Nobody is saying V is a bad game either, only that IV was a better game. Not everything is black and white.
> By only 4 years at the time kek
4 years feel like 8 when you're young > 3 was the first I played and I played every one since, even the PSP ones.
Fair enough > It was massively popular at its time, people tend to forget this.
Yes but we're talking comparatively to V > I never thought it was deep, I just liked that the grimy city had a more serious plot with it.
I think this is where we disagree. All others GTA had their serious moments, even V. IV in comparaison felt too stuck in one note tone > Guess that varies by person but I'm Belgian.
Salamalikum frer
>All others GTA had their serious moments, even V. IV in comparaison felt too stuck in one note tone
Sort of. 3 was pretty serious to be fair but VC is when a little humor came into it, but that is mostly in part because it was inspired by Miami Vice and 80s cheese. SA was where it really became fun, I hardly remember much serious plot in it tbh. Then LCS and VCS were very fun and goofy, with VCS having Phil Collins star as himself in it. IV just felt like a return to 3 for most people, myself included.
V just felt like it missed the mark and didn't know whether to be serious or goofy.
Anything to do with the main story, CJ Ms mother death, Sweets despair, Smookes betrayal and the corrupt cops was pretty serious. You don't remember it because its filled with whacky characters and absurd stories in between and it wasn't filled with melodrama like IV. The basic facial animations may have been a reason too.
> V just felt like it missed the mark and didn't know whether to be serious or goofy
I felt that with IV. It tried to be serious but at the same time opened with a pointless S&M gag. Romans character felt out of place
>The basic facial animations may have been a reason too.
True, most of the characters looked pretty neutral. Even CJ's despair just looked like he was half asleep.
>2.
it was my first. i played it in high school, a year before 5 came out actually. it's the only gta i've really played.

contrarian points are only cool for the right reasons >4.
i did like the serious tone. i did not think it was all that deep. i liked that it was gritty, but also very silly. the driving physics were fricking hilarious and the less cartoony graphics made it even funnier. the radioshows were also extremely entertaining.
Because it is, here's a list: >better shooting >better driving >better characters >better writing >better world >better melee combat >better OST >radio stations are debatable
OST
4 introduced me to so much good music as a teen. it was fricking awesome.
riding a motorcycle around liberty city to this song at night in the rain https://youtu.be/YndKLYQrugU
only to frick up, crash and get launched a million feet was the best feeling.
electroshok and the alternative radios changed my life for the better.
never really listened to the pumpkins, the stuff that plays on the radio sounds kinda gay. then again i'm male and i think fruit by the asteroids galaxy tour is unironically one the greatest albums of all time.
found whitey from 4. he's pretty cool https://youtu.be/apeRfBmOYr0
great shakes vol.1 is pretty good, but vol.2 is absolute genius
found lcd soundsystem. i got huge on sound of silver and especially 45:33
i discovered shy child because of their remix https://youtu.be/O0BRvxAjCmM in 4
i liked how weird their first (second?) album is, but liquid love was an every day listen junior year. especially for this song https://youtu.be/1kfDeldVYII it just fricking rocks.
i was already huge on justice, so i was really glad to hear them in, but 4 had me listening to a few deadmau5 albums, which is impressive because i wrote him off as normie trash. then he dropped while 1>2 in 2014 when i was a senior and it blew my mind. especially as a ningay.https://youtu.be/SGDBXtOxsj4
didn't realize i'd get so nostalgic over gta4 a decade later. i think i'll reinstall and play some this winter. thanks anons
Not even V itself either, GTA Online is available as a completely separate game and is cheaper than V, so zoomies just buy online for about $10 and dump their cash into Sharkcards.
>Zoomers only player GTA5 and that's it.
No, zoomers will claim they played San Andreas when they were 3 years old. They are the new "90s kids" from 10 years ago that were born in 1999
Because it is, here's a list: >better shooting >better driving >better characters >better writing >better world >better melee combat >better OST >radio stations are debatable
Why do people think the driving of GTA IV is good? Every car drives like it's a barge with loose suspension. Your bumper should not be dragging on the ground for taking a corner at 20mph. A massive utility truck should not drive similar to a fricking sports car. A massive utility truck should also not stop dead in its track because you hit a bicyclist.
