Why did they go from fantastical Arabian fantasy with a goofy lead that was serious when it was important to CUT MY LIFE INTO PIECES grimdark?
What the frick were they smoking that made them think "Yeah the audience will love this shift"?
It's All Fucked Shirt $22.14 |
It's All Fucked Shirt $22.14 |
>"Yeah the audience will love this shift"?
Well, the audience DID love that shift. Warrior Within is the wellknown and most loved entry of PoP.
Why do they insist on changing children's characters into this shit?
>Well, the audience DID love that shift.
Not initially. Back when it first came out it was relentlessly mocked for being edgy. Some even called it "Edgelord Within". It's beloved today, but that can probably be attributed to nostalgia. Sands of Time is considered the classic in the trilogy, not Warrior Within.
Yea i didnt care for warrior within after beating sands of time.
Sot is just better I still like ww
You're a fricking idiot zoomer trying to revise history.
Sorry you can't accept the truth you moronic millennial
Nobody used the term edgelord back then
Emo sure
Perfectly nailed it, emo was the equivalent of edgelord back in the days. Oh boy, those were different times indeed.
Yeah, first we thought emos were the worst thing that happened to mankind, then hipsters, then metrosexuals, and now we are here.
Incorrect.
>Some even called it "Edgelord Within"
Why would you lie about something so moronic?
Back when the internet didn't tell you what to think most guys loved Warrior Within including me. The combo system was extremely satisfying and changing the time was interesting. Also breasts.
>Back when the internet didn't tell you what to think most guys loved Warrior Within including me.
This. I remember looking online and seeing it being mocked, but I didn't care about it. I thought it was awesome as frick, and literally everyone of my friends with a PS played it and loved it.
>I remember looking online and seeing it being mocked
The worst part is that detractors only complained about dumb shit. Like combo names, Shahdee being half naked or how the tone was edgy and different from SOT. I guess that's what happens when the actual gameplay is fricking perfect, you zero in on something irrelevant.
shahdee was the equivalent of a big budget evony ad, barely in the game and only there to sell copies
different from sot is an entirely valid criticism for a sequel, which is mainly where the edgy = bad comments come from
acting like it's the epitome of gameplay when it released at the same time as ninja gaiden, dmc, gow, etc is just absurd
I'm good with people saying they prefer ww over sot, but acting like a nonce you can frick right off
holy shit the only other history revisionism that compares to this moron take is the lie of the holocaust (that didn't happen)
Now that I think about it, I rented Warrior Within even though I had never played Sands of Time.
>Warrior Within is the wellknown and most loved entry of PoP.
What the frick are you smoking?
Sands of Time is the unanimously loved masterpiece, other 2 of the trilogy are divisive as frick.
>Warrior Within is the wellknown and most loved entry of PoP.
I didn't even play the first
>hurr everyone hated it
>durr everyone loved it
Actually, I think Ubisoft just managed to do what so many other garbage publishers TRY to do: dumped the franchise's original audience and got a new one. People who loved The Sands of Time hated Warrior Within. People who had no interest in The Sands of Time because it looked "gay" suddenly thought the series was awesome when they noticed Warrior Within had cleavage and cuss words.
>OP doesn't stand alone
It was the style at the time
it obviously wasn't since no one bought it and it killed the franchise
Eh, no. Assassin's Creed killed POP.
Warrior Within led to The Two Thrones. Then the 2008 reboot. Then The Forgotten Sands in 2010.
Pop Kindred Blades looked great
Too bad poos killed Pop SOT remake, would have loved remakes of the trilogy plus the Kindred Blade version of TT
>Two Thrones never happened!
WW sold about as much as SOT and was immensly popular
Two thrones was worse than WW. And by that point the sands trilogy was complete. I hated TT even more because they killed off kaileena
Doomposters dont play games. When people ACTUALLY gave it a chance they realized it was superior to SoT
The one that killed pop was Assassins Creed popularity and some backslash from POP2008
Was the first Assassin's Creed any good anyway? My bootleg copy was crashing after you get the horse and have to leave somewhere which is basically the very beginning.
It was interesting at that time mostly because Altair has a really recognizable design, AC2 was when the ip became REALLY popular since it was a huge jump in quality compared to the first one
No. It was really repetitive, and the combat was braindead. The series didn't get good until 2.
>It was really repetitive, and the combat was braindead
That's every AC anon. If anything, trying to make the games more varied is what resulted in us getting the RPG shit today. Because apparently the simple formula of stabbing people to death juts doesn't work anymore.
I like the 2008 one. It's fun.
It was the best game in the series though. Also, Kaileena > Farah.
Based anon retconning The Two Thrones out of existence.
nice zoomer revisionism, WW was extremely popular
The game was so damn popular and successful it even got a fricking PSP port anon
Two Thrones was the franchise killer, and well, the first Asscreed.
>According to Ubisoft, Prince of Persia: Warrior Within sold 1.9 million units worldwide in its debut month.[71] Warrior Within's PlayStation 2 version received a "Gold" sales award from the Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers Association (ELSPA),[72] indicating sales of at least 200,000 copies in the United Kingdom.[73]
2 million in its debut month.
>Scenes you couldn't do today
nier automata
homie that's no fair. That's cheating. Nips are cheating in general
Japanese game, 6 years ago.
she really didnt warrant this scene with how little she was in the actual game, in an early boss fight prone to soft lock.
>prone to soft lock
How?
Yeah, she was hyped so much and then she just... dies at the very beginning. I barely even remember her boss fight.
But I do remember the boss fight against Kaileena. Hoooly shit, was that a b***h to fight. I swear something in my copy was bugged, so my parry never worked on her. So I kept losing over and over again. This theme will be stuck in my head forever.
im not sure. I recall looking this up and the answer was legitimately buy a new copy. some discs just fricked up here. What i did was copied the disc to PS2 hard drive and somehow that bypassed it. it was weird.
Yeah, I also remember this fricking weird but where you can become a sandwraith prematurely if you saved at the wrong time and then you are essentially fricked and need to restart the game.
Oh, that may have been exclusive to the PS2 version. I played the PC version and the only thing out of the ordinary was the complete lack of OST and voices, and that was because it was a common thing among pirated copies for some reason at the time.
>Oh, that may have been exclusive to the PS2 version.
Nope, the sandwraith thing was definately in the PC version. I got that in my GOG version.
my copy might have been pirated now that i think about it. my PS2 collection was either or.
>complete lack of OST and voices, and that was because it was a common thing among pirated copies for some reason at the time.
yeah, bandwidth and disc space were a precious commodity at the time, some people were still sitting on 56K modems. so game "rips" circulated a lot more than full disc dumps, where they had removed as much as they could to lower the file size while still keeping the game playable.
Wrong. Warrior within was easily the best pop. It was decently challenging, the combat was a huge improvement from sands of time, it was edgy and back in the day being edgy was cool, it had one of the best vidya soundtracks of all time, it even had a nice story with good big titty goth waifu.
>Kaailena
>goth
???
Thanks to the internet any girl wearing black is now goth to these tards.
No it didnt, what killed PoP was a mix of Ass Creed becoming popular while doing the same gameplay but better, and the remake being dogshit.
also Warrior Within is not fun, it has frickloads of backtracking, sure its cool and the Dahaka chase sections are fun. but after the "ow the edge" treatment, it becomes pretty stale.
Two Thrones dialed it back a bit and became more like the first one, even going as far as bringing back the vizier and Farah. the Dark prince was a fun alter ego, both in personality and combat. but he should've been fleshed out more, he just leaves without any fanfare near the end of the game, no boss fight or anything as far as i remember. A perfect mix of the first and second game. which only makes sense for the third sequel.
>what killed PoP was a mix of Ass Creed becoming popular while doing the same gameplay but better
No, Ubisoft ran out of ideas and what was supposed to be PoP Assassins they turned into a new IP. There is no timeline where these two games coexist because they switched focus almost immediatly.
