          - you don't get them all
          - must trade/buy the rest (Valve gets a cut of course)
          - account sharing, where they call it game sharing, but it's account sharing, and as soon as you use your account for anything, the ones that got in through "sharing" get thrown out, so it's objectively not game sharing, but another scam
          - review censorship based on it being negative (hurting their income)
          - games are not tested at all
          - garbage DRM forces you to upgrade
          - when you upgrade some games stop working

                Updates are optional.

Steam is the top dog because they understood that if you give your consumers a hard time, they are going to drop you the first chance they get. It's a service-based platform. They make things easier.
Epic would price gouge the shit out of the market if they could. The only reason they can't is because Steam is there.

A monopoly can be a good thing as long as it's fair to its customers. Ramification, on the other hand, can create many more issues than a monopoly does, see Netflix and all the other shitty streaming services

It's only a monopoly if the industry is impossible to get into and said company actively tries to prevent competition. It isn't a monopoly if no one wants to compete because said company is actually quality or if any competition is shit.

epic lacks basic store front features. it took them like over a year to even add a cart

steam players are okay with launchers for origin, uplay, etc. because the publishers themselves are self publishing their own games

all Epic games does is pay for exclusivity rights which is anti consumer and a monopoly seeking practice, monopolizing the initial sales and restricting all sales to their platform.

bethesda only went back because they have like 4 games total and not worth the time/ resources to handle that shit when you got no games

It's legitimately terrible, it has no edge or advantage over its competition at all. As a customer looking to buy a game, there is no reason to buy a game there instead of buying it somewhere else.

Steam has shitloads of features which may be useful, GOG is DRM-free, even crap like Uplay has the "advantage" of not needing to use another launcher + Uplay if you purchase there directly. EGS just has nothing. It's ass and it sucks, no features and doesn't do anything better than the competition.

Turns out that an objectively inferior storefront whose only major advantage is free games isn't enough to make gamers want to buy games from it. Giving away free games actively devalues the storefront itself, and lessens its quality in the eyes of others.

They've been doing it for like 3 years now but it still hasn't helped user retention. According to their own revenue numbers, the average user only spends like $4 on the store over the course of a year, and I'd bet that a majority of their revenue comes from Fortnite microtransactions rather than full-priced games.

          It's how it all works.
When some homosexual is greedy as frick and wants money for nothing (Gabe), that money has to be saved somewhere.

It also works like that for banks.
When a bank wants 30% interest (imagine that), someone has to cut corners. That's why PC gaming is as shitty as it is today.

That's also why major publishers want to get rid of Steam and use their own launchers.
These may be shit as well, but at least they are doing something. Valve doesn't do shit.

It SHOULD fail because everything it does actively makes PC gaming worse. Don't give me bullshit about "competition" - GOG and Itch are competition and sometimes they still fall short but they don't often actively ruin things the way that EGS does. EGS is garbage at every level and is designed specifically to slake tencent timmy's greed and desire for control, without actually doing anything for the playerbase (or in many cases, devs). Its entirely predicated on sucking up to publishers and everyone else just will have to come along for the ride.

There's a lot of things wrong with EGS, from the shitty lack of features, active hostility to Linux and refusal to support it even for games that have Linux clients on Steam and elsewhere (Slime Rancher is a good example), as well as perhaps worst ofall exclusivity by contract which hardly ever existed on PC prior to their shitstorm. This is to say nothing for dev/pub problems and UnrealEngine licensing or development issue. They operate like a fricking drug dealer with "free games" to use their platform and then turn around and claim those free game userbase is a reason that devs from little indies to big greedy shitheels like SquareEnix should make the devil's pact with them for exclusivity, in exchange for them basically buying thousands of copies up front. Even ignoring the Tencent investment and other bad behavior like the temper tantrum about Apple and Android (essentially "waaaahhh we want to use your store and its popularity but avoid paying a cut of any transactions for doing so), or the absolute feces tornado that is Fortnite and the entire FOMO battle pass dynamic it has pushed.

Everything Epic has done has been slimy at best, scorched earth for players' experience at worst and the faster that wretched store closes the better.

