no ?
although i do admit i found the game much harder if you play as a strength build to the point that i thought gargoyles , mohg and malenia were bullshit without jump attack spam
now with colossal weapon multiple speed buffs ? not so much
But I didn't, played DS1 -> DS2 -> ER -> DS3 in that order. And DS3 felt really easy after ER. First tried the Dancer, Pontiff in two tries, first tried friede's last phase without knowing she had one. Soul of Cinder took me 20 minutes tho
ds2 was by far the hardest for me
stamina management was a thing , both attacks and rolls use more stamina overall
combat was more slow paced , you need to pay attention to you weapon recovery window in order not to get hit mid animation
in ds3 i could spam multiple r1 with an UGS and drain most bosses health bars in seconds
I went DS3->BB->DS1r->Sekiro->ER. Had a hard time with DS3, had an extremely easy time with BB and DS1r, Sekiro was challenging, ER felt bullshit at times, easy at other times. Really I think as your first souls game will probably always be the hardest and then after that you sort of just get how to play them all.
Bosses are reactive and fast. The definition of hard for Souls boomers is the Taurus Demon, and like half of the basic enemies in Elden Ring are more complex
They have addressed the spammy nature of BB and DS3 and in ER they slowed bosses on average from DS3 to ER by 25%, though the player is also slower as the roll animation has 15 extra recovery frames.
ER is about the middleground between DS2 and DS3 in terms of speed with only very light 30% weight builds being close to DS3's rollspeed.
This is why ER bosses tend to rely on delayed attacked instead of spin2win combos like Pontiff or Abyss Watcher had.
They're still slower than DS3's Pontiff, Abyss Watchers and Champ Gundyr and even Oceiros (with his BS instant dash) because the player simply isn't scaled for those speeds.
Mergot, Malenia and Revenanys have fast attacks and multi hit combos, but they all behind a huge wind ups while DS3 had much smaller wind ups.
You can easily test how much things are slower in DS3/ER by comparing rolling 5-6 times into a wall as well as swinging the same weapon classes like a claymore in these games: a DS3 claymore will do 5 full swings while an ER one does 3 in the same timeframe.
Not the anon but the only example you brought which is faster than an ER boss is Pontiff. Abyss Watchers and Gundyr don’t have long combos spammy combos anywhere near even Margit. Also the fact that ER bosses can add optional extensions to their combos based on your input which few Ds3 bosses do iirc.
>Old habits of playing cautiously and patiently
I dunno who OP meant by "Souls boomers", but no one who played more than just one playthrough of one Souls game would be cautious and patient. Especially if he played DS3
Yeah, the whole "muh meticulous deliberate gameplay" is such a strange cope. I beat Dark Souls, Dark Souls 2 and Demon Souls like everyone else, aggression and exploiting openings. It just took longer
It's crazy how much of a difference learning the game makes. I slowly crept through every area in DS1 on my playthrough, with almost every enemy basically being a miniboss enoc**ter
Then by the end of the game I got so used to just circlestrafing and exploiting openings that when I played DS2, I beat like half the bosses first try
Then I replayed DS1 and it turned out you can just run through the Depths and Blighttown in 5 minutes flat
God I love this series bros
A lot of people played DeS/DS1 when they were clueless and played by blocking and attacking nearly every enemy, playing it like a melee based survival horror game.
This is why bosses were seen as being "hard as frick", the blocking + R1 mash strategy doesn't work on them due to them having hard hitting attacks that either break your guard, pancake you to the floor as well as enough HP and poise to not care about R1 spam.
To be fair, a medium shield works wonder in Demon Souls
t. Beat Flamelurker and Allant 1st try by blocking them with a shield, and strafing and attacking during recovery
>and poise to not care about R1 spam.
Absolute horseshit take. Most strength builds beat the game by putting on heavy armor then jumping r2-ing the bosses in their faces as they attack them, then running away to heal, then repeat. Have you even seen what people post here?
>It's crazy how much of a difference learning the game makes. I slowly crept through every area in DS1 on my playthrough, with almost every enemy basically being a miniboss enoc**ter

You can get that feeling back by doing SL1 runs or "start as X class and never level" runs, it really forces you to barely scrape with every encounter.

Absolute bollocks. Nowadays I run past almost every enemy, being SL1 wouldn't change that. Nor would it change immediately getting Power Within. Still can't believe how hard I (and everyone else) slept on that thing on the first playthrough.

