why does steam take literally 30 seconds just to boot up the login window?
>press windows key
>search steam
>press enter
>start menu stalls for 5-10 seconds
>finally start menu closes
>another 20 seconds of nothing
>login window finally appears
it's been the same on every (windows) PC i've owned for the last few years so i know it's not hardware-related. the same delay happens when switching accounts. what is the cause of this?

it takes 5 seconds to launch steam on my laptop.
you have shit hardware or your operating system is working properly

      my hardware:
      Ryzen 9 5900
      Nvidia 3070

      lol @ HDDlets

      1TB SSD

i've also had the same issue on 3 different PCs. if i'm the only one experiencing this im going to become schizo. does steam boot faster when you auto-login? if so, why then is there a delay otherwise?

how many games you have on steam?
your windows might needs to be re-installed or your SDD is dying

          59 total games, 14 installed.
everything else works great on my PC, including the games. EA app works fast as you would expect, so do other game launchers. i reinstalled windows 10 recently because i didnt like 11.

You can do the autologin or stay logged in.

Dont know why it takes long for you
I'm auto signed in, you can make steam startup with windows.

i have two accounts so i like the option of logging in to one or the other

Do you have any games installed on hdd? No idea if the log in window alone would read any game data from hdd. Probably not.
Anyway takes me around 4 seconds to launch steam and become usable with autologin. Too lazy to disable that to see if somehow log in window appearing would take longer than to sign in, connect to something and open up.

i only use the 1TB SSD in the PC. i just tested it myself. auto-login is faster, within a few seconds, but the start menu still stalls for about 10 seconds after pressing enter. if i don't use auto-login, i have to wait another 20-30 seconds after that. why is steam like this?

I don't know. Maybe your internet is slow, maybe you're trolling, maybe there's something wrong with your computer. Who knows. Went ahead and logged out out of curiosity. Took dunno 3 seconds for the log in window to appear after launching.

one account has games i play casually with friends and i use the steam social media elements. my other account has singleplayer games i put in thousands of hours into and don't want that embarrassment shitting up my recent activity.

you're not the only one. Steam takes a long fricking time to start no matter what. I would bet all the people who think it's fast are the ones who have it enabled on startup and it's already running in the background when they go to use it

Even if you're already logged in on startup it's slow as shit. I was legit surprised by how fast games would boot up from the Xbox app back when I first tried out Game Pass. I don't know anything about the Steam app's internals but I would bet money that it could be massively improved and Valve is just too fricking lazy to fix it

I just clicked steam and started counting and reached 4 seconds before it was ready and useable. Sounds like a skill issue.

Actually wait it had an update too. I did it again after the update and it only took 3 seconds this time. Massive skill issue.

i hate that new login screen but it's been like that for years, there's always been an updating steam message and then just a short bit of a "logging in as" screen

yeah steam is extremely slow to start up initially, and it has been getting worse. disregard the dumb frick morons ESLs who are telling you its fast, they think that maximizing is the same thing as opening