>also Warrior Within is not fun
not surprising coming from someone who thinks jumping building to backstab people is the definition of fun
>it has frickloads of backtracking
you always backtracked to different versions of the map in different timelines with puzzles and challenges, not that corridor combat from TT
Got The Two Thrones after that
Got Forgotten Sands after that
Got a MOVIE after that (Gyllenhall wears the WW clothes in it too)
Got rebooted after that
Choke on a dick and die.
>Got a MOVIE after that (Gyllenhall wears the WW clothes in it too)
And it actually was a pretty decent movie.
We'll agree to disagree.
Asspulled some brother that had to be added to Forgotten Sands, like 3 rewinds in the whole movie tops, 0 playful banter like in SoT.
>prince empties the sand tanks on the dagger
>tries to fill them back up with actual sand
Only part of that movie I remember.
For a videogame movie? I'll fricking take it. At least the movie looked like the game and had the story 80% similar to the game.
Don't forget that the 2010s game uses the WW clothes too
AC killed the franchise
The 2008 reboot was meant to increase interest in it but didn't quite work out. The fact forgotten sands was a thing was a surprise to everyone.
This. Zoomers will never be able to appreciate late 00's edge.
Yejibros we're ready for war.
this. Edgy music back then was hip and in, rather than sad boy homosexual music today zoomers listen to.
I remember reading in an interview the director was trying to make something his edgelord son would think is cool.
>What the frick were they smoking that made them think "Yeah the audience will love this shift"?
I loved it back then as a kid and I still love it now. Eat a dick, OP.
>Running away from the Dahaka with Godsmack playing the background
based and Dahaka pilled
it's so cool his horns create the shape of infinity, very interesting touch of character design
Having a demon time janitor chase the MC for using the basic gameplay mechanic in the first game was a pretty genius idea.
The game was good. The dark imagery and heavy guitars were used tastefully within the game. The marketing and the cover art made the new style seem more obnoxious than it really was. I think there was also a cultural backlash against edgy shit around this time. Nu-metal fans were now about 18-19 years old, outgrowing it, and "serious" game journos had always hated anything that they perceived as adolescent, because they wanted their medium of specialization to be regarded a proper big boy grownup art form.
A shame though. Nu metal was the last time rock music was actually good, relevant and fun.
Everything since that has been pop-punk first date girlfriend emo pish.
>always liked numetal and metalcore bands in high school
>always had to larp and pretend that I liked boomer metal not to get harassed
>still basically do to an extent
>now bands I listened to back in high school are becoming the boomer-y shit
I wish I could go back and tell my younger self not to hide his power level as much, and tell some of those other gays to frick off. Then again, I think I'd just choke my younger self to death instead
>nu metal
>good
at least it was raw sounding and had an emotional impact
not this current mall metal where every instrument sound has 10 layers of noise reduction
>Nu metal was the last time rock music was actually good, relevant and fun.
this may be the shittiest take I've ever seen
nu metal is too broad of a term since every metal / rock band at the time was labelled as such
and they all sucked
are you high? I cant imagine someone who's into numetal yet wasn't into the death metal fad that followed
Yeah there was some edgy meme during that time but now you miss it. Funny hiw Jak did the same with Jak 2. I think people were chasing for the edgy audience by now
And like they said it made sense that ww was darker, since Dahaka has been harassing Prince for years, it was actually nice to see characters actuslly facing consequences for playing with time powers
I hate how Jak went from a fun platformer in the first game to EDGY GTA CLONE for the second. Bleh.
good example by anon, jak 2 was COMPLETELY inferior to 2 in artstyle, storytelling, just ... RELAXEDNESS and wymsical nature.
Althoug h2 is technically superior, it felt like they slapped some GTA onto jack... it wasn't a bad game, but the original is VASTLY superior because it is what it is. And 2 tries to be something else and it is not entirely succesful to, not quite able to capture this.
IT's still objectively a good game and an absolute testament of good coding and production values.
There is literally nothing redeeming or interesting in Jak 2. Its like playing a PS1 FPS.
>judging a piece of media that was a product of its time with your moronic current day mindset
You weren't there. You will never understand.
Except I did play it at the time you fricking moron.
It was "thing" at that time and it made sense lore wise. Prince was a teenager who between SoT and WW went to war and was running from immortal beast that wanted to kill him.
I would rather replay one of the edgy ones than sands of time to be honest at least they have decent combat
What? WW was great. It actually made sense the prince got tortured by the Guardian of Time for messing up with the timeline
It also had better battles and exploration, you didnt even play this game
>Arabian
Its prince of PERSIA, not price of arabia
It's a stereotype of Persia as viewed through Arab eyes, like Arabian Nights (which takes place in Persia). It's why the prince is probably a Sassanid yet everything is strangely Islamic in a pre-Islamic timeframe.
I always thought it was Zoroastrianism
That was the religion of Persia at the time.
And still is, once the fundies are deposed.
I doubt it's going to happen anytime soon
It gets closer every day.
Marg bar diktator!
The mid 2000s was when Ubisoft was still making good games, but they were rapidly becoming the soulless corporation we know to this day by 2007
>metal music starts
This game had a hand in shaping my music tastes as a kid, still jam to some Godsmack today, good shit.
For me it was this game and NFS Most Wanted, same kind of mid 2000 nu metal.
>hands get sweaty
Unironically, this game gave me more frights than most horror games I played at the time.
Dahaka made me shit myself as a kid
>YTOOB TAHT ROF NOMIC MI YTOOWS YTIGGIWS
When I was 10 - 11 I remember struggling and beating the game finally. But I remember finding out that it wasn't the true ending and it blew my fricking mind from watching the intro into two thrones. I remember I was so excited I couldn't sleep that night and I replayed the game after watching shitty 140p videos on YouTube that explained how to find the water sword. Warrior Within was such a fricking gem. Truly the peak of u*isoft.
Everyone was chasing an edgy audience back then. Hell remember Shadow the Hedgehog and Dirge of Cerberus, pure edgeshit
I miss those times where developers wanted to be provocative and shit on journalists over constantly bow their heads
>Primal
Why?
Primal was when the goth/emo/rock girls were a thing (now they are told to be non binary or some shit)
It was dark and beautiful at the same time
>now they are told to be non binary or some shit
Feels bad.
That's because the standard for the girls who want to be special was to go goth emo whatever and that implied
>no food so they were skinny
>lot of make up
And they looked like nice dolls. Nowadays they are told to get fat and look as masculine as possible. Before agressive make up = agressive strong girl
>Nowadays they are told to
yeah i pull shit out my ass too
I love Jennifer and Ruby from WETs designs
I want edgy girls back
Remember when Lara was going through an egdy phase? It was such an innocent time.
Wasn't the Angel of Darkness the worst Tomb Raider game?
It's a... complex question. Like, on paper it's one of the best, with the strongest story and atmosphere and some interesting mechanics, but in reality the game just falls apart, because it's flat out unfinished. And I mean, KotOR 2 levels of unfinished.
It was pretty fricking bad. Just unplayable shit.
I bought on the winter Steam sale (£0.69) because I intend to try the new Restoration Project mod at some point. Maybe it will be playable shit now.
Oh i remember
Good times
to be fair she was always a sociopathic murderer
The tone of the story and atmosphere wasn't edgy at all. It wanted to be darker but it was really atmospheric and kind of melancholic. I remember when I played it for the first time when I was 14 and I ended up incredibly liking it despite all the flaws because the aesthetic, mood, and core ideas kept drawing me in. It's incredibly sad how much of it was rushed and released incomplete. When you search "Angel Of Darkness" on youtube you will find hundreds of videos about how much content was cut from the game including entire levels, frick ton of important story cutscenes, Kurtis being a completely different character gameplay-wise with paranormal abilities, almost finished bosses, enemies, weapons, gameplay sections, mechanics, areas, characters, songs, etc, etc. Angel Of Darkness would have been incredible if they gave them at least one more year of development time.