This. I've been fighting 1 or 2 of each enemy and walking past the rest since DS2. Anybody repeatedly fighting the enemies over and over is just plain stupid.
First time I played DS1 I legitimately put the game down for a week when I reached Blighttown because of the oppressive atmosphere
Nowadays it's just "lol there's that color filter"
Slim PS4 gay here. Runs about as well as Sekiro/DS3. 30fps for the most part, sometimes it will crap out and have major fps drops against particle heavy enemies like Glintstone Dragons. And if you see flying enemies like bats in the distance they will be flapping their wings at lile 5fps, but will be running fine when you're within engage distance
I don't think it's the "souls boomers" that are getting filtered, ER has way more sales than any of the souls games so there are tons of whining casuals that never touched a souls game.
To be fair in DS1 you could also equip Havel Armor + some busted weapon like BK Halberd and never have to worry about enemy attacks again, because at that point you take no damage and can heal through everything
This btw is also the reason shitters cry so much about poise, their easy mode is gone
the people getting filtered are broccoli haired noobs who have never played from games in the past but fell for the hype around er. ancient 30 yo boomers like me who have played from games in the past have no trouble with er.
ER cheese isn't even 10% comparable to DS1 easymode poise+BKH or poise+pyro cheese.
In DS1 you can 3-4 shot bosses with pyros like combustion/black flame while facetank them and chug with Havel armor even at SL20.
ER has a bunch of cheese that makes bosses far easier, but without stacking a bunch of buffs + RTSR talisman and using some meme 60STR colosal hammer build you don't be beating endgame optional bosses in 20 seconds like DS1.
Not at all, in DS1 you can completely ignore the evasion aspect of the game by equipping some gear and facetank anything and chug after 2-3 hits when you're at half HP.
ER's cheese never gets to that level, even with the best gear and best build for each main boss, From wanted a minumum level of skill, evasion and attack timing, even for pure mage builds.
That's why DS3 and ER made spell casing cost stamina compared to DS1 where you could just spam 5+ great soul arrows and still have a full stamina bar for rolling and blocking.
I never said any of the games was hard. As a matter of fact, I always said that DS1 simply required a bit of patience and the "muh Souls difficulty" meme started because of morons who tried to play it like God of War and got BTFO when trying to spam attacks
Reminder that DS1 "veterans" like ENB called DS3's Lothric Knights "extremely unfair bullshit" because they spam shield bashes if you try to strafe to their right to backstab them.
I’m not some autistic homosexual who needs to save and post videos to prove a point about a game. Play ER or just a watch a video somewhere else, you can absolutely circle strafe enemies or cheese them in ways arguably worse than Ds1, like:
>rivers of blood >hoarfrost stomp >moonveil >flame of redmanes >prelate’s charge >lion’s claw >spinning weapon >storm stomp >jump r2 or jump l2 in general >spirit ashes which can hold aggro while you spam all of this >being a sorcerer is also still op
You’re not entirely wrong to say magic, pyro, and bkh + poise is extremely cheesy in DS1 but ER cheese still trivializes the game. Your character moves during spell casts, your evasion is considerably faster, you can lock on from much further away, access to poisoning, rot affliction, and sleep materials are also very widespread. That’s all to say, cheese is still overwhelmingly accessible in ER and is likely more commonly used than in DS1 considering the nature of the bosses and enemies this time around.

All that is true, and it's also true that ER enemies are faster, stronger and way more reactive than DS1.

Yes, they were also strong in both PvE and PvP because they DPS was simply ridiculous.
The fact that they were not buffed back after they separated PvE and PvE damages clearly shows they don't want people to dab over endgame bosses with their eyes closed like DS1.
ER was my first souls game (loved it) and I'm almost done with DS3 now.
It's really hard to rate them but overall DS3 is a better game because the bosses and weapons/movesets are better and those two things are the core part of the game.
I now understand why people were complaining about weapon balance, bosses being too spastic and enemies reading player inputs way too much.
ER has the same move sets on weapon classes as DS3 but they gave them a unique 4 hit combo that ends in a slower hard hitting slam because DS3's had a infinitely repeating 2 hit combo that lead to a lot of R1 spam till you were out of stamina and generally brainless button mashing.
That is blatantly false. Some particular weapons in their subclasses also have different movesets. An example is thr Naginata, classed as a spear but with a number of sweeping moves, and the Meteoric Ore Katana that has a unique R2
Some niche classes in both games like Scythes have the same moves very few having a unique R2 or weapon art in DS3.
But on average ER has a ton more weapons in the same class with different moves, especially unique R2s like the Meteor blade having the only charged R2 that's basically the Ichimonji move from Sekiro.
There's also the lazuli glintstone sword that's the only SS with an charged R2 that blocks attacks while charging and does a delayed swipe.
How could bosses, a category of content that takes up something like 5% of the total playtime and that doesn't even fully utilize the games core combat mechanics, be the "core part of the game"? Use your brain.
Come on, let's be honest about it - bosses are one of the most important part of souls games, despite not taking up a lot of time.
Game can be great but if the bosses suck ass then that kind of ruins the whole experience. Also the repetitive nature of the bossfights. And I'd say that in ER bosses take up way more than just 5%.
>bosses are one of the most important part of souls games
The dumb zoomer fanbase that DS3 brought in obsessing over le ebin anime bossfights because they don't actually understand what makes these games good does not that true. Are you implying that's a bad thing?
I'd only played BB so it took my time to adjust to blocking being useful and no rally. I haven't been particularly filtered by anything in ER yet, though Margit took me more tries than I'd like to admit.
World is divided in areas.
Each area has items to be collected through exploration.
Each area has shortcuts that lead to a boss that's usually necessary to beat in order to proceed to the next area.
You collect all the items, explore everything in said area, open shortcuts, activate bonfires, all in preparation for a boss confrontation.
I played them in the following order:
BB -> DkS2 -> DkS3 -> DkS Remastered -> Sekiro -> DeS Remake -> ER
ER was the hardest by far. I played a fricking STR claymore build on launch and stubbornly stuck with it throughout the entire game. Needless to say certain bosses made me lose my mind but I didn’t give up and ultimately beat the game.

Being filtered would mean I didn't beat it.
I did beat it and I was really disappointed by it. It's on the same level as Dark Souls 2.
It's too hard for them because the enemies are too fast compared to dark souls
Because ER has far less easy modes the endgame compared to DS1 and you can't just facetank and nuke bosses even at low soul levels.

Black person opinion, immediately discarded
Sure but just because DS1 cheese is even easier doesn't make the "revolutionary" gameplay strats used by most players in ER any less moronic
