people to buy part three? It would be funny if they pulled a Xenoblade 3 picture ending type ending. Now that would be funny. Clouds emo as somehow gets three b***hes.

multi-platform, they'll hint at a new unexpected mindblowing ending, they'll bundle discount the first 2 parts like they did with Rebirth/remake/DLC.

What really blows my mind is that they put those frickers in smash and refused to pit their actual game on Nintendo hardware again, where it actually might've sold well this time around. If it's a hardware limitation thing, maybe they could have another shot on switch 2

It's the modern mindset - just like cinema, if you don't make as much as Avengers Endgame and become #1 grossing movie of all time, you flopped in many fanbases eyes. People want to be attached to something popular, so if your game doesn't do as well as their favorite franchise, it's easy to be ignored and criticized. From a corporate standpoint, bloated production budgets have made it to where your game needs to be a top-50 all-time selling game to break turn a profit. Once again, very similar to movies.

This. This mindset is also what led us into the endless remake/reboot/sequel spiral as companies latch onto known properties and take less risk into creating new IPs.

The actual answer is that this game sold worse than FFXIII-3, therefore it bombed. SE is now doing layoffs and is seriously considering multiplatform releases instead of this exclusive bullshit.

The time to make the FF7 remake was a decade ago. Demographics have changed and your average weeb doesn't give a shit about Final Fantasy. They want pathetic wish fulfillment waifu dating simulators like Persona so they can feel like they weren't total losers in high school.

more like the way to make a remake was a honest remake in a single entry and not some subversive multi-episode shit. Most people tuned out after part 1 and only the waifugays remain

      >The time to make the FF7 remake was a decade ago.
I agree, maybe even earlier than that as demand grew the biggest in the years following the E3 tech demo in 2005/2006 or so. Even for part 1 hype wasn't what you'd expect it to be, and now they're pushing it along another 7 years to even see the complete product. A lot of people simply stop gaming over time and added to that FF as a brand name isn't what it used to be.

        >FF as a brand name isn't what it used to be.

to put it mildly. people just dont know what to expect from it anymore, but they know it wont be what they wanted, and that makes all the difference.

92 and 90 critic, user score despite review bombing is not a bombed game. If sales are too low for the execs then they have serious incompetence in their top brass thinking a one console sequel game would do Elden Ring numbers.

      >Because it wasn't a remake, but a reboot
Reboot is a form of remake.
      >Because it's a bloated scam
Its not bloated neither a scam. You pay 70 dollars and you get a 70 dollars game, so its not a scam. Neither bloated because its just your standard JRPG game in terms of content and duration.
      >Because nuTifa is ugly and censored
Remake tifa is one of the prettiest videogame girls ever made in modern day and only a moron would disagree.
      >Because it came too late
Dunno what you mean by that, how is it "too late"? how does that apply to videogames? is there like a time limit?

I think it was the retro-active nerf to the tifa cowboy outfit, plus them getting rid of the Cloud stealing the underwear thing. Set some people off.

Overall though, agreed, the characters were allowed to be hot, which is nice.

          >plus them getting rid of the Cloud stealing the underwear thing.
its pretty stupid because the rebirth one handled it better. In the original the joke came from the underwear, meanwhile in rebirth cloud checks out ALL of her stuff and its the interaction between him and tifa/aerith what makes it funny. In the original it was "heh...underwear" kinda joke.