Yeah, I... respect AoD for what it was trying to do, and similalry to Dragon Age 2, you can feel there is a really good game beneath this whole nonsense trying to get out, but AoD is just not fun to play, even with all that goodwill. The mechanics are either buggy, broken or unfinished and at some point you realize you are playing it despite the gameplay being awful.
To be honest, I only ever seen the ad in vidya magazines back in the day and was under impression that it's some fairy-tale-like fantasy game.
I have a lot of nostalgia for primal, really soulfull game. Fairy tale like isn't really what I called it, main girl is the gf of a rocker guy, saidguy get kidnapped by a big monsters and she get butchered
She wakes up in a hospital, as a ghost in front of her corpse, and a gargoyle guy guides her to a paralel world where her bf might be. You then go through 4 differents realms, and take on the form of the demon living there.
Combat system was really clunky, not really responsive. Cool soundtrack, amazing dynamics between protag and the gargoyle. The disc also had a lot of making off, having that on disc was really cool, not much different than what we now found online but it's just not the same
I actually can't recall Primal, I guess it's because it was a PS2 exclusive and I was always a PC player. But I miss the 2000 goth girls that were both badass and cute.
Oh I forgot about Bloodrayne, I loved those too
Also
>more red and black
Based
Really good times
Much better times.
I actually got disappointed by F.A.K.K 2, I expected it to be more... edgy.
This game's gameplay was terrible (bad combat, and the gargoyle controls were clunky and its animations slow asf) but the atmosphere is fantastic. I love the 3rd world. It was for sure one of the best looking games of its time, specially on consoles
filtered. the combat had hidden stats and improved slowly as you played.
I loved ghosthunter but it got killed by re4 similar to how legend of dragoon had the bad luck of competing against ff7
pop tww, primal, ghosthunter and legend of dragoon in the same thread?
Add valkyrie profile and we might have a franchises that deserved to survive thread
It's easy to forget, but some people on Ganker do actually play video games from time to time
and maybe pic related
i miss it
Did many anons play Ghosthunter? I rarely see it being mentioned. I really loved that game but I wouldn't consider it edgy at all.
Nah, not really. I seems that I missed out on a lot of interesting games due to being a PC only player.
there's edge, and god of war is just PURE METAL. The whole game is so INCREDIBLY over the top, with the first one being basically the funniest with kratos literally being a sadist, revelling in killing innocentpeople and having sex, spartha style hahaha.
The whole game is just one big laugh a thon of stupid and the OVER THE TOP epic tracks just make it all the more pleasing. I think the series climaxed in the opening of GOW2 where the colossus fight is just so crazy and insane, even the greec chorus in the background is singing about the fight, it's just one big adrenalin fuelled crazy fight, love it! I really want to replay GOW 2 on pc with perfect resolution one day. I remember it was pretty damn hard on hardest difficulty.
I always wonder what old God of War fans think of the new ones. They basically shit on the style the game was, for better or for worse. I imagine most fans can appreciate callbacks and the kratos as a character, but its hard to even classify these new games as part of the same series even.
I played the original six games 3-5 times over each before Dad of War came out. You're right that they're basically completely different flavors of game with not only different goals but goals that are fundamentally at cross purposes. There are many ways in which the modern titles are actually held back by the mechanical precedent and story beats of the previous games, which makes the ways in which they have managed to handle Kratos well bittersweet rather than satisfying. The action RPG bloat of crafting, open world quest design, and modern Sony fetishization of close-camera dialogue occurring during gameplay actively spits in the simple and graceful combat of the original trilogy, and yet the legacy of the blades of chaos and the ways in which Kratos moves restrict what they want to do with an over-the-shoulder camera and combat based heavily on your companion.
My feelings for them are complicated. They are good games, but they are not perfect games. I am not angry about their imperfections, but disagree with many fundamental decisions made and the priorities implicit behind those decisions. I nevertheless played and enjoyed them, I just enjoy the original trilogy more.
Do you enjoy the PSP games and Ascension?
Speaking with the caveat that I played the portable games on PS3, I found them broadly to be unremarkable but fine. Chains of Olympus is short and pretty unmemorable, but Ghost of Sparta is honestly pretty decent. Ascension looks positively stunning, especially for a PS3 game, but they were definitely running low on ideas at that point so a lot of the focus is on cool setpieces and graphical marvels that aren't great to play but look nice. Phenomenal sense of scale if nothing else, which is honestly I think the single biggest thing the Dad of War games have lost with their obsession with close-in camera shots and a single pan. In a series whose entire ethos was based around the titanic scale of the myths with static cameras often zooming out until Kratos was an all but invisible speck on the screen, none of that bombastic weight or impact is utilized even when they're clearly trying to evoke it. Ragnarok itself feels more like a particularly hairy firefight in Uncharted rather than even something on the scale of a fight with a single demigod in 2 or 3.
The new games are fricking dogshit trash
They're shit and not canon.
As far as I'm concerned, Kratos crawled up to the edge of the cliff at the end of 3 and plummeted to his death. The end.
Other than the name of the playable character, the nuGoW games share virtually zero similarities with the OG games. They're also bad, but that's not even the point. They're just fundamentally not GoW, so it's hard to even compare them 1:1.
No they are objectively not 'bad'. Having a distaste for the change of direction does not make them bad.
>No they are objectively not 'bad'.
>objectively
Are you stupid?
>Having a distaste for the change of direction does not make them bad.
Oh yeah, you are stupid.
Whether a game is "bad" is purely a matter of opinion, and thus, yes, his distaste for the game does make it bad, in the only way that badness can be measured, i.e., subjectively.
>I don't like x therefore x bad
I don't think you should be calling anyone stupid, Anon. Please don't reply to me with bait, thanks.
Go ahead and give us your review of the new games and explain why they're bad.
>The camera really sucks dick, all the enemies are damage sponges
Both can apply to the old games equally. Arty environmental cameras are nice for screenshots but are dogshit for combat when you have to focus on a tiny fraction of it for the actual gameplay. And enemies on higher difficulties (you DO play on higher difficulties right?) are spongey.
The RPG elements are absolute dogshit though, I don't think anyone disagrees with that.
>I think games can be objectively "good" and "bad"
I don't think you should be calling anything bait, Anon. Please don't reply to me with stupidity, thanks.
I literally just gave a synopsis of why I think they're bad, which you then argued ackshually they aren't bad because the old games did it too sometimes.
>Arty environmental cameras
You know what the old games DIDN'T need? A fricking onscreen compass to tell you when an enemy is behind you because the camera is shoved so far up Kratos's ass that he takes up half the screen. You literally cannot defend that. It's bad design.
The damage sponge argument is true for the old games but nobody's going to care when you complain the game's combat is tedious when you're playing on Nightmare Anal Rampage difficulty. Meanwhile in regular GoW 2018 it takes way too long to dispatch a single enemy. This on top of performance reasons is also why there are only ever 3-4 on the screen at a time, another reason why the game feels flaccid and lame.
And again, the moviegame shit. The writing is so fricking limpwristed and the millennial reddit dwarves make me cringe. It's just not a good game.
Okay you pedantic frick, nothing in the entire world is objectively bad then, but I personally didn't enjoy GoW 2018 so it's bad. The camera really sucks dick, all the enemies are damage sponges and the tacked on RPG mechanics are shit. And that's not even getting into the bad moviegame shit, like slowly carrying things while you walk down a hallway and WATCH CUTSCENE OF BOY THROWING CHAIN DOWN FOR 45 SECONDS TO CLIMB SMALL LEDGE
I knew it was objectively fricking SHITE when I had to suffer 11 minutes of walking down a god damn mountain aaaall the way back while listening to moronic fricking writing and holding forward the whole time like a good fricking movie game slave.
An absolute insult towards the player.
I honestly don’t understand how assassins creed stole PoP audience, for me PoP always had far better combat and a more fun gameplay
>I honestly don’t understand how assassins creed
PoP trilogy sold a combined 8 million copies and Assassin's Creed 1 did that *at launch*
OG AC was the Sands of Time devs, btw.