The shooting and mission structure are also some of the worst of any game I've ever played.
IV's driving mechanics are super basic, and you learn them in just a few minutes. You just don't mash the accelerator and brake frequently and it's so simple. They aren't hard, nor are they realistic; they're just shitty.
IV's driving mechanics are super basic, and you learn them in just a few minutes. You just don't mash the accelerator and brake frequently and it's so simple. They aren't hard, nor are they realistic; they're just shitty.
No one said it was hard. It's just shitty and unrealistic. There's already an absurd amount of driving with a ton of traffic and few straightways, so it just makes the already absurd amount of driving just even more tedious.
shooting
How? It's worse in all ways. It even sounds like slapping wet paper towels around
driving
So you've never driven a car? Because you don't spin out of control making a turn at 30 km/h IRL
characters
writing
Debatable but you can have this one. Story is not important in a game anyway.
world
Being summoned to go bowling every hour is "better" a massive world full of activities... hmm
melee combat
Hard disagree. IV tried too hard whereas V went simple and fluid.
OST
IV's OST is pure late 00s cheesiness. I understand how that could be good for nostalgia, but it's not objectively good.
stations are debatable
There are no more songs in IV so it automatically loses
>IV's OST is pure late 00s cheesiness.
Yeah, there's nothing cheesy about V having Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Lorde kek. Nobody even remembers Lorde anymore.
redditors saying 4 has a better world always makes me laugh
beyond delusional but my bet is that most of them haven't even played these games and watched some yt videos
>block after block of generic skyscrapers and apartment blocks >shitty unrealistic driving physics where turning at 20mph makes your bumper scrape the ground and turning at 30mph makes you spin out >massive amount of traffic and no straightaways combined with the shitty driving physics means you are basically simulating 9 to 5 wagie commute in a fricking videogame and never get to have any sense of speed at all
compare that to V which is massively varied and basically a scaled down version of a big city + outskirts + surrounding countryside.
>memorable and interesting story with memorable and interesting characters >fun gamey physics >good music >writing that actually makes you laugh >you can date women that aren't literal poledancing strippers
GTA IV is everything GTA V isn't.
Because it is? It has aged more gracefully and the physics are just much nicer. Has more and better glitches lore like the swing which will never be forgotten. Had an actual fun online mode. I wish my PS3 was still working so I could play it again.
It was smaller and a little more focused in certain ways. The story was less edgelordy. Definitely not as much of a sandbox, but was also a big step in a different direction compared to any PS2-gen GTAs. I still remember seeing the first gameplay leak of it before release and it seemed so futuristic, which no modern generation does now.
They’re on the same level as 4 really. It was back when you could make fun of both Democrats and Republicans. They both have the news stories talk about your actions after beating a mission. What bits in particular were bad for you?
I think most people like Roman the character but finds him annoying outside the story, So yeah, it's probably how often he calls. Then again, I think he's essentially used as a scapegoat for how often all the characters call the player, he's just the most memorable one.
Usually for me it was either Lil Jacob or Roman calling. Sometimes Dwayne would but he was just too much of a whiny b***h to deal with. >tfw couldn't hang out with Bernie, the one character that actually seems fun to hang out with
I think it benefits a lot because of its proximity to GTA V. People had basically 5 years between entries, which meant it didn't outstay its welcome and was pretty revolutionary in terms of physics. In a way that Cyberpunk now can't even come close to.

That's the thing though. I don't expect to disprove to you otherwise because you clearly made your mind up. I don't know why you thought saying 5 was shit was going to disprove what anon was saying because anon's point was precisely that people were going to say 5 was shit until 6 released.
