Why do people get so impressed by recreations of stuff in Minecraft?

He is just copying a fake space ship blueprint designed by someone else. Seems more like monkey see, monkey do than using creative energy if you ask me.

(You) had to be there. They had to place all that shit by hand. You don't see people knocking good craftsmanship just because they learned it from someone else. If you ask me you are looking for invalid ways to feel superior despite having nothing to show us.

I never understood people who use minecraft as a medium for sculpting. I guess it's just a low barrier for entry? If you want to build 3D models, even if shitty voxel style, just use a 3d modelling program like blender, zbrush, maya, etc. There are ways to build using voxels in all of those. At the end of the day, people using minecraft to make 3d sculptures like OP are just brainlets/poors using inferior and rudimentary software to create "art".

      Anonymous

Because Minecraft sculpting has a built in game so it's not just a sculpture. It's an environment to find entertainment in. I suppose (You) want me to describe the concept of fun now. That's the end game of all these peanut gallery narcissist conversations.

        >implying anybody "plays" in those massive recreation/sculpture builds
sorry to break it to you anon, but for the most part you're wrong. I get what you're saying, that it's a 3d environment that you can explore after you've sculpted your creation. But those massive XXX hour builds where autists recreate cities or build massive statues or art sculptures are never played in. They get built, have some screenshots/video taken for a little bit once they're done and then thats it.

          Anonymous

Is that any different from observing a sculpture for a while and then going home and never seeing it again? I'm sorry to break it to (You) but art is and has always been subjective. If you have anything of what you consider to be real merit then why don't you show it to us?

            Anonymous

I have nothing against art, just pointing out that minecraft 'art" is pretty cringey and is basically only reserved for the mentally ill and children. Any adults doing "art" in minecraft is incredibly sad, along with adults who find merit in minecraft "art".

Those software are much harder to learn than Minecrat.

Think about it, what could these kids do after opening Blender? Even to make the most basic stuff, you would need hours of tutorials. In Minecraft, they just start walking with WASD, punching stuff and collecting blocks, then they can easily just pile them up.

        Anonymous

literally exactly what I said, low barrier for entry for brainlets/poors. I guess it's a good way for kids to start flexing their creativity but thats about where I would leave it.

3D sculptors like to act as if it's a very difficult art to master in order to inflate their prices but the reality is that it takes at most 2 years. 2 years is nothing compared to other arts, including sculpting marble statues. In 2 months which is around 100 hours, you can certainly make that same elf albeit with less details.

This is why I like the vaguely defined stuff more. Just following a blueprint is boring, taking a couple of reference pictures or a minute or two of video where the main focus is somewhere else, then turning that into a build is way more impressive. Stuff like the Hogwarts or Gensokyo builds. No blueprints for those, just enough references to get a feel but not much else.
