Why do we get racebent spiderman games when this original character exists and the tv show was universally liked? Their powers do effectively the same thing from a gameplay perspective and have the same downtown city setting.

Word of warning to any anons looking at this thread. DON'T READ ANY COMICS WITH THIS CHARACTER EVER.
why
They perpetuate race stereotypes and are problematic in the current era
There's a ton of videos of black people facepalming at the new spiderman game and its forced exclusivity
That isn't problematic
Isn't that the entire point of the boondocks?
Can't speak for the newer ones but I've been reading the old Milestone run of Static and I don't see the problem. It was made by black writers and there's a very sincere feel to it, and Static himself is a charming and fun character to follow.
Old school Staic fan, the new comics are dogshit and try to pander to the BLM/all cops are bad horse shit. You are right too, the old comics of Static were fun, sincere, and actually tried to tackle tough issues without pointing fingers.
Yeah. It was retarded as fuck. I don't get it. What's so hard about writing a nerdy teen with super powers?
Maybe you can enlighten me, anon. Which comics should I be reading alongside the original Static? Some stories just never seem to be continued after they're set up, and others seem to come right into the middle. I know comics love their cross-pollination but I'm not a huge comics fan to begin with so I don't know all this stuff.
As I recall, Icon, Hardware, the Shadow Cabinet, and the Blood Syndicate will all give you a better understanding of several crossover events, the state of the world, and the characters in them. I remember Blood Syncidacte especially being pretty good and having a pretty realistic depiction of what happens when a bunch of gangbangers get super powers.
Outside of those, I recall that Milestone and DC had a couple of crossover events that included Static. The first one was World's Collide (I think) and the second one that fully integrated the Milestone universe (especially Static) into DC was a Teen Titans mini series. There's also some Justice League issues where Icon and Hardware pop up as more than just cameos if you find yourself liking them. Also, I think that Milestone had a big anniversary issue like ten years ago (I think it's called Milestone Forever) that did a sort of "where are they now" thing showing what each of the big groups and characters eventually went on to do (Static hung up the suit, married Freida, became a doctor, and will only put the suit back on if people really need him). Don't waste your time reading the New 52 or 2020 reboot of static. The new 52 story might not be terrible, but Static had a perfectly good ending for his story and the 2020 reboot fucking blows. Good luck anon.
Damn, that's basically everything from early Milestone, isn't it? I mean, I was interested but I was hoping to dig in after finishing Static, but I read about to the point of Worlds Collide(I THINK that's the storyline, anyways. Static suddenly dropped in to some super sci-fi looking world and Superman and some JL guys are there.) and it's reached the point where I can't go on trying to read it in a vacuum.
Trust me anon, most comics are interconnected like this. You can't go more than three issues with a Marvel or DC storyline without someone mentioning some stupid event that you couldn't care less about. My suggestion? Start with whichever group/character interests you the most, read like five issues, and then swap over to the next group/character. It'll help you to quickly establish who you do and don't like and which stories you don't really care about.
Yeah, I already kinda knew. Got a little spoiled reading compilations and standalone stories, I think. That's usually how I consume my capeshit.
The character and his comics were made by black people.
Old Black people don't count.
Most of them have integrated into white society and therefore what they produce has been whitewashed even subconsciously.
Only Black Millenials and below count
Black millennials and below don’t care about western comics or superheroes.
you're mistaken
Yes but if they watched the show they would be exposed to problematic elements
Listened to a podcast recently where a 50 year old black guy languished at how ignorant of black history most zoomer/millenial blacks are. Like to them history didn't exist before The Chronic released.
so black people get to actually be black people with out fakecool reddit writing
Yeah and giving miles fucking nagger sneakers on his costume isn't? lol
>Mfw
Get out of here you clown
>blade, spawn, and static shock have just been collecting dust
Dunno why I thought the "times" would make them ripe for a comeback
It's not about creative and interesting black characters, it's about tearing down white ones.
Once you realize that then all media with this push becomes poison.
I really would love a modern Blade, static or Spawn game.
Yeah it’s this, pol is basically right about everything read up on it and the world suddenly makes sense
uhmm chud we need to REPLACE white superheroes
Blade is probably the coolest character in Midnight Suns.