Sands of Time sold 14 million copies worldwide.
go find me the NPD data from 2003. I'll wait.
Are you moronic? What does combined series sales have to do with the first few months of the first game in the very same series?
https://www.ign.com/articles/2014/02/03/house-of-dreams-the-ubisoft-montreal-story?page=2
>2014
About Sands of Time
>Ubisoft sold more than 14 million copies.
About Prince of Persia series sales
>(Assassin’s Creed) Its 60 million sales more than triple that of Prince of Persia. It has become an industry titan.
Only SOT sold good.
>What does combined series sales have to do with the first few months of the first game in the very same series?
you want to compare lifetime sales to year 1 sales to try and prove a point and yet you just wound up blowing your own ass wide open by proving my point for me since 60million > 14 million.
Are you illiterate?
>PoP trilogy sold a combined 8 million copies
>Sands of Time sold 14 million copies worldwide.
Where in the flying frick did you imply anything about POP anything in 1 year?
60 million > 14 million you unusable hole.
>make false claim of POP series combined selling 8 million copies
>correct the wrong claim, as Sands of Time sold 14 million copies
>moving some unknown goal post for god knows what reason
Meds, now. I don't give a flying frick about AssCreed sales, I care about you being objectively wrong about Prince of Persia sales.
Not him but the whole point thats being made is that the PoP sales not being as high to AC sales is why it died. Your being a child that just has to be right on a moot point.
Not that guy but anon I really need you to calm your autism and go look at the beginning of the reply chain again
>PoP trilogy sold a combined 8 millions
>no, SoT alone sold 14 million
No one mentioned first year, neither you nor the anon replying to you
Then you started autisming about first year, an argument that nobody but you was having
Yes anon, 60mil is more than 14 mil. But the reply chain you're autisming about was an anon correcting that SoT alone sold 14mil, so PoP trilogy can't have sold only 8mil
Open the window and breathe in some fresh air, your brain is clearly not getting enough oxygen to think clearly
Two Thrones was god tier.
I like all 3 and the different tone each had, the added mechanics of the chain in TT was a good addition
For anyone wondering
SoT - 2.4 million
WW- 1.9 million
The sequel technically sold worse, but sold enough to continue the series. What's funny is how this was the beginning of the brown and bloom era, with all of the life and color sucked of the series and the Prince changed into a completely different character. But people cheered on those changes, because frick consistency, am I right?
People didn't get WW point. WW was the mc's punishment
TT got all the colour back but it was an inferior game
Fans just love to complain too much and internet made that worse
>TT got all the colour back but it was an inferior game
TT missed the point of SoT. Farah was made into a worse character and in an attempt to distance itself from WW it severed, any interesting plot point or character from it was cut. The Dark Prince himself, while entertaining, is wasted potential and nothing at all to what WW showed of him. The biggest problem is that SoT was originally meant to be a standalone game. The story was done and over. But since it made money, Ubisoft wanted more. This resulted in Warrior Within being made, but Ubisoft expressed how they wanted a broader audience, which eventually alienated John Mechner and resulted in him leaving Ubisoft for good.
It was the 2000's. Nu-metal grimcore edge was the style at the time. I kinda want it back, honestly. Although IMO SoT>WW.
way too many words, whole joke could have been improve with the first panel having a mute girl, the 3rd panel with just the guy saying' I'm smoldering with generic rage' and the woman thinking in panel 3 'They gave me metal underpants.'
The whole thing just feels like some fat gaylord trying to garner for virtue signalling chubgirl pussy when it's a legitimately stupid thing that he's correct to point out.
all in all: good potential, very weak execution by failed writing.
You just know whoever drew this thought he was being clever. Bikini armor is cool homosexual, that's why devs do it.
I mean "I smoulder with generic rage" was a good joke on itself.
No idea, but that was amazing. Everybody liked this game.
Just realize I own the Trilogy collection on PS3, did they relicense the fricking Godsmack music?
I remember being hyped as frick for The Two Thrones. As a kid it seemed cool as frick to me having a dark side of the prince to wreck enemies with. Trailers also leaned heavily into this being a centerpiece of the game.
Still disappointed how they implemented that fricking time limit and made you race through the level. Everything the prince suddenly changed into the dark prince I was just thinking 'man, not this shit again'. They took the thing that made me buy it and turned it into something I hated.
Dark Prince was based
They really should remake the third game
When I first heard about this mechanic I thought it was going to be like a Sands of Time version of Devil Trigger. I wanted Two Thrones to be a really fun action game. Some of the things it did were amazing, but I feel like there were too many setpieces for how short it felt.
>Still disappointed how they implemented that fricking time limit and made you race through the level
>Everything the prince suddenly changed into the dark prince I was just thinking 'man, not this shit again'
I know it's a meme answer but in this case it's unironically "terrible on purpose". You should dread turning into the dark prince.
I spend weeks, WEEKS, trying to unlock that fricking Water Sword, only so I can see the sex scene between the Prince and Kaileena. I was still disappointed.
I felt the same in TR 3 where I grinded for all the secret and all I got was a crappy cut level instead of naked Lara.
>Not posting the full version
Its always the ugly/less endowed women
They're not ugly though. But they probably don't have curves or big ass/breasts
As I said, less endowed
the girl on the stand probably looks WAYYYYY better as the girl on the catwalk is just really fat as you can tell from her blobby ass.
In the rest of the world, thing girls are considered attractive. In the US and africa, fat chicks are OK.
But murriblurbs will probably think this is 'sexy' because they are also fricking fatlards.
The girl is just mortified by how disgustingly revealing this cheap whorish outfit looks, sorry.
I thought you were going to post the twirl and not some incel shit
>the twirl
got dayum
I miss when games catered to the male gaze unironically
The male gaze is a meme. Hot girls LOVE being watched. Its like complaining "omg women stares at me too much!"
Only trannies and ugly women say male gaze is a crime (notice how suddenly lesbian gaze doesnt exist) and even the trannies who can afford to operate themselves the very first thing they do is upload pics of their fake breasts and tons of make up
They obviously hate competition
Its only a meme inso much that the male gaze is considered negative while the female gaze is considered to be something to aspire to, but thats just typical modern culture trying to hate and get rid of anything masculine. Theres nothing wrong as a male wanting to see bountiful women.
If the indie developers weren't much more of a homosexual than the average AAA developer we could have a real revolution with games with sexy women.
Hell they dont even need to be coomer, remember they can be beautiful without autistically covering every skin
The Forspoken b***h is one of the ugliest designs I have ever seen
YOU KNOW WHAT IT IS THAT I ASK
That game was actually good, and it's hurt by being compared to other PoP. The 1v1 fights are one of the best ones the series has to offer, the magic is fricking SPECTACULAR as magic should be, and the gameplay is ridiculously fun. Flowing from one point to another in this game is some next level fun.
They kinda messed up with the open structure, because from what I recall 3 of the 4 magics don't require anything but the basic parkour to get, so there is no pacing to getting more power. This could use a bit more structure, but it's still a good entry to the series, much better that Forgotten Sands.
The music carried it pretty hard, solid game but that OST and vibe was enough for me to beat it twice.
Well, the male gaze wasn't bad up until females realized that internet allows them to weaponize it, with all that Me Too and shit and the society at large was too slow to stop it.
>Well, the male gaze wasn't bad
It's bad for insecure women that get jealous of other women
This. Those complaining are ALWAYS ugly and flatties, if they had huge boobs, nice face and curves they would spam photos of themselves all day
>This. Those complaining are ALWAYS ugly and flatties,
And then they hunt for some naive celeb so they can falsely accuse him of rape and swindle him out of that sweet, sweet cash.
That's because those celebs aren't smart. If you become famous the very first thing you must do is claim yourself non binary or something.
