why does it seem like fantasy fans take out all the fun stuff of fantasy (Weird worlds, magic and shit) and just want to play early medieval stuff instead with stereotypical characters?

Because (the worst) nerds have no imagination and can only think of things in utilitarian, "realistic" senses. It's why most milsim dorks have the visual sensibilities of a can of energy drink

Because once they reach their early adulthood, they get this weird idea that low fantasy humans only is "mature" and for the "big boys" and all that dragons and wizards and gods thing is for kinds. So they jerk off all that muddy-gritty Game of Thrones stuff and shit on high fantasy. Sooner or later, you grow out of that phase and come to enjoy whatever fantasy you want, be it low, high, middle and everything in between. Unfortunately, some are stuck. One new ones are always set to follow into that particular age bracket.

Have you thought that maybe the muddy grimdark shit people like around here is a reactionary movement because of 5E and pathfinder?

Low fantasy is the setting equivalent of A24/oscar bait films pretentious twats have latched on to in order to try and appear more mature, and that in reality isn't actually very interesting or fun to play in most of the time.

It's one of those things where no matter how much you cry and fling shit and lie, as long as somebody actually plays games they will know that

Gonna let you in on a secret here: Fantasy fans *want* that weird higher fantasy bullshit in their games - but they want it introduced *gently* and *intelligently*. Let me find peace with the notion of Wizards and Dragons before we go into the high concept multiversal plane hopping bullshit.

Best way i ever introduced a party to a higher concept was by having them shanghai'd onto a spelljammer ship which had docked overnight in a sleepy fishing village and was pressganging adventurous types into service. They were promised wealth and riches, got onboard, and were forced into monotonous service. Eventually they led a mutiny and overtook the ship but that's back in the AD&D days and i don't remember all the details anymore.

O just hate starting a level 1 fantasy game with people who use OP homebrew shit like "my character has FOUR half-templates because it makes sense!" Or "My character has only a +20 to hit at level 1 because of his race, he ISNT broken."

Because see the more, for want of a term, fairy tale, aspects of this all and would sooner drain all the charm and magic, all the mystical fantasy and insist on things that are grounded and realistic all in an effort to seek approval from people whose approval doesn't matter.

Most morons think "fantasy" only refers to pseudo-medieval games and settings. In a society that doesn't care about what things actually are, in favor of how they - F E E L -, nobody gives a shit about the meanings of words, nor do they about trying anything other than the gray sludge pumped out by their favorite corporations.

Extreme emphasis on the pseudo, though. Nothing about a typical (especially 5e) D&D setting is particularly medieval except the weapons and armor (and barely even then).
