TTYD has more online presence and popularity. Remaking games isn't for anything but garnering profit, so they go with the game more people are typically going to be aware of.

Why would you want that after the bastardized localization? The original is fine.

might as well make a new one, shit's too basic.

Cuz Miyamoto wanted a new ivory back scratcher. Since all the big YouTube shills are mostly nostalgic for the GameCube and Wii, TTYD was the easier money

It's on Switch Online (and in fact, it's the only one that's been consistently ported), while TTYD was stuck on the Gamecube for nearly 20 years.

yo guys why did they remake popular internet game instead of scrimblo quest 64

Because it's not as good as TTYD.

wouldn't that be even more reason to remake it

Personally, I'm glad. The 64 TTYD mod is better than anything Nintendo would have done.

TTYD is fueled by shitty zoomer nostalgia. PM64 actually needs a remake but it has too much soul.

The partners basically disappear after they join the party and you finish their intro section, only even getting generic reaction quotes a couple of times afterwards. Paper Mario is fun enough, but it's not just "streamlined" compared to TTYD, it's actually lacking in certain aspects.

ttyd is full of soul. PM64 just feels like recycled ideas. it lacks creativity everywhere

nintendo too lazy and they probably lost the source code. The only thing we can hope for is a recompilation with texture packs

decomp was already completed 100% (for ntsc-u anyway). Just a matter of someone putting together a native port on other platforms.

Who even cares? Paper Mario is probably less than half a year away from some autist doing a full decomp which will be 10000000x better than anything s.oytendo will ever accomplish.

They explicitly are not working on any kind of PC port. It's been finished for over a year now, and work on a port hasn't even begun.

                >compiles to an N64 rom
no shit, Black person, work on porting it. Go make the fricking port you want instead of whining, a huge portion of the reverse engineering has been done already.

                >uh-duuuur just make it den!
First of all, I'm not whining. I'm stating facts. I don't give a frick about a port because if I want to play the game I'll just pop my actual copy of the game into my N64 and play it because I'm not some moronic underage like yourself.
Secondly, and more importantly, there has been absolutely zero work in the past year by anyone to achieve any playability on PC from this source code. Do you wonder why that is? It's because it's not that fricking easy, and the people who are already intimately familiar with the decompilation project have no interest in making it happen.
Third and final note: It's a miracle you can string enough words together to form a coherent thought considering how much of a dumb motherfricker you are.
Stop pretending like you have any idea what you're talking about when you're completely clueless.

PM64 is perfect. The artstyle is a flawless evolution of the one pioneered in Yoshi's Island and changing anything would just ruin it.
TTYD on the other hand has always looked kinda cheap and shitty. The makeover was justified. Unfortunately they still had to ruin it with out of control censorship, but mods will fix it.

64's only flaw is the lack of action commands during prologue, nothing a little modding can't fix. it doesn't need a remake, the artstyle is already timeless.

Not needed considering I lived when you could go to a cool rom doccon store and get the 64 library for nothing but a monthly fee. Shame the service got discontinued.

TTYD holds up a bit better, it has a lot more stuff in it

Although it's also possible they had some way of porting over much of the original codebase into the Origami King engine, so it might just have been way easier to do TTYD for that reason

      Anonymous

They probably didn't judging by movement dufferences. 64 would have been much harder to remake due to having textures that can't just be upscaled and a much more specific aesthetic then "Flash Game" like TTYD and Super had. TTYD got remade because the textures were easy to upscale and the generic Flash art style gave them room to implement a new art style rather then having to tediously recreate the original

      you are. incredibly bad take.

I get the feeling most people probably had the reverse problem. They tried SMRPG and assumed they didn't like rpgs when really SMRPG isn't very representative of what RPGs do particularly well, since it doesn't have much story or characterization and the combat is very simplistic.

That's the danger of releasing these two so close to each other like this, but oh well.

    Take your pick.
