it's expensive (>500$)
facebook bought the good VR company
there's not that many games, due to low userbase. cyclic problem
finally any new medium needs freedom. there's no "flash player studio VR" to enable tons of experimental fun stuff made by autistic loners en masse
and the fact that it's still just a camera strapped to your head and the wands don't feel that great doesn't do it any favors either.
I think the oculus rift is $400. My father bought Samsung Gear VR headsets for the kids when the hype was starting about VR. I feel bad as they just sit up on a shelf in the living room still in their boxes. I mean there's nothing to do on them. You play a day or two and then you either fork over money to play a few more days or it's done. Makes me feel guilty every time i see them. VR should have been interlinked with the games. What a bunch of fgtry
too expensive and clunky for the average fag and 's reasons.
>500$
mean to say 200, remember it's basically a monitor and a controller
>google 'vr headset' >literally get this shit from PC maganizes >everything is practically $300
Unless you just want to do crap vr/ar cellphone on a phone: You're going to have to put in some cash.

Unity, and 99% of VR games are exactly that, where tf are you looking?

2 high resolution high refresh rate monitors, 2 lenses, cameras and a custom CPU if it's a mobile one.

VR is not dead in the least, but the fucking garden gnome zuck has progressed and regressed at the same time it's moment to shine.
They're will always be VR there is no escaping it, maybe if it was still like the shit like google cardboard or samsung gear that era is dead and gone.
Headsets will only get more advanced and now were leaning into AR/VR hybrids which make way more sense considering AR has it's uses as well.
If anything shit like the VRCHAT community will keep this shit alive and keep pushing the boundaries of what weird shit you can do in VR.
>iTs ThE fUtUrE
Bro it's a gimmicky fad that people play at bowling alley arcades or when their mates come over hoping someone punches a TV. 99% of the games are tech demos or early access shooting galleries.
There's some good shit, but most gamers aren't going to give up their controllers and get off their fat asses just for a TV strapped to their head and two plastic dongles.
It's not as cutting edge as you think, you're not on any forefront of a tech revolution.
I've spent like 16 hours in VR this weekend. I've played Murder and Among Us in VRChat, went to a movie screening, attended a drinking night, played Contractors, Blade & Sorcery and Derail Valley too.
VR didn't fail. You failed VR.
Sounds like you just used a really convoluted zoom meeting. Literally everything you listed could be done with a screen share and a microphone aside from the VRchat pedophilia
Imagine coming home from work, wanting to play some video games, and you strap on a clunky as fuck headset that digs into your face.
Until VR becomes as lightweight as daily wear glasses, it's dead in the water.
Also a non-insignificant percent of the population will always have motion sickness with VR, meaning the market appeal is limited.
>Imagine coming home from work, wanting to play some video games, and you strap on a clunky as fuck headset that digs into your face.
That's been the issue I've been having honestly. If you're tired you're not going to want to stand up and waggle your arms. Maybe you don't have enough space to move. The face gasket gets dirty no matter how many washes or protectors you take it through.
It doesn't help that the games are pretty damn awful, Valve showed exactly how a VR FPS should play like, what design considerations there must be, and they're still releasing shovelware.
>The face gasket gets dirty no matter how many washes or protectors you take it through.
I use the stock silicon thingie and it's fine
My problem is that the bobovr strap has an awful design
Should've clarified, mine's porous. I guess silicone would be better, it'd get slick but at least it wouldn't manifest that smell after a while. But at this point I don't even know if I want to get a new gasket for it considering how little I've played it lately.
Funnily enough I've been having the most fun just going to random places with google earth.

Try space engine to expand on that.
Its like exercise for me, fun once you start but you could spend hours doing everything else before because you know you'd otherwise pause it and abandon it. There's not much entertainment layering, its absolute focus, no looking at the time, no phone, no TV in the background. Its fun, but its hard to start.
If you want phone and TV in the background just use overlays. With steam vr it unlimited virtual monitors. I usually almost always have some movie or podcast playing either a screen thrown up somewhere or attached to my wrist. Also for phone use holoswitch
Vr isn't dead but vidya is. That's why all games suck today even non vr and all the best shit is done through mods. Vr mods is where all the action is at and these "vr is dead" threads act like only aaa goyslop is worth playing shows they don't actually play vr. By the way the latest mod to drop is hellsinger in full vr
>Facebook spent literal billions to make a worse copy of VRCHAT (which is free) that they could control >When they could have used that money to finance dozens of big games
The bulk of that money went into ai research which will allow game studios to pull an Elon and purge all the trannies that ruined vidya and profit margins
No killer app that sells systems. Cost isn't really an issue if there's shit everyone just has to play, like how games like Tomb Raider, Unreal, Quake, MechWarrior 2, and others got people to splash out on whole new systems with 3D accelerators, which were not cheap. The PSX had Toshinden, N64 had Mario and Starfox, etc. When you go further back the same was true for every piece of gaming hardware that got popular.
Alyx is the closest thing VR has had was Alyx, but it wasn't it. It really didn't help that VR hardware was unavailable because of the coof. That may have even been the biggest problem. VR could have gone huge while everyone was staying inside, but there were no headsets available for people to buy. Now that moment has passed, and opportunity along with.
It didn't fail and won't. It's just very young. There are maybe five actual games you can play that aren't just walking simulators. Eventually people will develop and make more fun games.
And it's not expensive, no more than video games. I bought my headset around christmas last year for $150 because it was on sale. I've been nothing but coomgaming with it since.
I won't get VRchat though, I might be a degenerate who is enjoying looking at eight foot tall horsewoman in maid outfits, but I refuse to engage with the actual community of this. I'm not that mentally ill.
They cant solve the problem of normies and basedbois getting motion sick.
I am enjoying the heck out of my VR headset and i can play it for hours wo getting any negative sidefects other than sweating when i play more physically intensive games.
I play any game whit physical swords or heavier looking guns whit weights tied to my hands although mine are not as fancy as pick related.
Home entertainment technology has always been driven by porn. Look at VHS and Betamax. Betamax was the superior format but because of the amount of porn on VHS, VHS prevailed.
If you restrict the pornographic potential like Zuck is doing, your product is going to fail. You'd think Zuck of all people would understand this.
There are actually a ton of games.
People just dont market them.
So far i played like 10 different VR games.
And i still have a long list.
Also you can mod many non VR games such as the recent Resident evil games.

My issue with VR is movement. They're never going to fix it without either giving you an omnithreadmill which would limit you to games where the main mode of transport is walking, or somehow tapping into your nervous system to prevent nausea and vertigo.
We're not getting a spiderman game where you actually feel like you're swinging from buildings anytime soon, so who gives a shit?
>so who gives a shit?
Why do you still care about videogames as a whole? We have been through a number of different innovations and we are still not at the point you are describing. You could apply the same reasoning to 3D graphics for example, so why care about it over 2D games if it can't make you feel like you are literally there? In the end, your VR spiderman game does feel better than playing normally since being able to see depth and scale give a better sense of speed. Being able to intuitively aim both hands at the same time also gives you much better control allowing for more realistic physics based movement rather than many of the current spiderman games that just fake it. It improves the experience and makes the game fun, so it is still worthwhile even though we still haven't reached your unrealistic expectations.

You're paying for quickly outdated tech. The hardware isn't there yet to support that.

Do modern vr headsets feel like you're watching things through goggles like with the oculus rift, or have they made the FOV big enough that you don't see the black edges?
It's a dumb gimmick for retarded idiots, same with movies in 3D or 4D and motion/touch controls.
Who says it failed?
Im still enjoying virtual interactive/touchable lapdances in VAM, no fuss, no muss.