I honestly never trust those blizzards AAAAH THAT VIRGIN NERD RAPED ME IN A ROOM I VOLUNTARILY ENTERED 10 YEARS AGO AAAAAH
Also, ALWAYS record your interactions with other people
The ugly culture is just destructive. You see ugly girls embracing the nb culture instead of just improving themselves
I remember this girl who used to be fat in her 13s, glasses brackets and everything, she used to feel like shit
Went to an Endocrinologist and gave her some pills and special diet, lost TONS og weight, those pills also altered her hormones so she got lucky and her huges became big, her tooth were fixed, and she started using new clothes, use contatcs lenses, new haircuts, experimentimg witj make up.....and woala, she became a gorgeous woman
You would be surprised how much the nb cult hurts insecure girls who just want to be special the easiest way because stacies make them feel bad, instead of aspiring to become stacies themselves
And troons obviously want women to be ugly since they obviously cant ever compete against them, they will always be a monstuosity
The funny part is that they only show up in like 10-15% of the whole game
This chick picked the perfect character with such an ass
There's just no way she can wipe properly.
I bet she stinks
imagine not taking a quick bottom shower after you shit....
I bet (you) stink lol
Perfect
Better times
>gif
Good enough, thank you
>not some incel shit
Glad to finally meet the roastie ie from the clip.
I loved it when it came out
I wish we had more games like this especially today
>What the frick were they smoking that made them think "Yeah the audience will love this shift"?
>Ganker's average age is so hardcoded to be 17 regardless of what year it is the average Ganker user now has no functional memory of the turn of the century or what pop culture was like back then
When did the pop-culture drop the goth edge for good? I want to say around 2008-2010, when Twilight killed the goth and Nolan's Batman made everything "realistic".
early 2010's probably
I would pin the general transition around late '00s too, maybe starting around 2007.
>consolidation of internet and birth of modern social media/Web 2.0
>hip-hop/R&B and pop replacing rock as the dominant music genre in pop culture
I don't remember who said it, but it was something along the lines of, "if rock bands just want to grumble and stare at their feet all day, then rappers will be happy to be the new rock stars"
We need a culture shift, ASAP. This current pink gay shit is getting boring.
>We need a culture shift, ASAP.
Go on then, take over all of academia and the media
>culture shift
Man frick you hipsters, you guys'll jerk off Ryan Gosling and his Drive jacket and synthwave and future funk but then Harry Styles starts doing it and the Weeknd and K-pop girl groups start putting out synthwave/city pop influenced-albums and all of a sudden you're too cool for what's cool and being mad about the polyester israelite or whatever moronic stupid buzzword you're trying to push this week because now normal people like it instead of being some niche secret club shit.
>why don't you guys like it when phony corporate homosexuals and plastic bugs start doing a shitty imitation of the things you like
Gee, I wonder.
It was the era of piss filter supremacy. Everything was beige brown and yellow at the time
>hating on Warrior Within
begone
see
The scene that made a generation of assmen
>What the frick were they smoking that made them think "Yeah the audience will love this shift"?
Were you actually around for the 00s? It was the edgy grimdark era.
The best era
I remember when they decided to give Bionicle guns.
They always had guns, bro. I remember having the ninja looking red guy with the gear organs and flame themed disk launcher as a kid.
I don't know anything about Bionicles but i remember having that blue & white guy as a birthday gift
That set went hard ngl.IIRC if you had them all you couldn download a pdf on Legos website that had instructions to combine them all into a mega bionicle
Man the world REALLY ended in 2012, it's like we are in some kind of hell/farm
>that attack where the prince literally does capoeira while holding the swords
Damn Kill Bill really stole some moves from him
>you beat the villain by ignoring him
Unless you are gunning for that good ending.
I was actually thinking of pic related
I loved that shit
>to CUT MY LIFE INTO PIECES
cause stuff like CUT MY LIFE INTO PIECES was popular at the time
toggaf a si PO
>hates chronomancy
>his horns are in the form of a Mobius strip.
I KNEEL.
Zoomers dont understand what its like to have lived in the era when edgy shit like this was cool. Everyone loved WW when it came out because of it.
I mean, the normies were making fun of it, and of the era in general, but the kids loved that shit.
It was a much better era than this plastic, gay one we are currently living in.
>Everyone loved WW when it came out because of it.
Lol no they didn't. Everyone shit on it and made fun of it at the time.
>Everyone shit on it
maybe you homosexual friends
Listen zoomie your youtube PoP retrospective may have told you thats the case but I was around at this time and the game was beloved.
Who's everyone? Me and my friends loved it
It was very popular for the time and the weakest part of SoT was the combat. They went all the way with advertising the combat in this game. What the frick are you guys talking about?
PSM was the biggest PlayStation Mag at the time and gave it a 10/10.
I got that game on Christmas and was so hyped to play it. I wasn't disappointed.
emphasis on
I'm not a zoomie. I'm probably older than everyone else in this thread.
I remember the backlash towards WW like it was yesterday. People were pissed about the sudden swerve into edgelord stuff and to say otherwise is just trying to rewrite history.
>Zoomers weren't alive and taking all this in during their childhood in the early 2000s
So, Gankerasectomy, are we moving the generation a few years forward again? Man, it feels like it was yesterday when everyone said the gen started in 96 or 97.
I miss fapping to her so much bros
Zoomers: omg I had edgy emo buttrock
Also zoomers: wow this shit slams
>Kaileena dies
>Prince doesn't give a frick
TT was so weird
I got lost at this part (no reason to timetravel to garden present if you want to get to the throne room) but other than that fricking great game
I don't remember it being so "edgy" aside from the music, for me it was comfy and atmospheric, I loved how the game looked
Exploration and puzzles were good too
I mean, there was blood, swearing, tiddies (as much as they could get away with anyway) and prince was a ponce.
Granted, a lot of it first took root in the Sands of Time, so it wasn't that much out of nowhere.
>metal is populr
>rap is losing popularity every year
>they still push hiphop in media and vidya
What gives? Don’t these companies care about making money?
rap=/=hip hop
Ass. Creed did more damage to it then anything else.
I think they went to fast on a reboot as well. They could've waited. Still it was a time that Ubisoft actually wanted to make good games.
I didn't care. The gameplay was still fun. I wish I could play this on my xbox but they didn't make WW backwards compatible.
Warrior Within is my favorite game in the series.
never played the sands of time but i adored warrior within back in the day.
also it had shahdee ass within the first minutes of the game.
should go back and play those games and see if they hold up.
Sot not so much
Also
THE FRICKING ELEVATOR
The elevator is where boys become men and princes become kings.
I mustve beat this game a dozen times as a kid until I realized there was a true ending.
TT>WW>SoT
WW or SoT being better is up to the player since they're both pretty good but thinking TT is better than either of them is a fabricated opinion that no real person holds
>Zoomie watches a YT retrospective
>Reviewers "research" is basically scouring reddit and going on Metacritic which is missing most publications from the time.
>"Yeah, Warrior Within was very hated at its time!"
Shit, I watched a video just to see how predictable it was and the first thing the guy complained about was that WW didn't have quips like SoT. Any review on this game today is done by some Marvel-eating slopboy.
I thought it was strange of people to blatantly lie with no reason. That explains it, thanks.
Media starts with an idea that continually gets bogged down and misconstrued by market research and or meta commentary by businessmen who don't understand what they are in charge of
Many such cases
I like it personally, it was edgy sure but it was a great game.
It makes sense if you consider the story. The prince's life went completely down the shitter after the first game. In SoT he was a sheltered, innocent prince. In WW he had lost nearly everything.
Is now the time for this franchise to be revived?
Under modern Ubisoft?
Nah let me keep my fond memories.
No. We've seen what happens with nostalgic IPs throughout the years. Just hold onto the nice, childhood/teenage memories.
Haven't they tried to revive it like twice already? And hell, the Sands of Time trilogy was revival itself, too.
I don't think PoP is getting any more revivals.
At worst you'll get a monkeys paw and get an open-world action-RPG like nu-AssCreed.
If they'd stick to the original gameplay and tone (either SoT or WW), gladly. But nowadays Ubisoft pales in comparison to what it used to be during that gen. At the time they were a guarantee of quality. Between PoP, Rayman 3 and BG&E they were serious top dogs when it came to AAA action adventures.