GOG doesn't even have Linux client, fails to update and offer the features of Steam and overall is a worse experience. There's almost no reason to buy from them. Itch does what GOG does and does it much better, with a FOSS launcher optional and its possible to offer both Steam keys and Itch versions if selling there, equally DRM free.
        >MAH DRM
Were you dropped on your head? If a game doesn't have DRM on GOG, its not going to magically acquire it on Steam; Steam just offers other games too that include it, like shit with Denuvo or whatever the frick. Many times those games can be launched from the executable directly when downloaded via Steam.
        >BUT IT SAID IT WAS LOOKING FOR THE CLIENT HURRRR
Learn the difference between "the game has online services, accounts etc." and DRM. Steamworks is not DRM, that's why its as easy as literally changing a 0 to a 1 or vice versa in an ini file to "crack" it. There IS a Steamworks DRM module but I've not seen it used for over a decade and its listed specifically as a DRM method. If you want "single player, manually updated, never goes online or has any services" well thats fine, you can do that on Itch (or others) but that doesn't have anything to do with DRM. Hell you can even do it on Steam if you swap to offline mode or change the aforementioned ini. However most like to obfuscate this issue to make gullible idiots believe that everything on Steam has DRM.

Itch is a better GOG. GOG could have basically come out years ago if they were serious about being open and integrated Galaxy with Playnite or whatever and helped to develop a libre solution but they didn't, they've sit on their ass for years and both devs and players are tired so they either go for Steam which actually provides useful shit, or if you're a my first game indie or old title you go to Itch instead. GOG should have stuck to ensuring old games worked on modern hardware.

They're never going to make any money because they're trapped in venture capital loss-leading strategies trying to overthrow an entrenched market leader. If it didn't kill Steam inthe first 6-12 months it was over for them, realistically. You can't keep paying massive up front amounts to developers for games that will sell on other platforms eventually, exclusivity doesn't shift consoles any more it's not going to pay off on software portal.

EGS cannot compete with Steam's features. It's a barebones platform. Steam just makes Switch and Playstation controllers work with any of their games, to do this on Epic requires third party software and it's just a hassle. No Remote Play or Remote Play together, can't play these games on a Deck if you have one, no Steamworks. There's absolutely no advantage to buying games on EGS over Steam so why would you? Absolutely no benefit of playing games on EGS unless they are platform exclusive or free, and the free games are a big part of why EGS can't become profitable. They tried to bribe people with free licenses but everyone I know just grabs the free games and then never buys anything from EGS afterward. Also Platform exclusivity put a bad taste in lots of people's mouths so now there's a huge group of folks who refuse to buy anything from EGS even if it is a platform exclusive. The timed exclusives were bad enough but then they started buying out devs who already had their games on Steam just so they could remove them and make them epic exclusive. I don't have any real prejudices against epic but I still only buy the occasional exclusive from them because I avoid having to juggle multiple storefronts whenever I can.

No wonder you support EGS. You are afraid that saying anything bad will make Timmy take away your Fortnite.

Are you a literal moron? You know you can use both on pc and some games are better with a controller. Elden Ring on KB+M is clunky trash, while on controller, its just intuitive and works flawlessly (also dont be a cheap shit and buy a real controller not one of those cheap chink cnockoffs that cant register proper joystick inputs)

Wait, it really works like that?

Yes. Just like how you can add pretty much any non steam game to steam and use their controller input for it.

yes, i couldn't get epic to recognize my ps4 controller for rocket league, but adding the launcher to steam allowed it to work

Yes, Steam Controller API works with non-Steam games if launched via Steam. Why wouldn't it?

Because it would take A LOT of to make people abandon their steam libraries and a few % extra on the devs is fricking nothing as far as the consumer is concerned, especially when they see no difference in their price tag.

General disdain towards the customers. The whole point of the store was courting publishers while offering nothing to the actual audience except freebies that most of the time aren't even worth the time spent redeeming them.

it didn't they are playing the very long game
now they get kids' parents' money with Fortnite and give away hundreds of games to those same children
in 10-15 years the kids will have disposable income and a massive library of games on Epic, making them want to buy games only on Epic because they have all their games there

Literally no one asked for it, at the time when literally everyone and their mother decided to create their own PC launcher.
Also aggressive paid exclusives, especially in the early days, when they bought exclusivity for games which you could preorder for months on Steam until last 2 weeks or so, or crowdfunded games which promised Steam key in the first place.

Epic games is better because they give free games and coupons to buy games cheaper, while the most Steam does is give like 2 or 3 days to play some shitty game for free every month or so.
