This right here. Like most open world games, it's bloated, just to say it has XXX hours of gameplay. The legacy dungeons are all pretty fricking spectacular, but there's so much filler in between that it takes you out of it. I'm still working on my first playthrough, but I can tell you, if I replay it, I'm just running right to the legacy dungeons and saying frick off to most everything else.
Elden Ring's appeal isn't the same as other Souls games is why. ER is about the joy of discovery, the wonder of 'what's over that hill!?', whereas other Souls games are more about the sense of accomplishment, adventuring forward and overcoming trials. From compensated for this by making ER a 130-150 hour game to fully explore, which is about as much time even dedicated fans of Souls games will play them over the course of a few years, but condensed down into a single run. Once you know what's over that hill, there's no joy in looking again. Once you realize the build varieties and setups, you discover 96% of the world of ER is now pointless and without reward. Selling a game on the joy of discovery works, but only the first time you play, which is why you play it once and then feel drained with no desire to re-experience it until maybe years and years later when the memories have faded.
You are correct but that applies to all games and all From games anyway. ER just made this issue more visible.
I still maintain that most people will never instantly replay a game after the first experience. After all, DS is also about mystery and discovery, just on a smaller scale.

I immediately replayed DeS, DS1, DS3, and BB multiple times. I still play them at least once per year, except for BB, I am holding out hope for a remaster.
All these answers are wrong.
Its because you can respec, making you use multiple builds in one game.
Calling ER this souless when DS2 exists is a fricking joke.
>1st playthrough: Pure Swordspear, nothing else. >2nd playthrough: Dual wielding curved great swords. >3rd playthrough: Golden Halberd, incantations. >4th playthrough: 2-hand + dual wield katanas. Low replayability my ass. People on Ganker just hate videogames
Dead pvp. >No covenants >Shit balance when invading >Limited to only 4 players with most of the times it being 3v1 invader >Broken spells and weapon arts that favour heavily the 3 gsnkers >No arena >No fightclubs (because of the same player limit) >Even in duels some weapons are too broken and it's the most boring ones >Broken buffs
The way they butchered PvP killed the longlivety of this game. They also killed previous games on pc.
I can't believe I'm missing ds3 now
Game is unironically too long for good replayability, pvp is opt in, enemies aren't worth fighting or engaging with second time around, bosses don't mesh well with the mechanics or feel as "fair" as previous entries despite not being particularly harder in a lot of instances.
Has relatively similar mechanics to 3, which makes it wear out a little faster since you're probably used to it.
Am I missing anything?
I feel like it just needed to be a little smaller scope, not a lot, with some more care and love poured into the mechanics, items and bosses than the world and levels, at least the open world parts. Could have used more time in the oven, and don't get me wrong, I like the game, I want to play more of it, but it doesn't feel like there's anything left to do.
Replayability is a meme. I dont know what kind of psycho would have the urge to play a Souls game again right after the first playthrough. That goes for most games.
It's just tedious.
The previous souls games were much more linear and short, so obviously its easier to replay. But sacrificing linearity in ER is worth it because the first playthrough experience is amazing.
I like the non linearity, but I feel like the game could have been toned down in scope and made that trade off a lot more worth it than it ended up, even though its clearly the best game in the series for me in many respects it's one of the ones I feel like I've enjoyed least and gotten the least out of, probably the game in the series I'm most disappointed in, even moreso than 2, if just because it had so much potential.
They should have worked on the side content more. Make all or most bosses unique and make the dragons differ from each other. Maybe also more classic style dungeons.
because despite it having a huge open world you see everything the game has to offer in the first 30-40 hours and the rest is fighting the same copypasted enemies in copypasted locations
It's genuinely impressive how the game has hundreds of enemies and bosses and yet they somehow managed to make it feel like as if you're fighting the same 4-5 enemies over and over throught the whole journey.
same reason BotW had zero replayability
if you recycle content on an open world map nonstop, then the player has already experienced it to death on their first playthrough
you can replay other soulsborne games and only fight a boss a single time or only go through one gauntlet of a certain enemy class or so on. You might miss some content or even a dungeon.
In elden ring you will experience every bossfight 3-5 times and every dungeon map recycled 50 times and fight 100+ of each enemy class and play each tileset to death endlessly long before you've even completed the fricking game.