We need a decade minimum. If I don't get
female ass shot or godsmack level of hype music with it, its already DOA
neither of which will happen in this current day and age.
Only if the development is handled by a completely different team and Ubisoft is only in charge of handing out the budget and nothing else.
We all know if PoP was revived, they'd just make it "Not Assassins Creed".
Literally a different time. Many series went full edge at the time. While it was forced at the time, in retrospect it feels pretty genuine. It's a power fantasy, might as well go hard on it. Plus WW was a really good game despite the tonal shift, and the OST was bangers. Listening to it now thanks to this thread and it bangs.
I fricking love fantasy settings based on anything that isn't european or tolkien because it always ends up being so much more whimsical and unknown because it hasn't been done to death yet. I wonder why devs just don't do fantasy based on other cultures anymore.
because it's appropriation bro.
>millennials pretending that everyone loved it universally and only recently people turned on generic mid 00s edgy phase
Who are you quoting?
I liked the edgelord aesthetic back when I was the target audience and I still like it now. Also, Millennials are in their 30s now, the term you're looking for is zoomer.
The oldest zoomers at the time were 7, you fricking moron.
Try 4, zoomies grew up in the 360 / PS3 era.
So you're implying 4 years old filled with nostalgia pretend they were the target audience or something?
To be fair, back in the day everybody was making fun of the edgy phase popculture, not realizing how bad the popculture will get in 10-15 years.
How do you like your plastic popculture, huh?
Whats wrong with it? Velma is a fantastic show with diverse characters.
...
(You)
Thanks
ok.
>back in the day everybody was making fun of the edgy phase popcultur
Most critica did, but these games still sold well if done properly, as people my age were the perfect target audience for edgy games in which you played as a hardass.
These comics were the typical contrarian always trying to please a woman
>I totally don't fap to hot girls I'm a nice guy please have sex with me
Reality is normal women avoid those since nice guys are usually incels and they go for the chads. Hell Xena, Charmed, Buffy etc had a lot of female audience
Yes, I liked it.
I remember watching some making of videos for warrior within and wasn't the creative director some kind of like gobsmack fan or something
Oh it was the artistic director
https://archive.org/details/Prince_of_Persia_2_Art_Direction_Movie
Could you imagine a male that looks like that working in this industry today? How are they all so numale these days?
what's the lore behind Shahdee and Kaileena? How did they come to be?
What's the deal with the architecture and fashion sense of the island of time anyway? iirc the time period is 500BC and then you go back a couple more centuries into the past in WW
sumerian monolithic zigguratpunk or something?
also
>red bladedancer > shahdee > elika > kaileena > farah > razia
"Some say that Shahdee was created in the Empress' own image. Like everything else on the island, she exists to serve the Empress of Time. But, unlike the rest of the Sand Creatures, she enjoys a small degree of autonomy, functioning as the Empress' second in command. Nevertheless, the Empress is not the kindest of masters, and Shahdee has suffered years of terrible abuse at her hands. Over time, she has come to hate her maker, secretly devising ways to either escape the island or kill the Empress. She's just waiting for the right opportunity to present itself."
—Official Booklet description[1]
>the Empress is not the kindest of masters, and Shahdee has suffered years of terrible abuse at her hands
Hot.
Interesting stuff, thanks
So I take it Kaileena's a perpetual immortal sorta creature who always existed?
>So I take it Kaileena's a perpetual immortal sorta creature who always existed?
NTA, but IIRC that was the case. That's why Dahaka was after her, she was a walking time anomaly and Dahaka can't have this.
Kaileena is the Empress of the Sand, she was the one responsible for creating the hourglass from the first game. I don't remember why though or if the game ever explains her motivations besides ensuring the Prince don't frick with the timeline.
I think the empress couldn't leave the past time for whatever reason, so need Shadee to operate in the present
I recently finished Darksiders 2 and i started craving for prince of persia-like wall running, jumping platforming and puzzles. Do they make games like that anymore?
No, because people prefer to praise snoy movies or nintendo braindead gameplay these days
No, the best you'll get is nu-Tomb Raider and that shit sucks. Unless there is some indie game that I'm missing.
story-driven platformers are a thing of the past. Bland sandbox is now the new rage that can't seem to fricking die.
There's Darksiders 3... but I don't think it was as good as OG or 2.
>tfw Darksiders 3 fell for le souls meme
Haha.....
Also I wanted more Darksiders, not a cheap spin off
maybe AC2 and Brotherhood
I don't think newer games have much parkour shit.
>tfw remember the flop that Brink was
Tomb Raider LAU trilogy, fricking Marc Ecko's Getting Up, Overgrowth, and Castlevania Lords of Shadow
Emulate the Wii Forgotten Sands if you haven't already
Forgotten Sands is so dumb, they fricked up the combat system and the story is nothing but retconned random stuff. I only played to scratch the PoP itch.
Blue Fire and I-Ninja too, heavy on the platforming
>I-Ninja
yooo
>i-ninja
goddamn, that game was my shit. even weirder knowing that Don Bluth helped with this game
I've had Forgotten Sands in my Steam library for years and haven't played it. Why the Wii version though?
>Why the Wii version though
anon, it's a different game, not the same as the pc/xbox360/ps3 version
it has some unique mechanics never seen in other pop games (e.g. you have the ability to put on a thing you can hang onto on any part of the wall that you want), its level design is arguably among the best in the series
there's also some very neat bonus content e.g. a short platforming segment done in the style of the first two pop games
don't miss out on the game
can i play TLU before playing the original trilogy?
i like to play games in a chronological order
>can i play TLU before playing the original trilogy?
Yeah there's not continuity or anything. I'd still recommend playing the originals however. The platforming has aged remarkably well.
>can i play TLU before playing the original trilogy?
Well, it's the conclusion of the TRL-TRA-TRU trilogy, so a lot of context will be gone, but you can figure it all out by yourself, it's not like the game is super story-heavy.
Anniversary, Legend and Underworld are a trilogy. Underworld continues Anniversary and legend stories, though those games are short and pretty enjoyable
wait, darksiders 2 is similar to pop games in that regard? i'm really aching for some pop-like platforming
i guess i'll play darksiders 1 and 2 now
>Emulate the Wii Forgotten Sands if you haven't already
extremely based, that game is top tier and very underrated
I played 2 before 1 and prefer the sequel's faster combat and fluid wall running and jumping. 1 is more like zelda
There's the 1st Tomb Raider reboot trilogy (Tomb Raider Anniversary, Legend & Underworld) , but only the first game is actually good. the second is mediocre and the third is straight up bad. There's nuRaider as well but they're all terrible.
The problem with games like Darksiders, Alice Madness Returns, Soul Reaver, PoP and other action games is that they don't have controversy behind. They are usually multiplatform games so no free marketing from the console war schizos
Like, you can find 50 threads complaining about nuGOW and zero about Evil West or Gungrave
These games need to be exclusive to one of the 3 consoles if they want to get attention
Unironically Jedi Fallen order.
Guys... Imagine this. A soulslike, but with platforming and wallrunning abilities. Holy shit.
The only thing it has in common with dark souls is the first four letters of the name. 3 is where they went full moron on that front.
>What the frick were they smoking that made them think "Yeah the audience will love this shift"?
The sales
You try getting chased by the guardian of time for seven years with barely any sleep and keep your composure
so the PoP story is just a loop?
Ubisoft really is dumb, with such timeline you can basically reboot the entire series at any point.
They could make one using the good parts about WW and improve upon the formula, to this day I haven't seen any game with a combo system that is fun like it without going all the way into DMC or Bayonetta
When you wrote reboot, i suddenly remembered that this exist. I don't think it had that fun platforming and puzzles. Looks good though
2008 was fine, imo, but could have been a whole lot less casualized.
Don't know why they switched the Prince's voice for Nolan North, though.
Because it's not the same character, baka-kun.
