Why does?

Why does Ganker like this. It's handholdy, generic and over the top.

You're right. It should be more like The Last of Us. Who needs fun in video games, anyways?

Despite using 3 adjectives none of them have meaning because you didn't elaborate on any point you attempted to make

I just picked up the game and I'm having fun.
    >Western styled RPG that lets me fight giant monsters with dynamic and fast combat
Most JRPGS don't do it for me and western RPGS often struggle with combat (Skyrim, gothic, etc) or lack the fantasy setting I enjoy (dishonored, fallout, etc)
The pawn system is interesting even if it has flaws, the mechanics work well enough. I appreciate the details like enemies having breakable parts, reacting to different damages or elements

I played it. For some 3 hours. I don't like obvious shit tips being shoved in my face. I don't like moronic pawns talking stupid shit. The combat is over the top and anime. The world makes no sense and feels to gamey.
It's typical ARPG shit that doesn't care for worldbuilding and making a good narrative,

it's fun but clearly flawed. Unfinished, not enough enemy variation, the world is too small and static with no sandboxy elements like other open world games released around the same time like TES.

I've beat the game a couple times and still haven't touched the expansion area beyond the start of it because by the time I've beat the main game storyline I'm just bored of it. With that said, almost all the issues boil down to the development time being severely cut, so I still have high hopes for the sequel.

the expansion turns it into a dungeon crawler with some randomization instead of a story quest you're going through. the expansion is amazing if you like the gameplay and want to just keep playing, like me. The gameplay is so solid for me and I enjoy it so much I can run through BBI for hundreds of hours just for the combat

Basically at the time I was CRAVING a classic style Dungeon and Dragon's medieval fantasy but with fun action game combat and literally every western role playing game was failing me HARD. Dragon Age 2 not only had weird shitty edgy designs but the gameplay was total ASS. Dragon's Dogma stepped up and it was everything I could've ever wanted out the Dragon Age or Skyrim or any other WRPG that tried but failed at it's combat. I played it for hours and it never needed to be anything more than a generic fantasy romp where you kill giant monsters...
And then I got to the end and it absolutely went from being generic to exceeding my expectations and blowing my goddamn mind
Basically this game cater to me but also went above and beyond what was expected of it, I fricking kneel Itsuno

    >restart the game again on hard again
    >mystic knight is very funny
    >got to level 50 in 10 hours rather than 30
Why did I choose assassin it's like a paper bag, mystic knight makes me want to do a blue run or a magick archer.

I played a Mystic Knight on my PS3 version of DD:DA way back when and remember getting pwned in BBI. Made a Magick Archer later on PC replay and absolutely shit all over BBI. That’s one fun ass build.

mystik knight is my favorite but assassin is unironically OP. They have an infinite duration counter attack that counters everything in the game. literally everything, even ranged attacks and projectiles, and it gives you I-frames during it so you take no damage, and it's infinite duration. you can activate the counter attack and put your controller down until you're attacked.

The enemies take way too long to kill, even with fully upgraded weapons. When I knew I was getting near the end I was just running by everything because the fights last 10+ minutes and it wears you down and feels like padding

you were underleveled/under geared. the way combat works in this game, if your attack is below their defense you do 1 damage every hit. the difference between a high level character with good gear vs an underlevel character with bad gears attack is in the hundreds, something as simple as getting a new sword will be the difference between doing 1 damage per attack or doing 500 damage per attack. I can tell just from reading this you were under geared and doing 1 damage per attack on everything where you were

So I should check this game out then. I see it posted everywhere but the boxart looked like it was just a run of the mill "fantasy" RPG, but I think I'll actually look into it. Is this on PC?

Most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. DD is insanely unique which is part of the problem. DD fans desperately wish there were more games like it but there aren't

It's a vanilla fantasy setting that doesn't undermine its serious elements with self-referential humor about how weird it is, nor does it overcompensate its fantastical elements with extreme GoT-esque grittiness to make you take it seriously. This is surprisingly rare in modern media, and especially Western-made fantasy.
    >over the top.
Many fun combat systems are at least a little over the top. Considering this was made by DMC5's director, it's downright restrained by comparison.

I don't know how you did it but you absolutely nailed that explanation of why I like Dragon's Dogma so much
