They couldn’t come up with one for CHARIZARD so it was canceled

Charizard is so based he doesn't need a cruch like GreBlack person.

Yeah, he just needs two different megas and a Gigantamax

XY&Z is literally the name of that season.
The theme song for it was called XYZ.
It's clear that they were planning a Z game but skipped it to rush out Sun and Moon for the anniversary.

          >It's clear that they were planning a Z game but skipped it to rush out Sun and Moon for the anniversary.
There's a sudden gap year, its not because of fricking SM. XY is when started to focus on side projects.
          >XY: October 12, 2013
          >ORAS: November 21, 2014

          >SM: November 18, 2016
XY2 was not rushed for SM, it was rushed for trash nobody remembers.

            >XY2 was not rushed for SM
There was no XY2, moron. That's the point.

              Anonymous

Or cancelled i mean. And yes, it did exist. XY2 was a planned project that couldn't be finished because gamefreak can't handle development. They actively tried to push all their focus from pokemon which lasted quite a bit longer; like with the whole sword being made basically only in the last year and mostly by newbies.
Its not a hidden fact that starting around XY they went ahead with an internal project to shit out IPs. That has achieved nothing, and most games under it didn't go anywhere.

Obviously wrong wording in terms of rushed though.

                >and yes, it did exist
There is absolutely no evidnece for an XY2/Z ever existing that couldn't be explained in other ways. They had a few leftover ideas from XY and one case of actual good coding in Bank, but neither of those mean the game was ever in development, just considered during XY's creation.

probably in years some studio working on a spin-off will make a new form, just like it happened with Shadow Pokemon in Pokken.

It will always be funny that they came up with this instead of just giving Ash a regular mega. Zard had two, Lucario had one! What are we doing here, people?

      Anonymous

IIRC the writers really wanted a Kalos mon mega, and there weren't any, so they just made one for the shillmon. Just a really dumb conviction to not give Ash another gen's mega.

      Anonymous

it functioned similarly to Infernapes blaze ability in the anime funnily enough. Ash's Infernape would avrivate its blaze ability and go super and win, this was just a flashier version of that. I guess you can say Ash had a special infernape that could easily trigger blaze more often than other Infernapes or something

blaze/torrent/overgrow at 50% hp would be cool

  11. 1 year ago

Because they tied it to Ash and didn't consider what a 3rd ability would mean on all the starters.

It's a weird design choice, giving Greninja a haircut and clothing details.

I think it's fine as an anime exclusive thing, something to set Ash apart as some special underdog character who can't use Mega Evolution. But since they eventually give him a Mega Lucario anyway, I think they should've just had Mega Greninja/Delphox/Chesnaught in hindsight.

      Anonymous

They did want to give greninja a mega, but gamefreak said no since that would mean giving a mega to delphox and chesnaught. Honestly, we REALLY needed a Pokemon Z, wish they had done that for the 20 anniversary and left SM for a 2017 release

The anime version of Battle Bond made it look like Ash-Greninja had Water Bubble + Speed Booster at the same time, while also holding a LIfe Orb and a signature Z-Crystal. Except it also had a thing where KOing Greninja while it was Battle Bonded to Ash would knock Ash unconscious, forfeiting the match.

There's no way in hell the games could include that.

It caught on very well and caused Greninja to become more popular than CHARIZARD. GF hated this and destroyed everything related to the form, such as cutting Greninja from Gen 8 and grudgingly bringing it back in Gen 9 but with nerfed Protean and Battle Bond abilities

It was an anime power up that leaked into the games.
Even from its inception as a DEMO only pokemon it feels like its inclusion was something GF never wanted. I suppose enough time has passed and they are scrubbing the form out. Also it is one less model to maintain over time so there is that too.

Tell me what, Anon? The SM Demo was the only way to get a BB Greninja.
It is a pokemon you can't get through conventional means. Sure you can transfer to the games but BBGreininja is still locked to the demo. Hell, BB Greninja can’t even breed.

          The anons right you know
Sun and Moon Demo is the only way to get BB Greninja, and you should download the demo before the eshop shuts down so you can get infinite BB Greninja's

Maybe if the Kalos starters got proper Megas for Pokémon Z, this abomination wouldn't have existed.

  25. 1 year ago

Because it was never suppose to exist. The writes assumed the Gen 6 starters were going to get Megas. They even begged GF to do it. So when they didn't, this is what we got.