CARPETS THIS THICK
i really liked that line. i think they gave him a unique animation just to show how thick the carpets were
I really don't understand what is so hard about making a Prince of Persia or why they go to such lengths instead of sticking to a tested formula. This approach worked for so many of Ubisoft games like Far Cry and Assassins Creed who had little variation in gameplay over the years and yet they spawned dozen of them, while with PoP they seem to go crazy every entry in the franchise instead of treating it the same.
>Forgotten Sands still happened in the final timeline
It must've been confusing for the alternate timeline prince who had no experience from SoT.
So was Kindred Blades supposed to take place in the WW bad ending timeline or is that a reference to it being cancelled?
More or less. It's mostly about Prince trying to do the Legacy of Kain thing and figure out how to fix the mess he caused without Farah dying and causes Dahaka to spawn, which causes the events of WW, which leads to TT and so on.
Speaking of which, I miss Legacy of Kain.
>Speaking of which, I miss Legacy of Kain.
You will sing a different tune once the new game comes out.
The new game is not going to happen in a million years.
Crystal Dynamics got the rights back and already made a public poll in regards of LoK. Surely there's some shit brewing in there.
I don't think there is much you can do with LoK at this point. Amy Hennig has been cancelled by Neil Druckmann for not being woke enough, 90% of LoK actors are either dead or retired (I think only Simon Templeman is still in business) and there is no point continuing the story from 20 years ago.
So I assume a soulless reboot that everybody will hate, because that's one nostalgic IP that hasn't been murdered yet.
It's like morons forgot about the leaked Dead Sun gameplay that looked like generic adventure game #9131239, then forgot about Nosgoth, then forgot about Blood Omen 2, then forgot Amy Hennig isn't even working on CD.
They WILL frick it up, even if it is a piss easy 1:1 remaster, they WILL frick it up.
Yes but I always thought by the end of TT he had looped back and corrected the timeline where all the bad shit wont happen again.
>Why did they go from fantastical Arabian fantasy with a goofy lead that was serious when it was important to CUT MY LIFE INTO PIECES grimdark?
God of War
Warrior Within > Sands of Time
We should get a new Prince game that brings back the shadow prince.
>No Vegeta hair
SOULLESS
Shocked to see my thread lasted so long but it's nice to have PoP thread occasionally I guess.
Going to boot up 2008 again after I finish up with Two Thrones.
hell yea
I also remember playing this at the time and enjoying it a lot played it before Uncharted too so Nolan North wasn't Drake for me yet and still think it was overhated.
I really need to replay the trilogy at some point.
Last time I've played it... 5 years ago?
>Why did they go from fantastical Arabian fantasy with a goofy lead that was serious when it was important to CUT MY LIFE INTO PIECES grimdark?
Grand Theft Auto III was successful.
VERY successful. And people wanted that pie.
Tale as old as time.
Despite obviously being a product of its time, Warrior Within was ridiculously kino. I have a tremendous respect for sequels that are willing to go for a different style and tone for the sequels yet make it work like T2, Aliens, RE4 etc; it keeps things interesting and fresh. Sands of Time was incredible but I'm glad they didn't try to chase that dragon again. This was the textbook grittier, darker middle chapter but the Prince being always chased by the ever oppressive Dahaka justified the shift in tone for me. There's some "ow the edge" 2000's to it all but I'd say it works 95% of the time.
Two Thrones was also good, but it just didn't leave much of an impact like Sands and Warrior did; both those games felt like they had their own distinct personalities, while TT felt kind of like a compromise.
>Despite obviously being a product of its time, Warrior Within was ridiculously kino.
All of the games in the trilogy were kino. The story and its delivery were pretty much on par with the likes of Legacy of Kain. I think it was the time where Ubisoft still cared.
that's just how it was at the time. you had to be there.
What the frick happened to the SoT remaster?
Probably one of the 3 cancelled ubisoft games
Shouldnt have given it to poos for le diversity points
They specifically mentioned unannounced and PoP wasn't one of them.
It's still happening, but after the first trailer nobody is hyped for it anymore.
Cucked by diversity quotas
A shame, pop trilogy could look really beautiful
It got massively negative reviews on the trailer, Ubisoft had some mobile game studio in India do the remaster.
Now it's in development hell
It wasnt even mobile studio anon that pajeet studio never made any games but only multiplayer dlc and some shit to just fricking dance lol. What the actual frick was Ubi thinking by giving them remake of one of their most beloved IP.
When I was young playing the sand of times for the first time, I would imagine my self playing the game in front of thousands of people while I had commentators talk about me playing the game, every time I failed or succeeded. Now come a few years later the current gaming world is being dominated by snot noses streamers who b***h and moan about every game they play till they get devs to bend the kneee. Now I wish I went back in time and stop my self from ever having that thought. I manifested streamers into existence at that moment.
>scandily-clad female characters
What.
Dude, that shit started with SoT. Heavy metal started with Sot, Brooding started with SoT. WW just pushed it towards a logical conclusion.
>Dude, that shit started with SoT.
Look up the Harem enemy and the Harem Guard from SoT
I don't have to. I remember the Harem level pretty well. And the Prison level as well, with that bopping pseudo-metal sountrack.
I'm glad this never came out
i don't know. WW ruined the series. it had poor level and gameplay. It was a technical nightmare. Story sucked too.
Banging
Probably the best combat theme in the game. Too bad at this point you are swarmed with the most obnoxious enemies.
Warrior Within is a piece of art and the best game in the entire series with an incredible atmosphere and style. It takes me back to amazing times when creators had actual creative freedom to create what they wanted and put all their heart and soul into it instead of being forced to be slaves to all the corporate higher-ups.
Pure edge kino.
>audience will love this shift
And that's literally what happened, moron
This board unironically loved Bomberman Act Zero and Bionic Commando 2009.
So, where did the Dark Prince in TT come from? IIRC this was supposed to be his WW persona made manifest, but even in WW he wasn't THIS edgy. Or is it "his WW persona on the sand crack"?
I thought that was just the Prince fighting off the "corrupted by sands" shit that affects all the normies who get turned into monsters.
>is it "his WW persona on the sand crack"?
Yes, the corruption is exacerbating his already existing negative traits.
>No option to save Shahdee and get alt ending with her
You had one job Ubisoft
Now that Ubisoft isn't churning out a new Assassins Creed game every year, maybe they can make a new Prince of Persia?
They could even make it in the AC universe, it would fit nicely.
I'd prefer if it wasn't open world, more a straight forward jumping puzzler like the original games.
Nah, they'll gonna turn it into a soulless, diverse, open world AC reskin. Give it a few years, so that the cancerous trends die down.
Pop is not like AC, it needs to have actual level design, more platform, puzzles, and better action.
Pop games are unironically from a ps2 era
I'm not even sure if they will survive long enough to make it.
What games did they released this year? The Mario game and Roller Champions?
9/11 and the war in the middle east fricked the whole world over, and we had to suffer with a decade of edginess.
unpopular opinion: two thrones is best in series. best platforming, best combat plus some stealth, best boss fights.
I like all of them
>Yuri Lowenthal voices goofy Prince
>Robin Atkin Downes voices edgy Prince
Why did they do this?
Yuri had enough edgelords on his plate with Sasuke.
The artwork looked good but Farah is censored.
Can't dare to imagine them remaking WW
Literally sims tier.
That's probably all those women in the studio ever seen.
I am almost sure that they have removed the sex scene as well.
Also, for some reason, they decided to switch those awesome prerendered cutscenes into the in-game cutscenes and ho, boy do they look like utter shit.
Seriously israelites and trannies need to frick off
Pushing for the literal diversity team, mostly Indian girls even, sent out this supposed remake to development hell, remember that the latest news on this project is that Ubisoft restructured the developers team and has delayed the game to an indefinite date.
That was before the most recent news that Ubisoft as a whole is facing major downturns, who knows if this remake won’t be actually cancelled any day now.
>Ubisoft restructured the developers team
In other words, Ubisoft kicked the pajeets out.