Would love a third person stealth/shooter with Blade as the protagonist.
Your mother.
Man, they were so cool. Genuinely the times I didn't give a shit they were black or not. They were just awesome.
Infamous is basically a static shock game already. Electro powers and even his own group of bang babies.
The mid/late 90's to early 00's were chock full of blackino. I remember rushing home to catch the daily ep of Fresh Prince.
Part of what made Static work is he was a black hero with black issues. He might have been from a middle class family but the initial story goes straight for the problem of gangs and peer pressure.
The Big Bang is also probably one the most interesting plot centers in cape shit because it ties almost every villain to the event. It's basically an extension of the "destruction in the community" narrative because the perpetrators and plenty of bystanders got their lives ruined or altered for the worst from it.
On of my favorite parts is when one episode they have a flash back of the annoying narcissist chick interviewing a homeless guy before getting hit with a gas cloud.
She becomes a powerful psychic. But then episodes later the fucking homeless guy she was interviewing also became a Villain with a thematically appropriate power.
At least Blade has a new director to take the reigns and actually get it done
Because it's not about promoting black characters, but diminishing white ones
He doesn't swing. Which is the best part of the Spiderman games
Dude rides a fucking metal disc. He effectively flies on the nimbus. That would be fucking amazing through a city.
and rides power lines like the rails in Sonic Adventure, that would be fun too
He flies on any available manhole cover, which is just as good and doesn't require you to be near a building to use it.
Then there's no strategy in scaling or maneuvering through a city. Just fly bro.
>make it gliding instead of flying
>have to launch off of traffic poles and the sides of buildings to build up bursts of speed
>Their powers do effectively the same thing from a gameplay perspective
From what I remember from the TV show, vergil only has electromagnitsm. He can't do crazy shit like energy blast(not until the last episode after he gotten his powers back and were vastly upgraded). So he would be more like Cole mcgrath from infamous as he lift and manipulate shit with some gadget.
Hell, just like end game cole he could use an electric whip to cling and swing on metal posts.
you can't make game out of this guy, he has too much free motion on his lid
Superman can fly.
That would be a great point if superman had a single decent game.
Just tweak it a bit so you have to push off of powerlines/metal objects to gain height
Static is a DC character
Static's power set is very different to Miles
Static is still popular but DC isn't doing anything with him
Who cares if it's DC or Marvel when it comes to video games?
The powers are visually different but have a lot of similarities in gameplay terms. Both have flight and static's lighting attacks stunning enemies have the same gameplay effect as wrapping them up with webs to immobilize them.
Gameplay won't be precisely the same, but I'm just saying, if you want a good black super hero game using spiderman as a template, static shock is a much better option than just racebending existing characters and you can also cash in on millennial sunday morning cartoon nostalgia.
Static's power is primarily electro magnetism he wouldn't fight in the same way as Spiderman
NTA, but he could have two ways of fighting.
>close combat is street fighting mixed with lightning
>ranged combat is blasting people with lightning and throwing objects
>travel includes flying on his disk, grinding/skating on power lines, and sticking to buildings with electromagnetism
Ignoring the Miles thing- why the fuck does Spider Man 2 have a PARRY. Who thought this was a good idea.
He's fucking Spiderman, he should DODGE.
Soulsfags told you their shitty input reading gameplay wasn't going to poison the entire industry
And you believed them
Don't call it a grave, it's the future you choose.
Modern writers are unable to utilize a character with a minority background without stories laced with big flashing neon signs that they are a minority. I don't want Static Shock back in the frontlines for that reason, his show had a good run and people still remember it.
this
I loved Cole Train in Gears of War being an unapologetically black jock like Terry Crews that was fun to have around
Augustus Cole now would be some unimposing buck with another le combover dreadlocs haircut who acts like a nerdy white guy to avoid being stereotypical
>some unimposing buck with another le combover dreadlocs haircut who acts like a nerdy white guy to avoid being stereotypical
>to avoid being stereotypical
uh anon...that archetype exists BECAUSE it is stereotypical we were just invisible because no one gives a fuck about black nerds. If it wasn't for asian men we'd be the white men of minorities. Some say we are anyways.