Did you reach the end of Dark Souls 3 and say "oh look, THREE lesser ulcerated tree spirits!"?
count the number of times you fight the following bosses in DS3: >cursed greatwood: 1 >crystal sage: 1 >abyss watchers: 1 >sulyvahn: 1 >yhorm: 1 >aldritch: 1 >iudex: 2 >dragonslayer: 2 >oceiros: 1 >lothric: 1 >nameless king: 1 >wyvern: 1
I did 2 clean playthroughs then started a NG+. NG+ is VASTLY more enjoyable than with previous games. You can steamroll huge chunks of the map and basically just zip around anywhere from the outset without worry.
>first playthrough takes ages because most of your time is wasted on riding, killing enemies that can't fight back while riding, "exploring" aimlessly while riding, killing the same boss 10 times, gathering materials you'll never use, going through copypaste minidungeons, etc. but you tolerate it because it's the first playthrough >entire game becomes "want to replay game, but remember part xyz"
I think a lot of the appeal the first time around is just riding through the world and finding stuff. Naturally it won't be that appealing the second time around as you'd more than likely just go to where you need to go and avoid everywhere that's just filler. I also think a lot of the bosses were kind of disappointing, annoying or simply out of the way so the incentive to do boss runs is kind of killed for the average player. Lastly, I think the endings were pretty shit outside of Ranni's. If you did Ranni's questline and got her ending, there's no other ending that even remotely comes close to being as interesting so there's very little reward for playing all the way to the end again. Just my opinions tbh.
The game is suffers from open world big&empty syndrome and From basically said frick PvP
The only reason DS3 had players above 20k for years was because of PvP and they managed to frick that up too
It doesn't?
Elden Ring is the only game I actually want to replay because it has so much less annoying shit. and most of the annoying shit that is there can be skipped.
Plus more weapon variety, better looking world, unfortunately also worse bosses but that's the only downside
Elden ring has the most build variety of any Souls game yet you gay, you didn't play the game.
The only argument for it being less replayable is lack of covenants.
Because it lack solo host invasions and coopers are too cowardly to play on official servers and use the baby mod that shields them from the bad red man
>so much less longevity/replayability
Literally the opposite. Elden Ring is the most replayable FromSoft game yet, because you can vary your experience from the very beginning. Within 30 minutes, you can explore Caelid, Limgrave, Liurnia, Siofra River, and even the Altus Plateau if you know what you're doing.
I'm on my fourth playthrough of Elden Ring because progression feels different every single time.
Past Souls games had much more linear progression, which makes them so much less enjoyable to replay. I can't even bring myself to replay Dark Souls 3 any more because I know I'll always have to go through, I have every map entirely memorized, I know every boss fight and almost every encounter. If I want to experience a build, sometimes I'll have to play through 99% of the game before it's even set up.
3 is the worst offender, but the other games (save for DS2) have this problem as well, where the path you take never really changes.
Fricking long and mostly recycled/barren.
This right here. Like most open world games, it's bloated, just to say it has XXX hours of gameplay. quantity over quality
quantity has a quality all of its own anon
The American Mindset™
No soul, ironically.
The game peaks the secodn you enter Liurnia and gaze upon the Academy.
Its all downhill from there. Leyndell coudlve saved it, but its a dead, lifeless city with nothing to do.
Imagine if Leyndell wouldve been a npc hub, buzzing with people, untouched by the war. FROM are hacks.
>but its a dead, lifeless city
That's... the point...
>dude you don’t understand it’s a good thing they are all lazy hacks
It doesn't
I played it for 600 hours

Bang on, well said.

Exploration felt like a total waste of time when the reward itself is shit like a boring crafting material or an uninteresting area
>longevity
>"Long"
>"Lonn Jevity"
Dumb word.
Longlivety is a better word, I agree
Zero meaningful exploration, miyazaki really isn't good at directing games
Because you spend as much time in one complete playthrough as you would in 3 or 4 of older souls games.

Cringe, play a real PvP game genre, toddler
t. Getting his ass handed to him in any souls game and seething his years of tekken don't help him win
The combat is trash and the exploration is trash. Any souls is better.

yes, too much padding. game would have been better with a smaller map and more real content. should have been delayed

Open dead-world with nothing to do aside killing. Ending doesnt matter because you get nothing.
Bloated open world, bloated with empty fields with nothing to do on them I mean

Because with it Fromsoft proved that it was indeed possible to make a worse game than DS3

are we getting a DLC bros?
of course we are
FF7 and ER threads prove that there has to be a homosexual gene because you people make the dumbest fricking waste of threads every day.
I beat ER 4 times have a nice day.