The driving in this game is absolutely dogshit and since 70% of the game is characters having dialogue in a car drive from A to B it ruins the game
inb4 buh muh realism nobody cares about realism if its not fun
also the ragdoll physics in gta iv is amusing sadly rockstar turned down their euphoria physics engine in gta v
I'm actually reconsidering replaying again, and finishing it. I'd downgraded before, but I want to hear other people's preferences for which version to downgrade, what multiplayer client they chose, etc. I'd assume https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Grand_Theft_Auto_IV is a good resource?
i haven't played 4's multi in eons. as far as just playing the rest of it the complete edition with fusion fix, radio downgrader, and a few ini edits works great.
all of 5 just feels like a tutorial to go play online and spend money and or grind forever. there was locations like the military base that you never even went to.
V started the whole "GTA has always been a satire of American culture" myth
no it fricking hasn't, the only game before it that came close to that was IV and that was more of a deconstruction than satire
I haven't played 4 and I still think 4 is better than 5, lol. I'm at like 50% completion in 5 and can't be bothered to finish it. The driving physics and car deformation are boring and there is too much third-person shooting.
Gameplay wise, NYC is more aesthetic than Los Angeles. The city felt more alive, even if the map was smaller. For how big the map is in 5, a lot of it is vast nothingness. Red Dead 2 took note of this, and made a huge map but fleshed it out (and the cost of years of development). Id argue it was also the first really refined game, 3 was a big leap in game development, but 4 really refined it. 5 just felt like it was polished, but didnt add anything.
story wise, 4 was, darker, grittier, ect. Things you want to play in a crime game. GTA5 was a hair away from Saints row with their zany and edgy antics, but also tried to pull the moral high ground card. >we're bad guys, but the worse guys are actually the government!
this shit never works in any gangster/crime tv show, movie or game. I also didnt give a frick about trayvon martin 2.0, mid-life crisis man and the reddit edge lord meth head. You had three protagonists (which was too many) and they all sucked.
5 just feels like an awkward stepping stone until we get 6, and that seems like it will be a disappointment too
they didnt try to take a moral high ground in the departed. The gangsters were gangster, the cops were either dirty or just buttholes, but nobody pretended it was anything different.
GTA5 had the infamous torture scene, and whole plot of the FIB being behind a ton of terrorist acts while having trevor save the day, despite him being a murdering meth head. If you want to write compelling characters, either have them stay in the morally grey area and over time question their world view. You cant have a murdering, sexual deviant suddenly have a morale code he wont cross.
>we're bad guys, but the worse guys are actually the government!
This is 100% true though. Glow Black folk do WAY more damage to society than any gangbanger or methhead could dream of.
Because GTA 5 online has become bloated and full of sweats on flying motorbikes blowing up everything preventing you from having any fun whereas people still remember having fun with their friends in GTA4 online without having to worry about the next unkillable moron on a flying bike with 600 kdr
I liked the serious tone it took, I actually finished it unlike GTA V. DLC was kino too.
I was younger back then so probably nostalgia has some play in it.
because it has a good story and was an infinitely larger, more significant leap forward technically. GTA5's story is a meme, and the design is just a more refined version of 4's.
literally the only thing 5 has over 4 is customization of vehicles. 5 even removed features from 4 because its casualised garbage, which is amazing since gta was already a casual experience.
I didn't even like V enough to finish the main story and I had 100%ed 3, VC and SA.
V takes so many backwards steps but most especially with the AI. I just can't fathom how poorly programmed the AI became in V.
It's my "first" GTA game. I was like 8 or so when SA came out, so I mostly just watch my brother play and he'll let me play only during the freeroaming ses.
Also the hype for IV is pretty strong that I was so excited to play it when it came out.
>tfw was roughly 9 or 10 when SA was coming and i bought every magazine i could about it
I didn't have a computer so any magazine with a new picture was amazing shit to me. Funny how now I can see GTA VI leaks on the internet now and not even give a shit.
Decent story
Fantastic radio selection before the lisences expired
The wanted level scales better and i think the cops are more fun to evade
Better physics
Better street ai
gonna replay 4, any mods to enhance the experience or is it better to play it unmodded?
was a console pleb when I first played so I've never done it with mods
The story had characters that you cared about. Gta v was just nonstop b***hing and moaning between the 3 of them.