There's a narrative to push and they're control freak pieces of shit who think other people can't handle making media. At worst their worst they're malicious assholes and at best they're incompetent retards who think they're helping people. I hate that people have this idea of liberals being good people. Not all of them are good people and even if they were, meaning well doesn't mean shit. You don't get a pass for fucking up and harming people because you mean't well. What are they Lenny from Of Mice and Men. Dangerous retards.
Didn't the 2020 reboot by the original creator change his origin to an accident at a Black Lives Matter rally, and make a lot of his villains asshole cops?
>by the original creator
The actual writers behind the old Static comics are dead.
Shit, that makes it even more tragic. I guess my friend must've meant Milestone comics when he told me the new run was by the original creator
He has a GBA game I think. So you could try that out.
>We could've had Infamous Second Son: Black Edition
Fuck this world. Miles fucking sucks.
Using original characters who are already black defeats the whole purpose of what these big corporations are actually trying to do.
The racial iconoclasm is the point
Spooderman is about 70x more recognizable than static shock.
so the answer it too have blacks coat tail off of white heroes?
That's the answer when Marvel and DC are in the shitter and have to turn to bait like that in order to get sales, yes.
People will watch it if it's good.
>No Static game
>No Static movie
How have we fucked up as a society this much
The israelites FEARED this.
SOOPUH HERO
STATIC SHOCK
WOOP WOOP
Doesn’t static exist in copyright limbo
DC can’t use him without shelling out money, so he’s only ever a side character
Milestone media is owned by DC there is no limbo.
Maybe it has something to do with royalties.
There is no royalty issue either, Dwayne McDuffie had no children and I'm pretty sure his half-brother, Keegan Key from that Comedy Central Show, doesn't care.
Maybe, I think he’s cooler than bloody Miles Morales. What a lame character.
This is kind of off topic but also on topic...
Has peter parker always been depicted as a bitch nigga? I don't remember much about the cartoon back then, but I remember disliking peter parker in the 2nd movie made in the 2000s because I saw him cry so much.
He was a nerd initially, but no.
Peter started off as your typical 70's geek character that bordered on being an incel due to being ostracised and bullied, getting powers and watching his uncle die sets him on the right path but he still had to deal with the stresses of life like college, watching more people you love dying in front of you, getting a job etc. The idea was that he'd mature as his readers did because he was meant to be the ultimate relatable local hero.
To modern writers this translates into misery porn.
>Has peter parker always been depicted as a bitch nigga?
He's israelite coded, so yes.
To go into what anon was saying, getting powers was a huge transformation for Peter. It made him go from weak and timid to strong and confident. The effect was almost immediate as he quickly went on a bit of a power trip and used the power for personal gain. It was when his inaction in selfishness that got his uncle killed that he turned around into a hero, but he still retained a level of confidence when he wasn't suffering from the latest tragedy his writers had in store for him.
For a second I thought he had Tampa Bay Lightning logo on the shirt
Because "Kill off all white heroes" is a part of the plan despite most of capeshit being written by israelites.
>GOTTA GET UP GOTTA GO GET UP
>GOTTA BE BE GOTTA BE SUPERHERO
>SUPA HEROOO STATIC SHOCK WOOP WOOP
You must choose one Ganker.
The original theme is my favorite because nostalgia for watching the show as a kid, but watching the entire show recently and hearing Lil Romeo doing the last theme song made me laugh so hard and I'll admit that one's probably my second favorite (since it has actual lyrics unlike the first two)
I like theme 2
Man, i know this isn't Ganker, and maybe i'm just nostalgic, but I can't get over how DC had such an awesome Animated Universe and then made those piece of crap live action movies. I wish they would just continue with the cartoons
It's weird how Marvel and DC's animated and cinematic experiences have essentially flipped over the past two decades.
He's one of the greats
Because Spider-Man is the most popular superhero in the world. That's literally it.
there are like a million different Spider-man, so only one black is too little
Why do people pretend they actually watched this cartoon as a kid and it's so le heckin deep? It's boring as fuck muh poor naggers shit.
Spider-verse seems to be the least shit portrayal of Miles... They should drop the Insomniac universe.
