Perfect gameplay with endless replay value, and a story that's more than serviceable and definitely memorable.

What's endlessly replayable about MGS3? Genuinely curious.

        >more open level design, increasing choices you can make
        >decent weapon arsenal
        >fun to master bosses
        >great for challenge runs (no tranq, ghost runs, no camo etc.)
        >tons of interaction possibilities with the enemies (this is the key point)
        For me at least.

Fpbp. It really is the best one
      >mgs1 has not aged well gameplay wise, gameplay feels like crap compared to all later entries
      >mgs2 is a close tie, but overall has less interesting gameplay, less variety when it comes to environments
      >mgs4 actual gameplay is good but there isnt enough of it, basically only the first 2 acts even have good stealth gameplay with interesting enemies (human enemies are much better than those geckos and dwarf geckos)
      >peacewalker is just goofy and the levels aren't great
      >mgsv gameplay is also great, but mgs3 wins for level design and story. Mgs3 also has a lot of smaller details which make it better than 5 imo, like being able to utilize snakes which you captured to distract enemies as an example. Also mgsv is much better when you disable reflex mode imo, that shit makes it way too easy

    >entire Shagohod/bike chase/escort sections are hot dogshit
    >can tranq nearly every guard in the game from long grass 100m away
MGS3 is a fantastic game but it's nowhere near perfect

      >slot simulator
There is no luck involved in it, just tedious menu usage.
      >doesn't impact anything whatsoever
      >recharging stamina
      >recharging batteries
      >using animals as a distraction
      >using venomous animals to kill guards without actually increasing your kill count
It's not super expansive but the system has some cool features.
      >one of the worst bosses in the series
The Pain is fine, better than the Fear anyway.
      >Shagohod/bike chase/escort sections
I liked the escort section, don't care for the other two. On rail segments suck in general.
      >can tranq nearly every guard in the game
It's a problem in any MGS game but Euro Extreme kinda fixes it, with lower ammo count and higher silencer usage.

    it's the best standalone MGS.
MGS2 is more memorable to me, but 3 has it beat in gameplay and has a story that's enjoyable for people invested in the series, people who are new to the series and people who just want their funny sneak n shoot james bond game with ebin memes.

You can tranq a guy in the dick and it's an instant knockout like a headshot. Same applies to 2 and the games after 3. For something exclusive to 3, I like rolling into starving guards, causing an instant knock out as they ragdoll into the air.

Any hopes for inevitable MGS3 remake by Virtuos?
I hope they keep the music and cutscene direction from the original game, like in the pachinko remake.
As for gameplay, I hope they expand it. MGS3 specifically has a lot potential for gameplay, from level design to level structure, more meaningful survival stuff, features that were intended to be in game be cut and such.

The setting and characters are so fricking absurdly good in a way that I have never seen in any other game

I love everything about Snake, Ocelot, Eva, The Boss. Volgin and other villains fulfill their roles perfectly.

The whole cold war espionage thing is brilliantly executed

The cutscenes are so good. The dialogue is mindblowing. It's my favorite game by far.

      >The dialogue is mindblowing.
      Do people unironically believe that?

        Anonymous

Yes I unironically believe that. People act as if MGS3's dialogue is nothing special but the only other games that do stuff at the same level are made by the same handful of people (DMC, Bayonetta)

MGS3 dialogues are really nothing special.

Also I believe that DMC3 dialogues are fantastic as well, perfect for video game.

Once you've replayed MGS3 10 times you start seeing so much meaning behind every single word choice. It's like the characters are actually alive.

Because they didn't understand MGS2 and need to have everything spelled out without nuance. MGS3 is a very simple Snake's journey while MGS2 has timeless dissection of the future that actually happened 20 years after it was released.

      >dissection of the future
Kojima just said what philosophers and sociologists were saying 20 years before MGS2 was developed. I swear, brainlets take games like MGS2 and Deus Ex and go "Wow dude they were like predicting stuff" because they never touch a fricking book.

    >1
has the best overall balance of plot/cutscene and gameplay balance, but it's gameplay is a bit basic and gunplay is awful.
    >2
has decent gameplay, although aiming is still ass. it basically loredumps a majority of the plot near the end and the fact it's all on one massive oil rig makes areas feel samey.
    >3
has good gameplay, a variety of locations, it introduces an interesting camo mechanic to encourage stealth while also brushing up the gunplay. Story/gameplay balance is better but is brought down by the bosses generally being unfun gimmick fights (grenade bees, hide and seek, invisible guy who heals himself, shaggohod in general)
    >4
is pretty much 3 with a simplified camo system and much shorter levels in exchange for way too many cutscenes. It's issues become more and more noticeable the longer the game goes on which is why only the first chapter feels any good.
    >5
Best gameplay, open world maps do allow you to infiltrate the built up areas your own way instead of a pre-designed path which makes it fun to play. It has a few cutscenes that overstay their welcome but it's real problem is a lot of "missions" are just repeats of earlier ones with slight changes, heavily padded and has forces 'delays' to progress the game. Plot is a mess.

From a pure gameplay perspective 5 is best
From a story prospective, 1 is the best because of it's pacing and balance with gameplay with hints to what's going on scattered throughout the game.
3 isn't the best game in any one part, it's just solid overall which is why people say it's the best one.