Franklin >boring, and Lamar was not that funny
Trevor >i'm woohoo crazy pyscho wackjob to the mind of a 12 year old
Michael >stupid marriage family bullshit nobody cares about and even when he tried to get away from it, it still follows him throughout the story
Replayed both a couple months back and 4 is so much worse its not even funny
I get that zoomers started sucking it off after a youtuber made a video about it but still just embarrassing
The only thing 4 has going for it is the physics which they made so at least somthing about the game would be "good"
GTA 4 is a grimdark muh realism tech demo. Even people at the time knew this and understood how different it was from San Andreas. With GTA 5, they took in the criticism and combined San Andreas and GTA 4 and turned it into the ideal crowd-pleased super game.
Reminder >Game map is one small city and 2 towns, the rest is mountains. >Physics considerably worse than the game that came before it. >No interiors besides safehouse and Ammunation >Shitty missions such as Crane operator, yoga, apple offices, any mission involving Michael's kids >Terminator cops with ridiculous accuracy so police battles are usually short >Removed crouch feature >Restrictive linear missions that fail if you try to be creative >Unlikeable characters >Forgettable villains >3 protagonists >So many guns that they all feel the same >GTA Online
Just to name a few
The biggest thing I missed in 5 was an actual free roam multiplayer. I loved loading up and fricking with cops and shit in 4. In 5 you barely get any fricking weapons as pickups to the point it's a fricking in-game event when something cool actually drops, most of the vehicles and especially the cool ones don't spawn so you're forced to grind for them, and money is always tracked.
Frick 5 and frick its skinnerware bullshit online mode, they turned fun chaos into a fricking MMORPG.
And back when I was playing, they hit you with so many fricking calls from Lester and other wienersuckers every time you signed in, and if you didn't answer, they'd call repeatedly. That alone was 10x more obnoxious than Roman.
They played it when they were children.

Cope harder. Only underage morons think IV has good driving mechanics because they've never driven a car.

No one said it was hard. It's just shitty and unrealistic. There's already an absurd amount of driving with a ton of traffic and few straightways, so it just makes the already absurd amount of driving just even more tedious.

bestest intro
The map is ALL active. In gta 5 almost all of the map is rural dog shit with a few city blocks.
Also gta 5 had zero soul
GTA 4 was certainly more ambitious. Even the biggest GTA V shills can't deny that
In term of technology yes. In term of content and game design, it was a step back from SA
>it wasn't quite as ambitious in gameplay content as SA
That's faint criticism. SA was a masterpiece
because gta v is shit and so will be vi

That's the thing though. I don't expect to disprove to you otherwise because you clearly made your mind up. I don't know why you thought saying 5 was shit was going to disprove what anon was saying because anon's point was precisely that people were going to say 5 was shit until 6 released.
GTA4 was the last one to have an edge to it. GTAV felt like it was playing it too safe.
There's also the setting and time period in general
it's the last of the real rockstar games of the 2000s
anything beyond 2009 is shit
IV had barely any satire and the little it had felt awkward.
Find me a game that makes fun of blue state culture the way V does
Too add to that, that torture sequence brought V a ton of critique for being needlessy edgy
The driving in this game is absolutely dogshit and since 70% of the game is characters having dialogue in a car drive from A to B it ruins the game
inb4 buh muh realism nobody cares about realism if its not fun
also the ragdoll physics in gta iv is amusing sadly rockstar turned down their euphoria physics engine in gta v
>pic
I look like that and had those exact opinions during those years
I'm actually reconsidering replaying again, and finishing it.
The political ads in IV were pure kino.
I did initially but later patches fix it anyway.
re: phone calls
didn't you guys ever just turn the phone off and just frick around?
I liked hanging out with Brucie
I haven't played 4 and I still think 4 is better than 5, lol. I'm at like 50% completion in 5 and can't be bothered to finish it. The driving physics and car deformation are boring and there is too much third-person shooting.
The story mode is a red headed b***h to advertise features put in the real game, a console mmo
5 just feels like an awkward stepping stone until we get 6, and that seems like it will be a disappointment too
> this shit never works in any gangster/crime tv show,
Uh.. hello?
they didnt try to take a moral high ground in the departed.