We are seeing the consequences of diversity hiring. Even Neil Druckmann is begging elden ring fans since he is losing part of his team and people are getting tired or blackrock shit.
You get money from your holocaustale, shut the frick up already, life has been fricking shit
I'm a spanishcuck so I know how these parasites will end like gipsies, aka past family smart, sons and so on too degenerated and spoiled brats to achieve shit. We are seeing Druckman's face knowing he is talentless and he is there for being a israelite
>Pushing for the literal diversity team, mostly Indian
It was a mobile studio in India
>some rich sand Black person prince has the poster from PoP2 enshrined somewhere in his mansion
imagine being a sand Black person with virtually no culture other than fighting over which imaginary friend you think is real with other sand Black folk lmfao
still more culture than amerimutts
who said anything about america, other than you?
>What the frick were they smoking that made them think "Yeah the audience will love this shift"?
They were right
I mean I still like Ubisoft
You might want to see a doctor. As soon as possible.
it was kino*
*i havent played it in 15 years
Nu Metal was insanely popular in the early aughts. I swear to God, Warrior Within was has a fricking Godsmack track in it.
>Warrior Within was has a fricking Godsmack track in it.
You could have told me that Bodies by Drowning Pool was in the game and I would have believed you.
>fantastical Arabian fantasy
have a nice day. It is PERSIAN not Arabian.
Also, Warrior Within is the best PoP game.
If you don't like the OST, have some authentic Persian music:
I've never played Two Thrones because they retconned the frick out of Warrior Within. Imagine not having respect for the peak of your franchise.
>Kindred blades
what could've been
In the Sands of Time the Prince of Persia is set within India and Arabia. Additionally, you should know that people will conflate Middle-Eastern aesthetic and designs with Arabian culture, especially when they use Arabian themes since the first DOS game.
>and Arabia.
You are moronic and a liar.
>Arabian
>Dahaka wants to kill the prince for messing with the timeline
>if Dahaka killed him before the empress fight, sands would never be created, causing a time paradox
>for some reason prince thinks stopping the creation of the sands of time would make him free from Dahaka (and it works)
>Dahaka kills either the prince or the sand wraith and lets the other one go
>the sand wraith dies the first time around, but next time it's the prince
I know it's a time travel story so confusing logic is expected but still.
I think in that ending, the Prince created an infinite loop where the Dhaka kills one version of him forever.
There are either 2 or 3 different Dahaka's on the Island of Time during the game. Because there are ultimately 3 princes.
Pretty fricked up
I think its more about fate, then time travel.
Everythings pre-destined; except when you use the sands of time to change your fate.
If you dont kill kaleena, someone else would. Since the sands of time existed in the future, the dahaka can be sure that it's pre-destined and he doesnt need to worry about it.
But it kind of implies, that the dahaka has nothing else to do then kill an infinte number of princes over and over again.
Its doesnt make that much sense...
But it was GRIMDARK and COOL.
I miss Chinese Batman's wild adventures so much it's unreal
the sands of time is a timeless masterpiece almost on par with disney like magic. The sequels are utterly forgettable and uninteresting both visually, storywise, the whole look and feel is completely inferior and feels like they went from superior storytelling with a wymsical tale which is narratively CORRECT, and turned full LINKING PARK EMOOO
I never cared for any of the combat mecahncis because games like that neverh ave any meaningful combat to begin with.
It's like kingdoms of amalure, its' fun, visually pleasing, ti's FINE.
Shut up you underaged Black person. The first game was fricking lame, short, tedious, and boring as frick. Warrior Within had way better gameplay, puzzles, exploration, level design, enemies, combat system, incredible music, way more interesting art style that fitted a darker aesthetic, more mature story that was about Prince facing the consequences of his actions instead of being a fantasy Disney romcom, and amazing atmosphere.
Buzzwords the argument.
What about the pre SOT games?
first 'mocap' game ever
a timepiece in its own right, and definitely pushed gaming forward. as one of thse iconic games of years gone.
No that would be Karateka (same creator)
Shahdee is a miracle of the universe
Are the gog versions of this trilogy good? Do they work with modern controllers (i.e. xbone or series x) out of box? Sands of Time was one of my favorite and most replayed games on my PS2 and I never played either of the sequels.
>Still haven't finished Sands of Time
I bought the trilogy on Steam, was planning on playing through it all, I started Sands of Time, but I'm only like halfway through it, I gotta go back and finish it at some point. I have so many fricking games in my backlog that I need to finish, it's insane, some I barely started/touched.
I fricking love this shit.
This thread makes me wanna replay the games, but god I dont wanna fricking deal with UPlay.
RPCS3 anon
They're on Steam and don't require Uplay.
Really? Cause I remember buying forgotten sands way back in the day and being completely unable to even open the game BECAUSE of Uplay.
are the original 3 different?
The original three and 08, yes, but I can't speak for Forgotten Sands.
They are on steam and gog
The PC ports are shit. Just emulate
PC ports are definitive versions at 4K 60FPS.
Pirate the GoG versions and install the fix, low IQ trash.
Only Forgotten Sands uses Uplay, the others don't because they came out before then
Any recommended order? I want to try out the series
1 2 3 4 5 anon.
SoT-WW-TT
Release order, really. Sands of time, Warrior within and then Two thrones. 08 is an optional playing choice
Forgotten Sands was overhated. PoP 2008 was cool.
Skip the first
Pop 2008 is a legit masterpiece on the same level as the other 3 and im tired of pretending its not.
I only like the original 3 Turban prince games, ever since Ubisoft got their hands on it, it just became unchallenging and boring
The ubisoft games were all made by the turban prince creator, so they have his blessing
I know, still think he just sold out
then he wouldve just sold the ip to them in the first place
It was such a bizarre shift for the franchise.
It's not just the edgier tone, it's also the fact that it feels like a complete non-sequitur in every regard. It's like it starts in medias res, except certain things are simply never explained.
I think the story of The Sands of Time is better than Warrior Within, but the gameplay in WW is better than in SoT.
Also, anyone else played WW first and then TSoT? Didn't know that the sequel was actually a sequel back then, kek.
>Grumpy Persian guy and a boring prostitute are claiming a tower for 5 hours
truly amazing story
>doesnt like listening to Yuri Lowenthal talk about keeping women in line
To each his own
>you activate all traps in the palace yourself
That was cool.
Well, I played as a kid ten years ago, and I think it was okey.
>I played them as a kid ten years ago*
Sorry for broken english.
Any guide on how to get the PS3 DLC for PoP 2008? I know that you have to somehow integrate it through multimann on your PS3 or some shit.
I think you are honestly better off watching it on youtube.
>impaling by spikes is le goofi funni
it was always grimdark moron
WW and everything past it is cringe as frick.
>no fun allowed
I wish we still got edgekino like WW again.
WW and everything past it is cringe as frick
This game is basically what everyone wanted Strangers of paradise to be
i like TTT
Godsmack is the shit, you're a low test beta cuck pussy. If you had 1/4 of my testosterone you'd be fricking like a beast all night long.
hope that the next asscreed do some justice
>the small children who grew up in the era of grimdark brown 'n' bloom shit are now posting their shitty opinions on Ganker
Oh dear
ok grandpa
Afraid of dying old man?
Do these games play well on PC? I vaguely remember trying to play SoT on steam a while back and something was fricked up about it.
Yes. SoT has really some fricking annoying camera behaviour the original console versions did too but not as bad particularly in fights but otherwise the GOG versions which I plowed through are fine.
playable but all three have a laundry list of bullshit to fix, check pcgamingwiki
Best PoP. Acquire taste. Oh wait, sorry, I didn't know it's terminal. Get your meds. They're not much but it helps.
>Not liking the most based entry
IMAGINE just IMAGINE actually loving one with its "Oh stab the enemy on the floor or it'll get back up!"
Early to mid 00s saw a heavy edge market. It sort of ended in the late 00s and early 10s.
>hating on THE WARRIOR WITHIN of all of things
Just nuke this place already, I hate it so much but I can't stop from visiting Ganker daily
