Every game is woke nowadays, I would rather play a fun woke game than a boring based game.

It's basically the "pack-in game" for the PS4, they shifted a lot of units that way
    >But it probably sold a lot of copies too
Yeah sure, I bought a copy because it quickly became fairly cheap and was an exclusive game with cool looking robots. Still haven't played it because I put my PS4 in storage shortly after buying it while I moved country. But I still count as a sale and I assume most people who bought it wanted a PS4 exclusive with cool looking robots.

Lack of games on the system. I bought it and have never played it. Guerilla have a reputation for impressive graphics, I didn't like the look of Shadowfall though, higher res disgusts me, it's multiplayer was also nothing special where Killzone 2's is some of the best ever. At least lag was down. It's not a very playable game even on PS4pro, but the pro has the same CPU so double the gpu doesn't do much. 2 cores of the CPU were locked out, eventually just one I think, anyway CPU was stressed. Boost mode just lets games use the higher CPU clocks.

TLDR: PS4pro isn't a significant upgrade. PS5 would be but not all games can unlock framerates. Unlocking framerate isn't much of a benefit either if vsync is still enforced, you'd still be stuck with the same input lag.

TLDR 2: I thought it was an exclusive.

Picking your own direction does it for me. As long as there's things to see. Though that should be factored in and progression based on that, working with that. Going from one point to another via directions seems like a chore.

I like that feeling of finding out the world for myself. Being in places I guess I shouldn't be, either ahead, or dangerous.

That could work if assets were placed wherever you go and stuff generated so you can head in whatever direction you want and find stuff, head several times longer in one direction or a snake whatever, before hitting the end of the world. After hitting the end of the world it feels over for me.

Maybe the world should try to get you lost. Knowing where to go like a treat, assured of finding something more interesting than usual.

I find it fricking crazy hilarious how many people are saying "I bought it but never played it" because I literally bought it like last month on a key site and haven't been able to bring myself to play it. lmao

    Open world game done right:

Whole civ thinks the end of the world makes them invalid and that it's close.

Not straying entitles you to more pay, more equipment.
You have to try to hide where you have been during conversation, everyone always trying to pry. Some at some stage and through hints on both sides forge secret alliances to futher the connection between one place and another or exploit the local's ignorance.

Heading in one direction DOES turn you around, transport you elsewhere, makes a map worthless, struggling out of it to somewhere familiar is a battle and you are relieved for some consistency and distance from danger.

How is that implemented in the gameplay?

You need pay/food & water, to survive. Civ controls both.
You get reasons to venture out, eg people get lost or rejected, banished, which is the equivalent of murdered. And or come to know that resources are diminishing and new sources needed, or that the end world is closing in.
Or you're lured out. Made a scapegoat and escape. Not contented to have your life rationed. A love interest demands more than you can provide.

What would work for you? What would get you to leave paradise when the supposed only alternative is hell, void, chaos etc?

I don't get what he's saying either but he's right about open world done right part. Few examples
        >World is extremely small despite huge cliffs and mountains making it seem big, it's half the size of Skyrim which is small in modern open worlds
        >Best way of transportation is running because of that, mounts aren't that good to control too
        >Lack of collectibes/open world traps, it has like 5 ubisoft towers not 50, it has like 30 collectibles not 200, collectibles also requires some kind of combat or climbing to get rather than just walking
        >Aloy is faster and more agile than usual open world game protagonist, especially true for FW, almost feels like Nier Automata
        >Side content is mostly good, outside of Far Cry outposts they are either combat or basic climbing puzzles, Cauldrons are both fun and they are long despite being side content
        >Resource gathering aspect makes you explore every single ruin because you know you will find better loot in old world ruins than a random pack of roaming enemies
        >Enemies aren't just roaming the map mindlessly they have their own ''ecosystem'', shell walkers are carrying supplies and they are protected by other enemies, scavengers are in digging sites scavenging metals, grazers are grazing soil while being protected by a bigger machine, it feels alive compared to many other world games with mindless enemy placements
        etc.

I would like to say that I love the overworld map for this game. More games should show you a top down view of the map, including the topography and ground/foliage/rocks/etc. I don't play that many open world modern games so maybe they do, but I love how Horizon Zero Dawn handles it. Also I like how they hide the unexplored areas of the map with clouds and unhide the clouds if you've explored that area. No 'you don't have a map for this region, sucks to be you', no they show you the areas you've seen/explored if not uncovered by the giraffe robot (which is helpful in a game about exploring).

Nothing. Don't trust paid shills, I got this game for like $20 from a friend when I had nothing to play, and I finished it because I, indeed had nothing to play. I despise it, I feel like I wasted time, it was boring, don't know how you can make such a boring game when you have robot dinosaurs.

They literally gave it away for free and bundled it with anything and everything they could. They were trying to force it as a new Sony staple franchise.
