Why do people consider speedrunning autistic? A lot of speedrunners are just normal gamers who prefer to play the same game quickly as opposed to other methods. Doing repetitive things does not automatically put someone on the spectrum.

>speedrunners are just normal gamers
Wrong.
It doesn't help your case that such a massive number of well known speedrunners are unironically autistic. Frankly if you speedrun a game, I think it becomes very apparent why it takes some autism to want to do this for thousands of hours. I have no issue enjoying autistic things but its silly to be in denial.
Okay, so then UNIRONICALLY why is being autistic a bad thing? Because in relation to speedrunning it's always used in a derogatory fashion on here. Meanwhile when talking about something like Factorio or Skyrim sex mods, it's suddenly the "good" kind of autism.
Factorio takes respectable logic skills and Skyrim sex mods take creativity. Speedrunning has both sometimes but its not as obvious and mostly its just obsessively building muscle memory and rolling a dice 20,000 times. Its literally degenerate and doesn't even resemble anything respectable or useful. Also most notable speedrunners pour like 10x more time and life into it than most people spend on Factorio. Its very autistic and people will have hundreds of hours but speedrunners will build their life around their hobby and spend tens of thousands of hours on it. Also they're in the limelight more. I have no idea what hardcore factorio players look like and I never have to think about this.
>speed runners
>normal
yeah bruh nothing wrong with playing the same game over and over to shave 1 second off your PB. I'm sure speed runners are known for their stable mental health, too.
these
When people first encounter speed running they just expect the cleanest gameplay ever (which admittedly is what most early runs are).
Instead, they get
>inventory teleport glitches
>bit manipulation
>sequence breaking
>The runner basically do anything and everything in their power not to play the game
It's pure distilled tism
>Doing repetitive things does not automatically put someone on the spectrum
There's doing repetitive things and then there's spending upwards of 3000 hours constantly running the same game to optimize your run and shave 3 seconds off your personal best. I find speedrunning itself to be interesting, especially when people do videos on games I like and break down how different tricks work but I'd never consider doing it myself because I'm not on the spectrum/don't have the patience
the troony is taking over the autism
it's good background noise, it's asmr for me
Speedrunning is honestly just sad past a certain point. In the early days of a game, it is legitimately about who is the most efficient at the game. There are odd little tricks here or there that save time, but for the most part, it's about who is actually good enough at the game to beat it the fastest. But eventually, the skill ceiling is hit, and people can only save time through exploits or lucky boss patterns. Most of these rely on nothing but RNG, and you just have to bang your head against the wall until it finally works to claim a record. This is the point where a game goes from who's the best, to who's the most desperate. People will play an identical run thousands of times until the computer lets them put their name on top of a leaderboard. That's when it just gets sad.
Consider the following: Most games' skill ceilings have not been met, and are actually very far from this point because of a lack of consistent runners.
I imagine most people doing speedrun shit don't go that far anyway
>A lot of speedrunners are just normal gamers
I breathed out through my nose slightly more strongly than a normal breath upon reading this phrase
I only watch Hugo One because his gta runs are hilarious
Do it as a casual side hobby but don't devote your life to it. Same with regular videogames.
Ganker gets really mad when anyone tries to not be shit at something now. It went from "git gud" to "muh comfy."

> A lot of speedrunners are just normal gamers who prefer to play the same game quickly as opposed to other methods
That would've been true in the early 2000s when it was a fun little hobby that you had and can stop whenever , but the moment it became an alternative to make a living is when it became a complete autist fest and a clown show
People speedrunning now are caught in an endless loop of spending 400 hours trying to beat the world record , beating opposing world records while keeping theirs as long as humanly possible and losing it and starting the cycle all over again. This endless loop ultimately results in increased levels of autism or self existential suicide.
It's the gaming equivalent of chasing the dragon.
Code induced insanity
>Every single speedrunner is a couple of autists on Twitch
You're diagnosably mental if you think speedrunners aren't well-represented by the autists on twitch.
>Doing repetitive things does not automatically put someone on the spectrum.
Yes it does
all sorts of people speedrun games if you think otherwise youre fricking STUPID
I fell down a rabbit hole looking for any sort of correlation of ASD and Speed Running (mainly looking for articles) and I dead ass thought this was one for a second.
