It was never a genre in the first place, only zoomers and fedora tippers pretend their made up word means anything concrete. Even spectre couldn't come up with anything other than vague definitions. Its a word people like you use to pretend they are knowledgeable about video games in some vain attempt to virtue signal that you are cultured. But vidya is pretty low brow kek
System Shock series
Bioshock series
Prey 2017
Thief series
Dishonored series
these games all have something in common
They aren't multi player and have an illusion of an open world? Thief and dishonored are stealth, System shock is action/Dungeon crawler. Prey and bioshock are in the trashcan genre.
you're a trashcan genre
Bioshock is above average at best, I bet you like New Vegas too? Onions Vegas has many of the elements people pretend is definitive of the "1mMerZiVe S1ms" yet no one calls it that.
you're going so hard into being a contrarian that you're being contrarian to what normal contrarians are contrarian about
Nope, your entire thought process has been constrained into whatever this board considers contrarian or not. Your post is absolutely horrendous.
It isn't your made up snowflake genre dying, most genres in general have been lowering in quality across the board. Including the ones you like, I may still consider them trash but they sure as hell are better than most of their contemporaries. This applies to many and not just "immersive sims".
Its a combination of the market changing due to the popularization of vidya; and game companies in general(even the smaller ones) trying to shift their gave development from games as a product to a service so they can live off life support like parasites.
funny maymay but not an argument, you still haven't answered me my previous question. What makes a game like Deus Ex and BioShock an "immersive sim" and not games like Fallout Onions Vegas or even Fallout 3 for that matter.
FPBP
oh btw cuphead, portal, and civilization are also immersive sims
the last actual Immersive Sim game was Prey 2017. And before that there was nothing for years and years. Bioshock maybe?
You actually have to be good at making vidya to create those and you can't just fill it with mtx, gacha or lootboxes.
It's not just about competent design, though. There have been incredibly few indie games that have even made a halfway decent attempt at a System Shock style game.
I guess maybe Cruelty Squad counts, but it hurts my eyes.
>Why did the immersive sim genre die?
It's not completely dead but there are very few. Zoomers and morons can't hande it. There are constanly a bunch of shitters crying about third person in Cyberpunk 2077 threads.
>inb4 Cyberpunk 2077 is not an immersive sim
It pretty much is. The best is that even the hud you see is part of the occular optics you have and you get your bullet counter only after you install a grip implant that interfaces with your gun.
Too difficult for normals. They like slot machines but try to pretend they’re above it.
What do you mean by that? Ken levine's next masterpiece that he's been working on hard for 10 years straight is almost here.
I have never heard of this term before prey 2017.
If you unironically think """immersive sims""" are a genre than you are underage and or moronic
way to out yourself as a zoom zoom
Check out Blood West. It's basically an immersive sim.
>immersive sim
>isn't that immersive
>isn't that much of a sim
It's just a fricking FPS
why are my sandbox RPFPG games diying?
It was too kino.
Aren't these games just first person metroidvanias?
how come there wasn't this much pushback when the internet ruined the term "roguelike"? I'm still salty about that one.
It has been slightly rectified in the sense that there is also the term rougelite now. But in general any descriptor or "genre" that follows the Xgame-like naming scheme is stupid. ie souls like
Any game that allows you to throw and stack boxes is an immersive sim.
They're all too similar. I love them but gameplay wise once you've played one you've played them all.
They realized every company that makes an immersive sim has to go under
I thought this thread was for super in-depth flight sims and the like, and now I'm just super confused.
why would you need a deep or immersive video game when you can just argue semantics on Ganker all day instead