> Trevors response to the torture was not of moral motives but simply for being a pawn of the government.
>we're bad guys, but the worse guys are actually the government!
Was eddie mentally ill????
yeah, he was sexually abused by his dad who made him dress up like a little girl.
Because it is.
literally
>GTA IV
SOVL
>GTA V
soulless
Because they have common sense?
literally the only thing 5 has over 4 is customization of vehicles. 5 even removed features from 4 because its casualised garbage, which is amazing since gta was already a casual experience.
Letting you pick up the cars you lost from a police impound was a god send. Everyone who played IV lost the infernus Florian gave them.
I didn't even like V enough to finish the main story and I had 100%ed 3, VC and SA.
V takes so many backwards steps but most especially with the AI. I just can't fathom how poorly programmed the AI became in V.
V feels like it was dumbed down for the Black person and beaner audience
Franklin felt like an after thought since he had absolutely no personality and Trevor felt like he was written for the Rick & Morty audience.
The single player was.
Decent story
Fantastic radio selection before the lisences expired
The wanted level scales better and i think the cops are more fun to evade
Better physics
Better street ai
Because it is better in every way except graphics
gonna replay 4, any mods to enhance the experience or is it better to play it unmodded?
was a console pleb when I first played so I've never done it with mods
Only mods I use are to fix the radio and use a trainer, that's it really.

You'll have to downgrade the game to restore some cut songs and install some performance fixes that only work with certain version of GTA 4
Because they're autists who played in the game's physics instead of missions. Many such cases.
The story had characters that you cared about. Gta v was just nonstop b***hing and moaning between the 3 of them.
Franklin
>boring, and Lamar was not that funny
Trevor
>i'm woohoo crazy pyscho wackjob to the mind of a 12 year old
Michael
>stupid marriage family bullshit nobody cares about and even when he tried to get away from it, it still follows him throughout the story
it's grimier and captures the grimness of the criminal underworld better
also better attention to detail
Replayed both a couple months back and 4 is so much worse its not even funny
I get that zoomers started sucking it off after a youtuber made a video about it but still just embarrassing
The only thing 4 has going for it is the physics which they made so at least somthing about the game would be "good"
GTA 4 is a grimdark muh realism tech demo. Even people at the time knew this and understood how different it was from San Andreas. With GTA 5, they took in the criticism and combined San Andreas and GTA 4 and turned it into the ideal crowd-pleased super game.
I loved the atmosphere. Driving through LC on an overcast day with light rain as you listen to The Journey on the radio is kino.
Reminder
>Game map is one small city and 2 towns, the rest is mountains.
>Physics considerably worse than the game that came before it.
>No interiors besides safehouse and Ammunation
>Shitty missions such as Crane operator, yoga, apple offices, any mission involving Michael's kids
>Terminator cops with ridiculous accuracy so police battles are usually short
>Removed crouch feature
>Restrictive linear missions that fail if you try to be creative
>Unlikeable characters
>Forgettable villains
>3 protagonists
>So many guns that they all feel the same
>GTA Online
Just to name a few
>soipranos
KEK pretty much tells me everything there is to know about 4cucks
go back and stop embarrassing yourself
>soipranos
LOL way to out yourself as underaged
lurk more and stop embarrassing yourself
>zoomer thinks watching the most overrated show of all time makes him special
like i said go back and stop embarrassing yourself
>Zoomer thinks he knows what soi means
Just please lurk a few more years and stop embarrassing yourself
>n-no you
i accept your concession redditcuck
try watching better shows so you don't embarrass yourself again
>gets embarrassed when he's called out for being new
Lmao
Just lurk more so you don't embarrass yourself again.
What are the similarities between GTAIV and the Sopranos? Hard mode, don't point up shallow stuff like easter egg locations.
There's nothing to do in 5
>start up gta 4
>laugh uncontrollably for 10min straight
>go back to playing a better game aka. gta v
feels good
The biggest thing I missed in 5 was an actual free roam multiplayer.
GTA 2> GTA 3
Better story and gameplay, it's really that simple.
Neither of these things are true though?
