The licensed music was what helped shape the game. The ending song by Zwan was said to be on loop while the director wrote/designed the game. The only reason there's non-licensed versions is because footage with it on will get shit ripped off Twitch & Youtube. Not having major moments shown online like that is not good for marketing.

Honestly, my biggest complaints with this game's visuals are the dialog portraits and the 2D cutscenes. None of the 2D cutscenes look very good aside from the one where Chai gets punched, and a lot have really weird errors (Chai flying towards the building looking terrible, the ending cutscene making Chai absurdly tall for some reason)

The only hints of homo in this entire game are one character who gets visibly flustered by both a guy and a girl— one during dialog for the guy, once during dialog with another girl (which could just as easily be interpreted as her not being used to actual compliments), and then ONE shot of her blushing near that same girl during the ending animation which was outsourced to Titmouse, a western animation studio that also fucked up the heights of literally every main character in the ending.
The artstyle also generally looks great.

Immersive sim makes perfect sense if you go by the definition that was on Looking Glass' website in the 90s. Its only nebulousness comes from people misunderstanding it as "you can do a lot of things" and erroneously applying it to games like TES, Hitman or MGS5 which only have some vague overlap with them in certain areas. I've never understood why it was supposedly such a hard term to understand, even when I was a kid and hadn't heard of it before calling Deus Ex "just" an RPG never felt right.

I'm usually not one for those action games where parries are more important than attacks but given the rhythm aspect of this game I think they fit in pretty well, although it also makes them pretty lenient (pressing parry on every beat makes you functionally invincible to most things). If anything the samurai enemies having an attack string that lands on offbeats is something the game needed more of; besides that the only times you'd need to parry off of the beat are Kale's Phase 3 lightning and flamethrowers that you mash parry on for each hit.

Pretty sure everyone liked it even outside the GATO SEXO memery. Solid game by Tango, reasonably priced, and without a lot of bullshit. I really enjoyed playing it but I need to go back, my backlog is way too long to begin with.
If I'm correct, there is a serious NG+ mode which has special doors that can only be unlocked then, which gives way to new lore and new features wso that's nice that it isn't just "original game but harder". They've also been updating it with free content patches including some custom modes and stuff with unlockables which is neat, but I wonder if they'll have any expansions or continue to add content. Its not a game without criticism (I mean, I kinda do wish they would have multiple weapons for Chai but they kinda get around this with the friend call ins) but its really solid, reasonably priced, single player campaign, unique , from a JP dev that knows their shit generally and delivers again.
It's not so much a mode as you go through the levels again and go into the doors which act as Secret Missions, then doing them all unlocks a new small hub area with several more of the doors that have more challenges, and then by doing them all you get a secret ending. That and the not-Bloody Palace were the only post-game outside of filling out the mural and filling out galleries. The July update added a mini-Bloody Palace that increases the BPM up to double what most of the base game uses over time and a Roguelite mode, with new unlockables attached to them. I think it's enough to play around with but the way the main campaign is structured means I haven't gone back to replay start to finish since it's kind of slow paced in some segments when you know where it's going, especially the middle portion where your only boss fight is Korsica (which is underrated as fuck but still not the same type of boss as the others).

Actually maybe a 3rd reason is that it absolutely blew Forspoken the fuck out and made "fans" of that game mad too, but I refuse to believe the people going to bat for Forspoken were being genuine.

The game was shadowdropped and was getting like 100+ threads the same day and for several days afterwards, was pretty easy to tell it was shilled at that point dumbass.
Trying to write it off as "easily triggered morons" just makes you look like even more of a gay with that spacing. A "sudden surge of discussion" does not happen organically at the scale of big releases like Elden Ring when no one even knew the game existed mere hours prior.
There's other aspects to it too, it being shadowdropped was one of them but it was also because it's a tango gameworks game, there's a lot of the evil within fans so if course there would be discussions among tango gameworks fans.
It was also a gamepass day one game AND an Xbox console exclusive so there was a lot of buzz around that too

Snoys panicked when it dropped out of nowhere and obliterated Forspoken. They are trying to flaseflag it since then. Just look at how assblasted they are about Starfield and that is not even a perfect game.
Hi-Fi Rush is the only example of pure, unfilted Onions-Soul I can think of. You have your typical corporate approved characters like that big wholesome chungus guy or le strong woman that got the spoight stolen from her by some incompetent man. Just thinking about these characters/stories makes me want to fall asleep. Also most of the "funny" dialogue with a new epic quip every 10 seconds just sucked. On the other hand however, you can tell that the developers had a vision for this title (the whole music theme) and went above and beyond with that. Hi-Fi Rush is so full of attention to detail that it stands out on that merit alone. It's also pretty fun as a video game - not as a saturday morning cartoon, not as an "experience", but as a fun video game. Nothing groundbreaking, but a fun ride from beginning to end. Finally, it has its funny moments too. That slow mo cutscene where the main character hits his head was pretty good.
Overall, reeks a bit of onions but has a lot of heart and fun if you can look beyond that. 7,5/10 (which is almost GOTY-tier in current year).
